Yes! I started drawing back in 2019 (March) and I decided to remake a few of my art pieces, and I see how much I’ve improved and it makes me so happy to see that you really can improve, even when you don’t notice. We all have a start, we just have to make the most out of it! Art really makes me happy, and seeing improvement, including with others and with myself, makes it so much more worth it.

Aiden Flame I wouldn t worry too much about sketching if you want to start animating i would just do some simple stuff for yourself at first and then find out what looks good, i never actually sketched when i started animating :D also. When you animate something i´d be glad to see it! Small tip: if i were you i would start with something like a walking/running cycle bc those are pretty simple and it wont be an actual problem if you mess up a frame a little :)

The ones that only mock them, yes, but EVERY single one? There are people who make cringe comps that also give them tips on improving. It's actually just as rude as mocking the animators if you yell at a youtuber who makes a cringe comp saying "Haven't you seen this map?! People improve, don't mock them for being beginners!" when the person making the video is giving constructive critism so they can improve their art. That's like yelling at a teacher for telling their students the things they should improve on. People can't improve if everyone only praises their work.

ALL of them can’t be gone. Everyone needs discipline, which is the form of cringe comps, but the youtubers who do it aren’t doing it well. Most of the cringe comps include overly fangirly... Sans fangirls? Oh no wait, that’s a type of cringe comp. But really, some animators never TRY to improve. I try to improve my art, but I’m stuck at a block because of money reasons. Some animators think what they make is good enough, so they need some hard discipline to get them into shape! But uh, KZbinrs don’t give the right discipline, they only mock. Not tell why they are there. So stop poo poo pissing on cringe comps, some viewers are fucking idiots and decide to witch-hunt the people featured in cringe comps anyway, like that one Purple-Haired skeleton girl. Leave the animator alone you fucking children!

You know, It's a wonderful map and I love it but this also reminds me a sad truth that It'll be really hard for new animators to get some attention nowdays. Almost all maps are now just for profesionals and the ones that aren't might never get completed. Tho I really understand that you want your map to look good but maybe help these little guys. This comment will probably get lost but:To all popular animators out there, please make beginner friendly maps or just stop at a beginner animators channel and post some constutive critisism. Maybe If you like their work even subscribe. It'll make them feel wonderful and give them motivation to improve. So please, keep that in mind

Not to mention some people could be really good animators to begin with, or they could be great if they just had some encouragement, but just get ignored because they don’t have enough subs. Most people (not all!) look at the sub count for confirmation of animation skill, instead of finding out the quality for themselves. “Oh, you don’t have 10,000 subs? Not even 1,000? You must be a terrible animator!” And then they move on without even bothering. It’s kind of sad. Alice Darkfern was right, anyway. MAPs are only for professionals, it seems.

I think this was posted at a PERFECT time! Everyone has and is still doing amazing work, this is so inspirational! I love this community and seeing this makes me even more proud to be apart of it!

I see a lot of people saying this is inspirational and I also see a lot of other artists saying that it just makes them feel worse. Just about every single one of these people at some time probably wanted to quit or thought their art next to someone elses was horrible...hell I"m sure sometimes they still do. But they pushed and now they've shown their improvement. In the next couple years they'l improve even more..so will you. No matter how you think your art looks now it'll get better it will. Its difficult but one thing I've learned from drawing is you can't compare yourself to others, its hard..but you can't. You haft to look at another persons art as that, theres and maybe take something away from it. Learn from it, but don't compare yourself in a negative fashion. Compare in a way that...makes you yearn for that skill if you must, and then use that yearn to push you. Everyone thinks their creations some days aren't amazing or good, the people who keep pushing are the ones who see their improvement later and look back amazed at 'how far they've come'. Now past all that: I"VE BEEN SO EXCITED WAITING FOR THIS ANIMATION HOLY HELL! And literally EVERYONE has improved so much. You always see maps where some people are so drastically above others and it must be intimidating. This..this highlights everyones skills and its so nice. You see people who were good already, learning fundamentals and perfecting parts of their styles; and you see people who were just starting out improve insanely as well and thats so amazing. The video didn't highlight one persons piece, it highlighted everyones improvement and thats so wonderful. For someone who does art like myself, I've always wanted to animate but I haven't even nailed my art as is, this makes me want to push. I've seen my own improvement and I see everyone elses and its so wonderful. Thankyou everyone for being a part of this video, thank you Ginja for hosting it. This is an amazing piece.

