Improving ICU care through Encouragement of Mobility

Alison Wilson, MD, FACS, presents the Importance of Mobility in the ICU at the 11th annual Southwest Trauma & Acute Care Symposium on November 14, 2019, in Scottsdale, AZ. She discusses the danger of ICU Acquired Weakness, Critical Illness Polyneuropathy, and Critical Illness Myopathy as well as steps that we can take to prevent this in the ICU. Through Insulin resistance, protein degradation, cellular apoptosis, each day of bed rest can result in up to 1.5% of lean muscle mass degradation.
