Hi I’m really horrible at this because I try to really analyse and build off of that but at 7:00 you show a major scale but the A is missing in the scale but you have B there in place of it ? Typo ? Because it’s things like that that really make it a struggle to truly embrace the knowledge . Also I wish you didn’t deviate from the formula of playing the scales slowly and with individual notes like you did in the beginning. Your English is superb but at times I could not hear clearly and yet again got stuck in a whirlpool of confusion . Hope you can clarify is that was a typo Ty

One of the best things about this explanation is the fact that no new patterns were introduced. So, if you know your patterns well, you can modify which pattern you play where depending on the particular mode you are in. That's HUGE!

Excelente material!

i still have some questions. If there's a backing track that plays D major scale chord : D - Bm - A - G. Simple progression. Which modes can i use? Thank you so much.
@xwinglover3 жыл бұрын
@@diabetespotato5388 The mode is driven by the chords in the track and what the tonic / home chord is. In your jam track, given the tonic / home chord is the D and the other chords in this track belong diatonically (i.e. in strict music theory) to the key of D-major (chords being D, Em, F#m, G, A, Bm, C#dim), your mode would be D-major (also called Ionian). But say the same chords in your jam track were re-arranged in the order of Bm-D-A-G, the song would be different and have a different flavour (given the minor start/end). The mode of this track would now be B minor (Aeolian) given the home chord / tonic is the Bm chord, despite all the chords still coming from the parent D-major key. Again, if the same chords in the jam track were rearranged to be A-G-Bm-D, the sound would be different again. A song starting on the 5th note of the scale (A) using the D major scale would make the mode A-Mixoldydian with its own sound / flavour. It again uses the exact same chords as those in D-major, but having the A chord as home / tonic and its own flavour (mixolydian is used often by AC/DC and rock songs). Summary: each of these re-arranged progressions in the jam track use the same chords, but mixed u create a different music style / flavour. When soloing, you can use those exact same notes from the parent key, but the tonic is the focus. You are soloing in the key of D in any of the modes taken from the D major parent scale (e.g. B minor, A mixolydian, G lydian, E dorian, F# phrygian, etc). Once you get this, then you can then explore how to mix modes together, and how music is sometimes constructed using different modes of the same parent key, and sometimes to parallel keys, or that breaking the laws of music can be used to create new music (blues does this playing the minor scale over its parallel major). Or that you could jam over a drone note usings several modes to create different flavours. For example drone note of say C played continuously, with no other chord changes, and you start to play a C mixolydian progression, then move to Ionian, but then change to a minor flavour mid-song e.g. c dorian and then aeolian). Lots of movie scores mix modes even across bar changes. Look for David Bennett Piano channel in Star Wars and how they create feelings: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHWZk4xtjL-Jrsk&ab_channel=DavidBennettPiano. A bit complex, but you will get some of it, and why modes can be used to make us feel a certain way. Overall, the chords drive the key, and the home note drives the mode. The less specific the chords, the more you can experiment across modal flavours to create music to suit the musical story.

Watching this video for the fourth time, finally got everything down. This video is so well made, I just wasn't ready for it. If someone's struggling like I did, I'd suggest to take the time and first learn the major scales and their notes all accross the fretboard. When you can recognize notes from a scale and play it without thinking then modes truly start making sense. They're simply differents ways of exploring the major scale. Good luck and thanks for this wonderful video !
