So I kind of believe his point and kind of don't. The title of "Kafir" can only be fit to some. Mushrikeens are a better title. Now let me explain. To my description a Kafir is someone who acts against Islam and / or while knowing it is the truth and running and hiding from it. Like our little idiot Apostate prophet. But For example Non-Muslims are not Kafireen they are Mushrikeens. Like the Uncle of our beloved prophet Hazrat Abu Talib (RA). According to streamline Sunni belief Hazrat Abu Talib died as a "polythiest" but He is never remembered by the title of Kafir. He is not in that description. Why? I mean by Brother Syfe's description He would've been called a Kafir because He didn't take the physical action. Now I will admit He did agree to Muhammad (SAW)'s words but just never took Shahadah. Again the title was never used on him. This is not up for debate just my opinion.

Syfe knows the Islamic rules, but he lacks wisdom to truly understand nuance and applicability in this instance. The Pope is an extreme example to give here. He is clearly a person who not only believes but advocates and champions the kufr found in Christian belief. He's the head of the Church and is technically the head of the Catholic religion as God's "representative" on Earth. The layman who calls him or herself Christian however is very often very ignorant of core Christian beliefs or rejects them, or never even contemplated or examined the implications of what the trinity would have on Monotheism. Hence why the Qur'an addresses the yahood and nasara with repeated arguments and exhortations to think and contemplate. I agree with shaykh Imran on this having been a Catholic myself. I was raised on Catholic education but never believed in Jesus being God. A lot of so called Christians are monotheists but call themselves Christians because they love and seek to follow Jesus. Some actually pray to Jesus but as an intermediary, which is kufr but not shirk in the sense of equating Jesus as God but rather a holier channel through which to communicate to God, the supremacy of God over Jesus being clearly implied in this. This is not to excuse kufr or shirk, but Christians need to be taught what shirk and kufr is. We cannot assume that they know, so only Allah knows. Our job is not to judge individual Christians and dismiss them as kafir until we understand that we have conveyed to them the message, they understood it, and they rejected it. If they die upon falsehood, most definitely they are kuffar, but we may not be spared for not giving proper dawah.

Your first mistake is in claiming that The Qur'an uses the noun, Christian, it never does. Your second mistake is that The Qur'an mentioning what is in hearts, 2:10 , is somehow relevant it is a crime of logic whether or not some Pope is a kaffir because The Qur'an states how we are to know people from different people or communities; Allah implies, by their fruit. Therein are scriptural and educational and historic and any other relevant considerations pertaining to personal circumstance. Your fatal mistake, 3:13 , is the hadith which exposes serious fraudulent error by the scholars you seem to embrace. The Semitic languages do not employ capital letters nor is the noun, muslim, foreign to The Bible (מְשֻׁלָּ֔ם). The prophets from Adam to Yeshua ben Miriam gave us the technical definitions of a muslim which have puzzled Christian commentators in their discussions and which Islamic scholars seem to have ignored, correct me if I am unaware. Moreover the hadith denies the protection to the peoples of The Book afforded through the tax, kosher slaughter and the Jerusalem qibla. What a fine piece of heresy. What an excellent example of fake law. Utterly contradictory to multiple ayat of The Qur'an. Even though I don't agree with everything put out by Sheikh Imran Hosein he does have some excellent insights to The Qur'an which any muslim would do well to consider and believe. 4:52 This gets pretty serious. Of course the revelation of the time is relevant and later you refer to credible sources for validation. However your claims are again a crime of logic. Just because something happened in the past it does not follow that such and such cannot occur again. Claiming that these ayat only apply to the time of revelation is declaring them irrelevant to today. The sheikh also refers to S5:114, not just the first of us but the last too. Coming back to the hadith it should be considered differently, our qibla was originally Jerusalem, Jews and the Netzerim prayed to The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, they originally ate Biblically slaughtered kosher animals, and today fake halal is widespread, and this changes your spin entirely. 11:26 You start down a highly demonic path herein saying, all Christians after Mohammad, S98:6. You claim they are all polytheists! You should state clearly that those who were invited and heard an authentic message but willfully disbelieved (ib. 1) should be considered in this group but there are 3 groups! And formerly you were saying, this only applies to those people, the small group who met the prophet, now you say, this applies to every single one of them! So let's use your same type of logic to prove that every Muslim today is a polytheistic disbeliever, Surah The Criterion/25, ayah/v.30: And the messenger said, “Oh my Adon, surely my people, they took this same-Qur'an, and-shrugged-it-off.”

The Hadith you are referring to does not contradict jizya protection at all but if you read the Hadith alone I can understand why you think that. Hadith is like verses some are revealed in certain context and they also have an explanation or sometimes they are abbreviated from a larger Hadith. For this reason Muslim rulers didn’t work according to your understanding of it because people of the book and those who have a contract with the state are a protected class. So the conservative understanding of even Ibn Taymiya is that it is for non-people of the book from various regions. This Hadith wasn’t said early in Islam but since the topic is open, there is explaining text from the companions or the narrator at what time it was revealed so if this Hadith for example was revealed in the context of Arab pagans then we both wouldn’t disagree
