I swear i remember being a 14 year old kid back in 2015 at the BP eastlink car meet being absolutely PERPLEXED at this particular build. I had just recived an RB30 long block for $95 as a 14th birthday present and i just couldn't control myself. The moment he popped the bonnet and i saw the 26 i was like WHAT!!!! Ah the good ol days before covid and shit. Top level build mate!

When researching all the work in the car I couldn’t believe how much I could do with little to no engineering. Probably the most engineering that went into it was removing the front axle assembly from the sump for the engine swap. Everything else was literally off the shelf Nissan parts that bolted up with very little modification which made getting the engineers certificate easy

Nobody else had them either as they were exclusive to the Japanese domestic market. To my knowledge once somebody in Australia purchased one in the 80's and began being successful in Australian racing the genie was out of the bottle. Direct imports from Japan began in the 90's and once international car magazine began testing them readers learned about them too.

I was too nervous and left half the info about the car out. I love the GTR lip as it’s kind of a one of, but always had my heart set on an auto spoiler but won’t fit with the front mount cooler.

When i built my R31 wagon, we had to do things the hard way- RB30 bottom end with RB20 head that had things welded up, an EA Falcon live axle diff that was shortened & mounts changed (tack welded mounts in place, and a diff & gearbox bloke would come around for a box of VB throwdowns to check it & weld it up properly), turbo that was far too big but was cheap from an importer & moving the exhaust cam a tooth to help things along... Next to no imports in regional NSW towns in the late 90's/ early 2000's, only 5lt Commys & Falcons, so would win many a race!

Very neat build and I love how nice it sounds and is quiet too, noisy cars are annoying. Currently driving my nephews car and he did the cheap one muffler 150 buck ebay sports exhaust special, soon as I got the car in my hands I had another muffler added for 2 mufflers like factory but it's still too loud as the primary muffler is basically not even a muffler imho.

Luke these videos are mad but I rekon get driving footages from inside and outside. People love to hear the car and feel like they’re driving it. It’s almost anti climactic when we don’t get to see driving footage from outside and inside.

At the time of buying this Hr31’s we’re valued about $5500. People see the car now and wonder why I don’t pump more money into it and I just say r31 owners are well known for not having money to spend on their cars, if we did we wouldn’t be driving r31’s 😆

I was lucky enough to buy one of these about 12 years ago with an RB25 swap for $5k. The rb20 nugget snapped the timing belt and bent the valves. They weren't worth anything back then really, neither were R32 GTR's, going for 18k for a rough example.

When I was getting the engine built you could get a really nice r32 GTR for $22k. I asked Racepace what the cheapest they had payed for a GTR was and they said $6k. Imagine getting one for that now.

@@SKIPPY6513 I remember that well. SkylinesAustralia had a heap of 20k R32 GTRs. Everyone was saying "stay away from the 16k ones.. ticking time bomb" it's kinda sad now car forums have died off so much. FB groups are just no where near the same quality of enthusiast knowledge. My biggest regret was not getting a workshop owned 22k R33 GTR with a built motor, drove past it everyday. JustJap had a silver R34 GTR for 38k, if only.

The Apexi computer was the one to have in 2014 now it’s the haltech. Barry ( backing the car on the dyno) is trying to convince me to do an e85 tune but I don’t drive the car enough to warrant it . For now I can just put the baby seats in the back and go for a cruise with my baby girls is good enough for me.

The hr31 does nothing for me . I had an mr30 and always wanted a dr30 . Nissan did a good job of making most parts interchange in different vehicles . My r200 came from a 300z and bolted right in . Built to thrash the old nissans were made for . Drive them Like you stole them and they take it .

After 5 stud conversion the wheels I had didn’t fit anymore as were touching coil overs. I was starting a family and needed some wheels and tyres that were within budget. Eventually I’ll get something more suitable but gotta stop spending money at some point and enjoy it.
