One of the best piano lessons I have ever seen or heard. I love how you first stripped the chords from the right hand built a rhythm using the timing of the beat one key at a time and then put the chords back in the right hand again. Absolutely brilliant!!!!

it's awesome and just beautiful and also kinda crazy how just a singular sound can change the feelings in a tune

Right? Try and experiment with different single notes to really get to know their flavour so you can add them to your grab bag - your musical vocabulary. Thanks for your comment Hakan. Cheers, Coen.

I've asked multiple people what type of "pattern" and "rules" you have to follow when improvising, and no one could give me an answer I understood. I was beginning to think I was asking the wrong question, but this is exactly what i was looking for. Try these chords, this key will sound good with it. Get used to that, now add in this key, get the timing down. Now add in another key, etc. That's perfect. can't wait to get home and do this.

Really helpful stuff! I was actually surprised that I couldn’t improvise because I don’t struggle with playing songs, as you said, but when it comes to solos or improvisation, I always come up with a blank mind. This video showed me that piano improvisation is easy as 123 if you put in effort and know your keys!

8:32 epic MIXOLYDIAN scale in C: starting with introducing Bb with the help of its 5th (F) in the left so that Bb isn't the awkward loner out of the key of C. This throws the 7th degree (B) down to Bb, changing 3 chords in the key. The V Chord (G) turns gets turned into v (Gm) giving the root C more pronouncement and spotlight. The awkward vii chord (awkward Bdim) is loosened out to (B) which eases the tension at the end of the scale and makes you sigh. Finally the iii chord (Em) is shrunk to (Edim) again giving more pronouncement in the root. Only downside is that you either have to move to a new key or you almost HAVE to keep injecting the Bb. Or its just F key. :P

Does it matter if the riffs or fills clashes with the melody (singers) notes? Forming a chord that does not exist? e.g. the singer is C and the riff/fill is on D... or u can argue that a C, D is one of the sus chords?

The note on the left of / is played as a chord by right hand. The note on the right is the note that you play with your left hand.
@jryan8374
@jryan8374 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah All that means is, say you have a D/F#, the D chord would be played with the right hand, the F# is what’s in the bass so you would play that with a left hand

Hi Sara, thanks for buying this lesson's Tutorial Pack! Since you were not fully satisfied, we have immediately refunded the purchase amount. Yes, our method Hack the Piano hackthepiano.com is completely built on-, from- and for learning about these types of things and this kind of playing. :) Regarding this Tutorial Pack and this particular lesson: sincere apologies that it wasn't to your liking. Although many of the Tutorial Packs contain extra parts (video) of the lesson not available on KZbin, on top of the handout, MIDIs and audio file, this one has indeed just those extra learning tools since this was in fact the whole lesson. The lesson is however part of a "pack" (kind of like a mini course) that is soon to be released on our new website pianolingo.com. Hope that helps! Cheers, Coen.

Ok thanks so much. I really appreciate it. now I am wondering if I can give you a private lead sheet and if you can tell me how you would accompany it.....Basically, how much would you charge to help me privately. I am not sure how to message you privately regarding this. I have looked at your website, a lot of it I already know. My questions are more advanced probably. Again thanks again.
