I could never understand why the general audience has been perceiving YELLO as a synth-pop band. Granted,Dieter and Boris never tried to contradict that perception or to corrrect it but when you listen to full albums like Solid Pleasure,Claro Que Si ,Stella or One Second you realize how brilliantly experimental and innovative this band has been. their music was dark, surreal, amazingly beautiful, colorful.Imagine what kind of music Salvador Dali would write if he had been a musician. It would be pretty close to Yello.

I bought their first album in 1981 because the cover of green baby monster beckons me and also their label Ralph Records being associated with the Residents. Followed them since. Great artists.

I love Yello, but I couldn't get into the Residents. I love experimental, but they were too weird for my taste

....One of the best music bands, which represents, combines different musical styles (Electro, dance, techno, jazz styles, also with great guitar solo, folk rhythms, sometimes with different. other singers and so on., and each of their albums are originals, different and Boris Blank is one of best music creator/composers with amazing sounds....

These two genius gentlemen are a creative tour-de-force who were ridiculously far ahead of their time. Yello's music was/is like nothing else. It is indescribable. Their beautiful electronic futuristic sounds (and those deep voices) remain at the absolute cutting edge. I've loved them for nearly 4 decades. Fun to hear them explain their origin story. In some ways they remind me of an electronic version of David Bowie or Roxy Music. Glam electronica perhaps? They created their own sounds. Music with a fashionable and often over the top theatrical sensibility. It is music to put some headphones on - close your eyes - and get lost in their exquisitely crisp sonic world.

Outstanding As with every Yello fan, I love the humble honesty of these men who's talent for stirring up the imagination when listening to their music is limitless! By far my favourite music. Each album is unique and different- very difficult to do and mastered by Yello, please keep going. SUPERB

Yes and what is most difficult, I think, is that though every album is different you can't identify their mark, their sound...

In 1988 I worked in a record store, and this guy I worked with named Pat Coleman asked me if I ever heard of YELLo. I hadn't, so he played Stella over the store pa system. I promptly devoured everything they did. What struck me was their first album "Solid Pleasure," because it has a deeply strange and psychological atmosphere that blends equal parts horror and comedy. I just bought Toy, and they continue to blow my mind. I was listening to it in the car all afternoon. It's nice to know we live in a world where many of the same people who listen to all other kinds of music can also genuinely appreciate YEllo, because those two do not fool around.

Great interview, funny, and both guys showing a lot of class and respect for each other. So nice and optimistic :) I can add something to Dieter's thoughts at 49:01 - 50:12 Beside the uniform of sound there is also other problem in currently produced electronic music: uniform of ideas. That spark, which brought Yello into fame was in my opinion creativity and constant developing of fresh ideas. Currently a lot of electronic acts are just holding on to verified and safe ideas to get commercial success. Even if anybody will try to go out with something fresh, instantly there will be dozen of copies which will try to mime successful approach of somebody. There is not enough creativity and too much of chasing for commercial success. And final efect of uniform sounds and ideas is that we have got too many similar music productions. When it was harder to create music I think that finally only the most talented peoples with their visions got enough determination to complete that process. Now maybe there is too much peoples that got... no vision at all, but can create music, because it's easier. Anyhow I believe that it's the part of evolution. First step is to make this process easier, like in Yellofier (great app :) ) and next step will be that all these tools and possibilities will find their way to talented ones, that will get from all these tools something more than most of creators. Evolution never stops :) Thanks Yello and thanks IMS for that interview :)
