Hey girl! Big fan. So, in case you were wondering, here's why it turned out that way: SO you didn't separate the hair into small enough sections, which is why it didn't take--and your already bleached hair on the bottom (it just had one layer of color on top, right?), which the forty volume took right off, which is why it lightened fast--and your roots lightened fast because of the heat from your scalp. For the mids, sounds/looks like they didn't get hot enough to lift properly/faster than the other areas...and again, because you didn't separate them into smaller sections. A stylist would've done maybe three foils per section instead of one. And the toner burned because you got bleach on your scalp, which creates small abrasions in the epidermis (small cuts in the top layer of skin) and though you can't see them, they're there. Then the toner overtop, which you applied right on the root, gets in the cuts and burns (been there, girl!! Believe me!!) Hard to avoid, but the cuts are usually caused from multiple bleaching sessions at once. It's the same process that turns your fingers white after you get bleach on them. Hope this helps for if you do an at-home job in the future :) Personally, still think it came out great even though the end result was a little more red than pink (because pink dye + yellow hair = red). I think the look is savage.
