Thanks, your video is ideal timing for me because I have been working on All the Things you are and need to expand my music vocabulary. You are easy to understand and also take it in a step by step process. Thanks

Fine musical insights. I'm happy to see you playin' Godin guitars. I still have my Godin Montreal.2-voice model....The neck/fingerboard are exceptional. They make such fine, under utilised guitars.
@jazzguitar9 жыл бұрын
+arniemax1 Thanks. The Godin sounds great. But the original pickups were (almost literally) fridge magnets! I put a pair of SH-55, and I'm a happy camper. :-)

As said below, eureka. That said, the video and pdf are great to learn from and then to practice, practice, practice and apply to other standards on my own. But, more examples are always great. Do you have plans for another video/pdf for another standard addressing the same concept?
@jazzguitar9 жыл бұрын
+Jerry Feldman Perhaps, yes, I should create more videos with that same concepts on other songs. :-)

This lesson and the following (and the PDF) are such great material, Mark. I mean to take a Skype session from you soon, if I can, and I hope that these online courses are working out for you, because I think the way you bring things together--the practical and the theoretical, personable and professional--is very effective. Cheers and thanks a lot for doing all this

+Ian Oeschger Thanks! I'm working very hard (you wouldn't believe) and I'm happy to hear about happy fans. If the lessons help you and are fun, I reached my goal! :-)

+jazz guitar lessons No it seems like it! (re: working hard) All the email+download+site gadgetry. Effective without seeming--as +arniemax1 said--at all spammy. Great. BTW, I like that in the V7 chords of this first exercise, the line seems to be (3rd)-b9-R-b7...Is that typical, the b9 to outline the V going to the I?
@jazzguitar9 жыл бұрын
+Ian Oeschger Thanks. And yes, the b9 is a very common tone for the V chord. It lives in the harmonic minor scale. For instance, think of the G7 chord in the context of C harmonic minor. You get an Ab note ... and that's you're b9. You also get a b13 (the Eb note).

May I know what are the descending notes to play after hitting the 3rd?
@jazzguitar5 жыл бұрын
Hi John! You can find them here:www.jazzguitarlessons.net/blog/making-the-changes-on-all-the-things-you-are Basically, you play descending quarter notes in whatever chord scale you're in at the moment. This tune goes through a lot of different keys (Ab, C, Eb, G, E, and back to Ab) so tread carefully at first!
@tal_1758 жыл бұрын
At 3:45 you say "Now I am done with C major" after you played the melody in the first 4 bars. Isn't it AbMajor though?
@jazzguitar8 жыл бұрын
Hi Atalay, The shape does look almost identical to an Ab Major but the chord being played is actually a Cmaj9. The fretted notes are: - The root, C, on the 6th string, - The 7th, B, on the 9th fret of the 4th string - The 9th, D, on the 7th fret of the 3rd string - The 3rd (or 10th), on the 5th fret of the 2nd string.
@tal_1758 жыл бұрын
Yes, thanks. I thought you were referring to the scale that was played. Now I see you were referring to the chord that followed.

I so appreciate the lack of 'Merchandising' in your work on you tube. I believe that decision speaks to the type of person you are. Always find you to be a sincere Musician, Educator.. Just wanted to speak of 'All the things you are'.... so to speak. haha

Hey Marc, Just helping you out. In exercise # 2 on PDF bar 15 over G Maj7 (page 3) you missed putting in the D note fingering, 15th fret B string. Did you do this on guitar pro?