Even 6 whole years later I still find myself coming back to this. This map, this song. it inspires me so much. You may never see this message, but Ginja; You were one of my biggest inspirations as a young artist. To draw, to animate, and even just to create in general. CarmelBear Flipaclip is a free animating app for Tablet/Ipad and it is great! For computer I would reccomend a free version of Adobe macromedia flash (Windows) Pencil 2D (Mac and Windows) Or Fire alpaca (Mac and windows)

I REALLY hate it when people mock other people work and tell them not to continue because thats rude and besides everyone once started without much skill. do you think all disney animators were disney worthy when they just started doing art? NO!!! leanardo once sucked at art before he was loved for it. everyone was a little kid who drew a tiny bit better than random squiggles once! so really you have no right to tell someone what they do is bad and that they shouldnt continue cause in reality they SHOULD continue because thats how you get better. you only have the right to tell someone there a bad artist if they never try anything new and never try to improve because everyone can be a great artist/animator if they want and we all start kinda slow so dont listen to people who tell you that your cringy cause ive had people tell me im cringy but thats because they cant see potential even when there three feet away from it.and EVERYNE has potential :3

I know how you feel..right now I'm biting the bullet and trying to animate for my friend who is a pretty good animator himself. I recommend just using any drawing program you have right now and windows movie maker if you have it, or if you have a tablet, FlipaClip is good too.

just improve it like one improves art, copy your favourite artists, develop your style, video record real life situations and try to animate them, take life drawing and realism classes, take scenes outnof your favourite movies or songs and animate to them, and get in the community as much as you can! This is actually coming from someone in the same position as you who has not managed to force herself to give animating a try lol ;_;

I started by drawing a LOT. Once you have the art thing down, try to do small, simple animations, like blinking or smiling. Then you could try something like a water droplet, or a simple walk cycle, etc.

The message on the end hit me cause for me, i started like around 2014 or less. Can't remember but i stopped because im so impatient...lost my interest...i feel sad about it for a long time. I know we started at very different timeline. I see flaws in my drawings and animation that i stopped sometimes for a year or more. I was born to be so perfectionist that i hate that one trait of my personality. It destroys me a lot especially my hobbies. I see that i will never improve if i don't do mistakes. Sometimes i just want to cry out of frustration.

This is why I tell people that anyone can draw, anyone can animate. But not everyone will have the gumption to stick with it or to practice like they should. I've never subscribed to the belief that "you're not good, so you should stop" mentality that seems to go around the internet (mostly critique channels and so forth). It doesn't matter what your work looks like right now, if all you can draw is a stick figure or you still haven't finished a walk cycle. If you keep at it, keep learning, keep trying, you WILL improve. You might not see it, but when placed side by side like this, its obvious. I hope that we can see another improvement map in 2-5 years from now and really see how these artists jumped from their formative years.

having severe art block for weeks. im rewatching this for the second time after what feels like a year, and i just started crying. ive been so sad about my art. i feel like ive gotten nowhere. but this is helping me see how far ive actually come over the past few years! every artist is very critical towards themselves, i feel like thats just part of being an artist. but you learn and grow a littlr every day. some people grow a little faster, some slower, but all that matters is that youre doing your best. you will be happy with your art someday soon. dont give up! no one is born a perfect artist, it takes a LOT of practice!

TheFlavorPurple while I don't know what CrazyCat uses to animate, I can still recommend a few programs for beginners. Pencil2D is good to start out with. There are a few problems with it, such as how exporting doesn't always work, and it can crash every once in a while, but other than that it's pretty good, and it's what I started out using. FireAlpaca and Gimp are other good ones. Though they're not animating programs, you can still draw your frames in them and then edit the frames together in a program such as Windows Movie Maker or iMovie. Oh, I almost forgot to mention. All of these programs I'm mentioning are absolutely free. If you don't want to download a program and risk getting a virus, you could just use MS Paint. There are multiple tutorials on KZbin that can help you learn how to animate using Paint. Flipnote Studio is another animating program. Technically this isn't free, though, because it's only available on a Nintendo 3DS, which costs money. Anyway, Flipnote is a very simple and straightforward program. It's a bit like drawing on a piece of paper, since you're drawing directly on the screen. I've used it a few times to test things, but personally I haven't used it for map parts or anything (though I do have friends who use it for basically everything) Last one is flipaclip. This one is an app you can get on the app store or Google Play. It's a little better than Flipnote in my opinion, because it has more color and layer options, but it's a little harder to draw using it unless you use a special pen to draw on your phone. That's all I could think of off the top of your head, but I'm sure if you google "free simple animation programs", you could find more. Good luck, sorry for writing such a long comment ^^;

kaniel ruined it with the furry one :/ (there I said it first before anyone else you're welcome ; ) ) I've been in the community since 2009 and the way I've grown as an artist for the past 7 years so has the entire community. I saw a lot of people come and go, some are still here today it's amazing! It's bringing me to tears to see our little community grow so fast and the MAP really shows it. We all started from MS paint and look where we are now! And we all should grow even more! Just the thought that some of us will probably have their works shown on the big screen one day blows my mind because we all started out as a just a bunch of children who liked to spend their free time drawing moving pictures of cats. Thank you Rea for hosting a MAP which shows the amazing progress of growth and I really hope it inspires young and new members of our community to never stop improving because you will get there if you have the motivation and keep on working on it! The MAP looks amazing and I'm proud of every single one of you!

I want to cry over how amazing everyone has become. Some of these were barely moving animations, but then a few years later you see their animations have improved by so much to the point where there's facial expressions and leg movements and then small details like eyes moving just an inch to look at something. Everybody on here has come so so far and their art is just phenomenal now. I have just started animating myself and I can't wait until I start my first map cause this is going to be so much fun for me.
