I'm with Martin on the acting/dialogue issue. It feels less intentional that the filmmaker is commenting on the camp of older films, but rather just not clever enough in addition to poor acting / directing the actors poorly. I enjoyed the experiment of the film, and it achieves a hall of fame kill worth seeing alone, but overall this was disappointing for me. Thanks for the review guys!

I thought the campfire scene was good. The dialogue is meant to be comedic I'm pretty sure. My friends and I were laughing throughout the whole movie. It is camp. The acting of the most important character (without spoilers) is actually good. I never judge the efficacy of a screenplay based on a handful of lines that sound bad. I think the physical acting is the standout here. From Johnny and again, that character. If they wanted to create a film that was more dialogue centric, they simply would not have made this one.

You guys talking about the killer's activation and just his physicality, how he's sneakily athletic and brolic for somebody who's been supposedly dead for years reminds me of two meta horrors that every slasher unknowingly references like it's a yu-gi-oh trap card. Cabin in the Woods because horror movies tend to have some talisman or some other thing to activate the horror and the Rise of Leslie Vernon a mockumentary style dark comedy following a mostly friendly serial killer which gives a very plausible explanation for why you can't get away from killers no matter how slow they might seem.

The thing with slasher movies are the tropes that make no sense. Martin hit the nail on the head when he criticized the victims' lack of self-preservation and simply cry or scream while the killer SLOWLY approaches. Another one is where, if a girl does move away, she always slips and falls and makes no effort to get up. At that point I root for the killer to get rid of the moron.

On the note of bad dialogue and bad acting: I see what Korey is saying, and what Martin is arguing. I haven't seen the movie, but 'm guessing if the movie is that brutally violent, and we are actually SEEING it, the bad dialogue is a both a nod AND *comedic relief*. I personally loved it besides the last 15 minutes of absolutely annoyance. However the switch of perspective is why they can get away with the cliches of other slasher films. It's making fun of those tropes. There's even a scene where the killer is walking closely to two characters arguing and the dialogue is connecting, but it cuts the camera to the killer being closer to them. It's playing on the trope of a killer teleporting. The dialogue was doing the same. It's almost like you're sympathizing with the killer to hack these fools.
@donovanbradford82316 ай бұрын
Yeah by the end I was yawning wondering is our final girl gonna live or die. The dialogue I think was trying to give like a possible explanation, but given our killer pulled himself out of the ground and another character admits he put this killer down once along with his dad in another point, the killer's a wrath just a vengeful spirit, nothing more.

I enjoyed the execution of this concept. I can't recommend it to people because it's so slow and plodding, but I liked that aspect and its commitment to the gag. Johnny is slow and steady and the movie is really about him and his commitment. Not the best movie I've seen this year, but the most original.

I also described it as a nice stroll 😂😂😂 some of those hikes in between looked so peaceful!

I can honestly accept slasher villains as exceptional antagonists if they are brand spanking new. Need to bring something new to the table of horror films.

I'm from Texas in fort Hood, I would love to sit in the studio and laugh it up with him, I'd rather go to a screening with him I'm just an hour away from Austin

This is a very tense conversation between you two, I can tell in voice tone and body language, as well as facial expression.

I think around the 18 minute mark the guys maybe couldn’t find the words that it’s important to this genre that the victims have bad dialogue and poor development because if we start liking them and identifying with them the movie becomes depressing which detracts from it being scary and fun.. annoying/amoral victims is key to the genre imo!

100% agree with Korey. Martin totally missed the mark on this movie. The movie Was very well done and very thoughtful for slasher fans.

Movie feels to me like I'm watching a friend play a third-person slasher game. But at least someone is doing something different for a slasher movie.

The ballon Animal kill would make Jason impressed or even jealous, he'd prob go practice on Tommy Jarvis.

I liked it, but not loved it. I think the slow pace following him from behind was good, but it seemed weird. I guess him waling through the woods, it wasn't as scary because he was following the path, so him meandering on the trail where it was easiest to walk seemed to lessen his scariness. It wasn't as menacing like Jason who is walking in a straight line to his victim. It's like, "I'm a relentless killer, but I don't want to walk through that poison ivy either."

I really enjoyed the movie. Must see for slasher fans. And appreciate the “auteur” take on a slasher. Usually in slashers it’s onto the next kill. I loved the campfire camera work. Nothing special but kept me on edge the whole time.

Shout out to Friday the 13th 3D. I also saw that is a crowded theater and had a blast! Lots of audience interaction.

I just got back from seeing. Probably one of the laziest slashers, but my man was brutal that edges passed Jason

I just watched "Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon", whitch is amazing btw. So, It does sound like this movie is a bit derivative. I have to give this movie some time before I watch it.

There's another movies called Lesley something it's a mocumentary were they follow the killer and interview him while he's preping to do kills and stuff he shows how they walk when your looking and run when your not and starts walking again when you do 😂😂😂 it's hilarious

The Poughkeepsie Tapes did this better. Especially in the documentary style.
