This is probably the best thing 3d printing can do for model railroading, since the quality doesn't need to be stupendous for it to improve the existing model. A simple interior can bring any model to life!

Yes as you say towards the end of this video, I would paint the hinges on the storeage boxs perhaps blck, and try and clean up the wheel a bit. Difficult as it is small, and adding a figure would really set it off. As for the RRP for these models, they ought to have the inside details already, that is one reason that I have not bought one for my O gauge stuff. Like always I really enjoy seeing your 3D printing projects, your skills have come on in sutch a shrot time. !

It's projects like this that cross the divide from playing trains to being a modeler - taking something that isn't up to your on standards and improving it. A great little project. Since I don't have a 3D printer I probably would have had to go down the route of pilfering bits from signal box interior kits (Peco do very nice O gauge kits in this regard)

could a clearer acrylic be used for the windows to allow for better internal viewing, but either way looks perfect to me. I think the fine print lines help to add to the illusion of wood grain, as a lot of the internal fixtures such as the floor, tool boxes and benches would all have been wood. Just needs a Kettle, and cups now 😃
@mewtheenigma2732 Жыл бұрын
Bang-up job, Sam. Weren’t the Hattons Genesis coaches missing detail in their brake compartments? That might be an option for next time. As for your Ender 3 not managing finer details that well, have you fiddled with the print specifications much for finer details?
@EsotericArctos Жыл бұрын
When you are printing at such small layer heights, are you still using the 0.4mm nozzle, or have you changed to a 0.2mm nozzle? I have an Ender 5 Pro and it is really accurate with printing and with a 0.2mm nozzle can almost eliminate layer lines.

Great job! And fun fact with the Pillbox brake vans for you. Their origins go back to the SECR dancehall brakes which were too big and hard to keep warm in winter. So they were re designed with a smaller guard space and shortened open ends. They were so successful that BR used the templates to build their own fleet of Brakes. great work with the 3d printer
@vduridalternatives Жыл бұрын
The BR standard brakevan is based on an LNER design, nothing to do with SECR vans. Interestingly SR design vans were not built by BR, unlike GWR, LNER and LMS variants!!

I would suggest that it would have been better to make the upper part of the 'stove' from some sort of tubing (so it looks smoother) and used some sore of pre-made brake wheel (or steering wheel) from another model, mostly just to reduce the 'jaggies'.

You just need to set the units to meters, and continue inputting your units in MM, this creates models at 1000x scale, and then you can make objects as small as you want... 3D printer slicer software still reads the files in MM, so you don't even have to scale! Thanks for watching, Sam :)

Hi Sam, Very well done with this video Sam. Some other helpful suggestions if I may. Having worked a brakevan or two the stoves therein were painted in black enamel. The brake wheels were usually red. Also you may consider fitting some vacuum brake and air brake pipeage with associated gauges and valves. I think you may find that your 3D printer is perfectly capable of replicating these features. I hope you find this useful. If you were to sell one of these interiors how much would you charge? I have a similar brake van to yours and would love just such an interior. All the best for 2023, Jon Barnes. 👏👍🙂

I recently bought a listing for components to make at least 5 chassis’s for the Airfix GMR Prairie model, I’ve already got one complete, but I’m lacking cylinder blocks as the listing only came with one which could be used, would a 3D printed cylinder block for the prairie be possible, or would it be better to hunt for existing Airfix GMR ones, or would I have to resort to trying to use the cylinders from the Dapol Kitmaster prairie kit?

Hi I work at a heritage railway and you done an okish job and with the limited view through the windows looks good but you do have a few details that are off. The stove should have a flat top where you could put a kettle with the flue coming out the back. there is a desk opposite the stove, the tool box and ducket seats are inline and continuous on both sides and the hand brake is off to the side diagonally opposite the stove. if you wanted photos of an interior I could probably take some for you.
