Other sorts of dragon minions include, but are not limited to: 1) Dragon cultists; can overlap with other types 2) Draconic sorcerers; could, indeed, be the descendants of the dragon, or have bartered for power (dragon blood has magical properties) in exchange for servitude 3) Dragonscarred Dead; an undead monster from 4e created by dying by dragon breath weapon and becoming reanimated, either spontaneously or deliberately by the dragon exercising necromancy 4) Artists and artisans; enslaved by the dragon, who not only wants wealth, but the means to produce it. If you ever come across coins with a particular dragon's face on them, it might be a bit of the dragon's hoard that got away from them. Enslaved artisans may desire to be freed (necessitating slave-masters to keep them, which might simply be paid by the dragon), but some may act against intruders to curry favor with their master. Others might be so cowed - or be the latest in multiple generations of slaves - rebellion is unthinkable, and defend their dragon master as a matter of course. 5) Sycophants; dragons are prideful as a rule, and some are positively vain, attracting fawning courtiers and hangers-on who flatter the dragon and do things for them 6) Spellcasters; some dragons study magic, and being so long-lived means they'll have amassed a great deal of knowledge and magical artifacts. Wizards and other sorts might pay great tribute (gold, books, magic items) to access the dragon's library, and to converse with the great wyrm about a variety of subjects 7) Bureaucrats; I've got an idea for a dragon who owns and operates a bank in a major trade city. The halls are filled with not just guards (only the finest and most loyal), but bank workers. The dragon doesn't just serve as a physical threat, but a financial one, foreclosing on properties or buying out businesses.
@nhahtrebor914 жыл бұрын
I like all of these, but coins with the dragons face is too good to pass up! Maybe instead of only riches it wants to be famous so it has these gold coins made and spread into the kingdoms currency to spread the dragon's name throughout the world.
@Bluecho44 жыл бұрын
@@nhahtrebor91 My thinking was that the dragon is basically putting his "name" all over his stuff. Not just as a sign of ownership or vanity, but as an attempt at a form of immortality. Librarian dragon with an army of kobolds, hoarding books, scrolls, artifacts, and anything else with a story behind it. This dragon will gladly trade a story for another, and remembers every story she has ever heard. She deals in knowledge, not in gold. She's kept secrets of vast importance about cultures long dead and crafts long forgotten, as well as legends long since told to children, and the reality of them. Her ancient collection is home to knowledge even the most well read scholars scarcely glimpse in their short lives. One thing she always is in the market for is a new artifact, even if its the same as one she has, as long as you can tell her where its been and how its been used, where you found it and anything else about its story. A thousand identical coins will never have the same stories. This was inspired by the neat freak perfectionist dragon you off handedly mentioned. To anybody who likes this idea, feel free to use it as your own.

I absolutely love Dragons, and I always have. My one shot( that was so good, it became a full campaign) had the "Final" boss be a White Dragon who killed and now roosts a Dwarven mountain kingdom for his home. The campaign that took hold after has Dragons as the BBEGs, not in the sense of "it's a Dargun, killit!", but polymorphed and having taken over the Empire. It's Dungeons and Dragons, both of those should be explored, and both should be given a lot of respect.
@hansw154 жыл бұрын
As a dragon myself, I do find the occasional human home makes for lovely lawn decorations outside ones lair, though too many homes bring a greater chance of villages, which will cut down the lovely trees and generally make a mess of your carefully planned garden. No more than 4 or 5 buildings dotted around should be enough, the small ones can then build their villages and cities nearby provided they leave your garden alone. If a human or elf wants to live in the homes, you can ask them for gold or treasure in return, and they might even hunt undesirable vermin from your garden as well.

a friend and i brainstormed up a fun dragon lair a while ago. Because i cant write to save my life I'll give the short version. The Dragon has Kobold minions who all wear hats with large emeralds on the top of them. The whole lair is basically a big kobold community and every now and then the dragon reaches down from above and moves a few kobolds around to make them do different things. The dragon is playing The Sims with their kobold minions. Have fun with that.
@YuubiTimberwolf4 жыл бұрын
A good tip i can give: Make your players feel torn about killing the dragon because of thier minions. This adds an psychological "trap" to thier adventure, like, how can you kill the savior of a kobold tribe who had struggled to survive and to exist in a very dangerous place they refuse/cant leave?(ancestors promise etc.) Maybe the dragon kept more dangerous beasts at bay and without it there would be a risk that those do much more harm? Sure, your adventurers could do sonething, but would it been worth? Even chromatic dragons are not 100% evil, cunning yes, narscisstic of course! But they are no foul beasts lead by instinct and devoided by forsight.

A random thought that popped into my head this morning before I saw this video: Imagine your party finds the dragon in the deepest corner of its lair (that would kinda look like a dragon-sized "living room" with books and stuff), the dragon just sitting there with tiny glasses reading a book, and the dragon would happen to have a Charisma of 20. I haven't played D&D nor will I likely ever be able to try it. This was just a random silly thought from me I wanted to share while I can.

There is the spell conjure familiar but its kinda barebones and dont alude to the great mages with pseudodragons as their familiars and its kinda unfair that only warlocks can have an pixie as familiars. Also animal handling is barely used in most games, there are goblins riding giant wolves, why can't i ride one too?!That would be DOPE!
