My 2nd time surfing today and my knees came back bruised. From hitting the side of the board? what did I do wrong

Gday Justin! A little tricky to say without seeing footage/talking about your pop-up but what this is usually from is using your knees on the board in the pop-up process, so whilst you’re bringing one foot through you’re also putting the other knee (usually the back knee) onto the board - which can cause some bruising, happy to chat further if needed, great to hear you’re getting into surfing, yewww!!
