To me Panama is the best choice. I retired to Panama 25 years ago. Lots of advantages especially for an American Much more affordable than Florida for example.

Having lived in Belize it is no longer livable year round due to temps over 40 degrees Celsius every single day for 9 months a year and a crippled power grid due to this demand. No AC. Animals were falling dead from trees due to the extreme heat and dryness (over 50 degree Celsius) last summer. Go rent for a summer before moving. Residency takes 2 years after applying so 3 years and you need to pay monthly during that time.

👍🏽 Thanks for the heads up. Belize was my first choice, mainly due to the cost of housing. I would not be able to stand the extreme or excessive heat though. I want to be at peace, not in misery lol Also, the power grid failing in a place I am not familiar with... I know that some places in Panama also lose power. However, their reviews tend to depict more general safety. I would not be able to sleep, if the power went out at night in a place where I have read that there are issues with murxx and grape🤷🏽

@@Liveandinvestoverseas How long of an exploratory is needed? I do not want to be away from home for a visit. I am not into adventure and travel, what makes life for you expats so amazingly easy. Thus, I am looking to be ready to quickly buy a home, secure my residency, and then come back just long enough to toss all my stuff into a container and get my American house sold. Likely to never return. I have been considering Ecuador, but maybe I should look more towards Belize?

For those interested in moving to Panama - if you have pets, you are allowed to take them with you, but the paperwork required and the related costs kept me from going there...senior with a handful of pets just couldn't afford all of the fees
@yosefmacgruber1920
@yosefmacgruber1920 Ай бұрын
Why do they make pets so complicated? Better plan, do not have any pets until _after_ your move. Could you possibly give your pets away? We humans outlive our pets anyway. Hard to imagine that pets was your deal-killer and not something else? Was there another reason? So where will you go instead?
@SuzyRed6

@yosefmacgruber1920 give your pets away? I'll pretend I didn't even hear that 😵‍💫

@@SuzyRed6 I once had a turtle that I had found and put it into a plastic tub, and my sister let it wander off. Wasn't paying attention as it made a beeline for freedom, or so it seems. Oh well, I had it long enough. It probably would rather be free. At least I am no longer responsible for it. I apparently have higher regard for my sister, than for a mere turtle. Well your pets kept you from going where you wanted to go. That seems to me a heavy cost. I might also get attached to my pets if I had any now. A reason I aim not to have any pets until after I escape from the corrupt has-been USA. I have a friend who had a mean dog, but I guess that dog died or something, and I think he is thinking like me. He wants to go to Israel, and would do that before getting another pet. Well if I only had hamsters, I think that I would give them away. With more important pets, I likely would ask around and see if somebody I trust could give them a new home, and then work on getting my pets conditioned to that. People sometimes have to give away their pets, because their new apartment does not allow such a pet. Have you found another place that you can go, which will be easier to bring pets to?
@SuzyRed6
@SuzyRed6 Ай бұрын
@yosefmacgruber1920 you are wrong or missed the point. Not going to Panama led us to our new home full of peace, joy and beauty... where my kitties can go out when they want and still be protected. We have nice, caring neighbors, healthy food, and clean air besides being able to afford vet bills if necessary. God's ways are not our ways! Yes, an unexpected door opened for us and we are happy 😊
@yosefmacgruber1920
@yosefmacgruber1920 Ай бұрын
@@SuzyRed6 So then, where did you move to? I think Panama might be overrated, as is Costa Rica, or maybe it is a bit too late to move to there? And why do so many people have cats? Dogs are more loyal. Is it for rodent control? Neither is a suitable replacement for the children that people are supposed to produce. Maybe I should choose a country to move to, that has minimal requirements or paperwork. Gee, isn't that what I am trying to get away from? All the stupid government bureaucracy? And I do not want to have to worry about all the taxation paperwork. Corrupt greedy so-called governments making us so unproductive.

Generally, yes, Belize is safe, though like anywhere there are parts where more crime occurs, most notably gang related activity in some areas of Belize City. In the areas where most expats choose to live, such as Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker, Corozal, Placencia, and the Cayo District, crime isn’t something you’ll need to worry about beyond taking normal safety precautions. You can read more on safety in Belize here on our website www.liveandinvestoverseas.com/in-focus-caribbean/is-belize-safe/

Albania sounds interesting, but I really am not too sure about Europe and I do not want to be close to Russia or China. Birthrate in Europe is way too low. Latin America seems safer, and it is convenient to have a similar time zone, especially if you are taking your American phone number with you via an internet phone.

Some 20,000 expats from all over in a city of about 140,000. --- A $290 / year visa fee @ any travel agent with no qualifications no visa runs & absolutely no BS !!!
