Quick tip: You can make MIDI tracks in Cubase, so you can load multiple instruments into one instance of Kontakt. So in stead of having something like 40 instances open at once, that number can be reduced to 4 or 5. You might already know this, but I'm tellin' you anyway

You'r so talented and brilliant!!! Why you change to CUBASE ? In our studio we have the latest Cubase Pro 9.5, but no one use it although everybody said they want to learning and change to use it aha. The musicians in our studio they using almost everything like Live\logic\Cakewalk\Protools\Fruityloops. Very intersting is that everybody said they want to Cubase but still not aha.

Ashton, first, I love what you do and explain on your knowledge of scoring. I wish I had all the libraries, but I'm still learning Kontakt 9 Ultimate and Logic Pro X. I haven't seen a video with Spitfire's Albion One. Have you done one? Also, I was thinking of getting Omnisphere 2, but there are so many sounds in Kontakt and LPX (which you don't use), I was saving for an orchestra library (Albion One), but there are so many and hard to choose. Is Omnisphere a must have library for orchestration? Thank you and hope to hear from you>

Hello Ashton! Wonderful music! Great video! In your 'Behind the Score' videos you give us some information about a composer, history of creating music and so on. Just wanted to ask is all that info from Wikipedia or you have some other sources?) And maybe you can recommend some books or websites about history of soundtrack and it's development in film production? Thanks a lot! OlhaPiano. (And recommendation about future videos are 'Divergent' series. There is an interesting combination of orchestra and electronic music.)

Hey Olha! Thanks for the kind words. I'm just now working on the next Behind the Score which will be covering the Maze Runner Franchise by John Paesano. After that, I'm deffinetely looking to get into more YA adaptions like The Hunger Games, and of course as you mentioned, Divergent. All the information I get usually comes from all over the place. I spend a few days on my initial research. Some of the main sources are the soundtrack booklet if there is one, the wiki page, the scoring sessions website (sometimes instrumentation isn't mentioned so you can find pictures to get a rough estimate), and most importantly the IMDB page. That will list any soloists if there are any as well. I'll attach a couple links. I deffinetely recommend watching as much composer interviews as possible, many times they will go into detail, and theres nowhere better to learn from than the masters themselves. Specifically Film Music Media. Hope that help! :) - Ash

Dancho Avramovski the only reverb I used is the Eventide Blackhole for the solo violin and whistling piano :)

Thank you for your reply ,Looks like it's a lovely reverb , that tail is awesome. I know you use Cubase now but if you have not checked the new Logic 10.4 update go and see what's new, they introduced Chroma reverb and it is absolutely fantastic one!

I believe the first one was the 6 string acoustic guitar from the stock Omnisphere pack. The second one was a patch from Colossus 2 from the Unfinished.

... also, how do you ensure the sounds from many different libraries sit well together - do you apply the same reverb across all tracks - or simply rely on the reverbs per sound?

Richard Bagley In this track, there’s actually no third party reverb at all besides the solo violin (blackhole). Everything is in its natural state. I sometimes do, but it’s all dependent on what they need. There’s no one rule, it’s all about doing what sounds good to you. You’ll notice if two libraries are clashing :)
