Great to hear it! Most of these videos I make are based on problems and barriers. My students are encountering while I coach them here in Vassiliki. It’s all very real world and I’m coaching the points that I know work with the students! Glad you find them helpful too.

intermediate here.. i though my setup was perfect... but after 2 hours my back hands were struggling.. it was just about 2! centimeters too much to the front on the boom. So i rearranged the lines and i did an hour more because no pulling on the hands anymore.. the setup felt completely different and i was a bit faster too. So yes! This video is good :)

Great video, Cookie! For an intermediate or advanced windsurfer, what are the pros and cons of a seat harness vs a waist harness when it comes to getting planing and also when it comes to control in high wind?
@Cookiesports5 ай бұрын
Thanks! The biggest con of a seat harness is people sit in it! Sitting into the harness pushes the power of the sale down into the board and the board down into the water, it does not channel the power forwards making the board accelerate! The biggest con of a waist harness is it rises up peoples chest. This happens because they sit into the harness. The solution to this, people think, is to buy a seat harness! Then they sit in the sail/harness and wonder why they need one to 2 m bigger sail than everyone else!

Thank you, this is really useful and well made. What harness line length do you recommend? Do you have a video about the safety of holding the boom? That sounds interesting, I have been tangled up.

I ran windsurf schools for a long time before becoming a freelance coach… for the schools I’d buy 26-32 adjustable- that covered all adult sizes needed- unless you’re very tall (above 195cm or so), in which case longer - but always adjustable!
@matthias72535 ай бұрын
@@Cookiesports that's interesting, thanks for the advice. I thought people use adjustables to find out the right size and then switch to fixed lines. I don't like my adjustables because they are not as sturdy. I just discovered the quick release vario lines from point 7! I will try out those.

hey cookie, is it better to first hook into the harness and then push the board away and plane, or is it better to first push the board away, plane, get into the front footstrap and only then hook in?
@Cookiesports6 ай бұрын
Both ways are good… you have more freedom unhooked- but then harder work on you hands/arms. On the other side unhooked you can get lower and drive the board with more force… but likely will have to head further off the wind!

When do you start using the harness? I get tired after 30 minutes as a beginner. Can I begin to use the harness or is It better to first improve before trying it?

Hello Cookie, I’ve the issue when I seal in chop condition where I’m hook out. I don’t known if it’s a matter of wrong stance or harness length. Any suggestion?
@Cookiesports6 ай бұрын
Ease up the grip on the boom… pulling the sail right and the hook will pop out.

Ok quick question. Yesterday I windsurfed in 6+ bft with a 4.5 sail and there were moments that I could not pull the sail at all in order to speed up. The wind was keeping it neutral. Consequently in many instances it was hard for me to hook in as I could not pull the sail as much as I'd like get in the straps etc. What do I do in such cases? Should I for example have the harness lines much closer to the mast, stand close to it in order to hook in and start pulling the sail with my body? My arms could not overcome the power of the gusts!
@furan47136 ай бұрын
Try getting upwind like you were almost preparing for a tack so the sail will be light then hook in and then fall off down wind
@Cookiesports6 ай бұрын
Start further upwind! When you do that the sail will de-power and e closer to you- making hooking in much easier.

I'm starting to planing, mostly out of control. Conditions are usually choppy so it happens often that I unhook unwillingly. Is this happening because I am more squatting down rather backwards?
@Cookiesports5 ай бұрын
Squatting/leaning back will both keep tension in the line and you won’t un-hook… chances are you’re taking too much weight in your arms so no tension in the lines.

What do you do to not let the harness ride up? In this video your harness is way too much up for my liking, i want it lower.
@Cookiesports6 ай бұрын
Hook for waist harnesses should be around your belly button…as mine is in the video. If the pull of the lines is away (not up) the harness will not rise up. Follow the tips in the video and you’ll be fine ✅
@Windsurfwannabe5 ай бұрын
the movements are so subtil that they hard to see it on video. How do you get to have your back hand so close to the harness line and still have leverege no pull in the sail. watching back my videos i see my back hand is no where near the harness line so i can do the trick of flicking the harness line to hook or unhook. kzbin.info/www/bejne/joTRoZ2prNqHp5I
@Cookiesports5 ай бұрын
Sounds like your harness lines are too far forward. If they are set correctly you don’t need to pull the back hand hard as your body weight in the harness closes the sail.
