IMPROVING FACTORY SOLAR | ORV 28BKS

Already have factory solar, but would like to beef it up? We can help.
We upgraded this 2024 Outdoors RV 28BKS for a customer in Alaska at Apache Camping Center in Everett, WA. The day after our install, he had it shipped to AK.
Outdoors RV's are already coming with 400W standard on all models. But those factory panels are just to charge your batteries. With this 100W of factory solar, we added a Victron Suite and turned it into a true off-grid machine.
We installed 3x ‪@sokbattery‬ lithium batteries and an in-line Progressive Industries EMS. We also installed the 3000W MultiPlus, two ‪@VictronEnergyBV‬ MPPT's for the array configuration, and of course the Cerbo GX. This RV is now ready to adventure off-grid in The Last Frontier.

Why two charge controllers? Are all those panels in parallel? What is the system voltage? I saw all those thick cables. Why not go 48v???

In our opinion 24v and 48v systems don't really show their value until over 2000w of solar and dual inverters. Smaller MPPTs and smaller cabling can help bring costs and weight down and make the system more efficient, but for this size system 24v would have just added more expense for the same function. The two charge controllers are because this factory solar is wired in paralell, two sets. You can check out a video of our 24v systems.

What is an EMS and does it do?

Electrical Management System: It monitors shore power and protects against high/low voltage conditions, power surges, incorrectly wired shore power, etc.

You can think of it as a more advanced surge protector. Usually people plug them into the pedestal and then plug their RV into that. But in this case we wired it in so that the customer doesn't have to plug it into the pedestal each time.

@@mytsolar And they are pretty expensive and like to "walk away" often. Bringing it indoors prevents theft.
