Angkor covers more than 400 square miles, an area considerably larger than New York City's five boroughs. What intrigues you the most about this amazing city?

I was in Angkor in April for 4 days. The architecture is really impressive, the mixture of very clear forms and artistic sculptures is intriguing. The fact that this site was suddenly abandoned makes it very mysterious.

It's the biggest Shiva Temple in the world accoding to Historian Shri P R Sarkar- It was called the Lokeshvara Temple in the ancient days when Kamboja was ruled by Indian Kings. When I visited Seam Reap over 15 years ago I was surprised to find Ganesh puja still practised throughout the this land..in hotels, households and even in Buddhist temples, there were statues of Ganesha .

If you visit hidden villages in the forests to talk to elders, and talk to the eldest monks in 2 of the oldest temples in Cambodia, you learn that no one was allowed to live in Angkor Wat. That is because Angkor Wat is where annual deities and spirits come to - what's known today - attend conferences/meetings. Even Kings weren't allowed to "live" or stay there. It was built as a place of decisions, ceremonies, and respect.

伊藤忠優夜 You are wrong. They allow people to live there. But don't allow more village to be built in the archaeological site. Those people can sell theirs but only for the local villages. Why they do like this? Because they need to protect the site. Almost the whole site are the secret things that been not discovered for details. Those were the hidden temples cities etc. The site is very huge that we never been imagined. Long ago there were many villages in near angkor wat angkor thom but the authorities had moved their villages to the new site in forest when Angkor archaeological park has registered as the UNESCO heritage site.
@baishechuan
@baishechuan 6 жыл бұрын
@@champaputih4568 Lol, I think you've misread. I meant back in the times when it was at its peak, and was in use - I'm being told it was a place for not just any kind of ceremony, or a resident for the Kings, etc. It was a site where deities and the like gathered. Not a resident for anyone. Not even the human King at the time. No one was allowed to live IN Angkor Wat. I believe it's the same case now. You can't sleep/live in Angkor Wat. This information was given to me from people in villages hidden in forests, far from the main roads, with no dirt roads leading to them so you have to walk for hours to get there. Not the villages in the vicinity of the temple ruins, who are of the younger generation Cambodians, who have access to electricity, and city water/wells. I'm referring to those who remain living deep from the civilization you're referring to. And not because of what you've mentioned, but because of what they had to go through during the last war. (Men were dragged and killed, their heads used as pot holders by the enemy. Women beaten, dragged, and raped in turn, in front of their family. The educated, targeted to be eradicated so the country wouldn't continue prospering at the quick rate that it was. And so much more. Tortured and killed, by certain groups of people who spoke khmer, & pretended to be Cambodian citizens. If you knew the full details to that, you'll understand why some who've survived and are still alive, afraid to come out.) The elderly people who I've talked to are those who escaped to live there, and who've "kan sul"-ed pram or higher. (If you're a Cambodian, you should know what it means. If you aren't, they are prohibited to lie, and must withhold other very strict rules & values.) The information I've received from them matches that of the higher monks in the 2 of Cambodia's oldest temples (Wat; not temples in the sense of "Prasat"/temple ruins). And any Cambodian knows real monks don't lie. It goes against their teaching to say things that are not true, and to take part in politics. Now, if you want to talk about present Cambodia, then the data you've presented is very interesting. (I hate delving into the dark portion of politics that's currently eating up Cambodia, but let me just say this, out of concern...) If what they've done so far (i.e. relocating some villagers too close to the temple ruins) was under the good intention to protect it, then why are there large buildings within the archeological sites? Whose heights are far above that which is allowed of other villagers' homes/buildings in the same area? Are you somehow implying it's the local villagers, who are allowed to live in the vicinity, responsible for building the grand - for profit - infrastructures within the "archeological sites"? The very same villagers who are barely making ends meet? I wonder if they're the same villagers who directed government buildings far from the city center so commercial business can take up their places. Why did they also have to rent off Cambodia's national treasures to non-Cambodians? Where's the money going to? Any tourists who've visited the main temple ruins/main attractions (e.g. Angkor Wat temple) will know how much of a ridiculous fee they had to pay just to be allowed to go in. Just to see a place stripped of so many beautiful carvings, and wall art, and etc. Why are artifacts still disappearing? Every person guarding the "archeological sites" know this, but are still too afraid to bring it to the public's eyes. You're smart. Why do you think it's so? And why are huge, healthy trees being documented as rotting so it must be cut down? And so much more, that is tmi & inappropriate to discuss here. Also, this may be presumptious of me to say, (and forgive me if I falsely assume so) but your name sounds very Cambodian. If you're not a Cambodian, then sorry too for taking your time on spreading awareness of Cambodia's current situation to the children of Cambodia. However, if you are, then listen up. You seem like a reasonable fellow. Study up and get to a position where you can save what's left of Cambodia's natural resources and wonders, and help strengthen the following generations to do the same. And when you've succeeded in doing so, don't forget to drop me a message & invite me over to the country, so I can see a restored Cambodia. Beautiful. And once again, back to its former glory. Until then, thanks for your time buddy.

Im American but my family is from Pakistan/north west India region, my people are the Kamboj from the Khemara clan of Rajouri...Cambodia people interest me due to the similarity of names, but it most be a coincidence as Cambodians are not Scythians/Sakas nor do you have traditions of being nomadic horse archer society, yet you seem to share ethnic names with us....Not only Kambuchea sounds like Kamboja but Khmer sounds like our other folk name the Khemara.

@Cheltook Tribe there is something twisted in your history book buddy. I am not claiming it shiva or budhist temple but The fact is Budha is known as incarnation of Vishnu and there are Vishnu carved under the rivers in combodia. Whith proper vishnu features. And No budha ever carved under water! So mainstream historians always twist history according to their need. But in case of indian history there are original sculpture and scriptures are available of related period. So solve the jigsaw puzzel you will get answer at the end. Budhism also preserved thousands of ancient scripts with hindus. Both survived together happily. ✌️

@Cheltook Tribe ok show me reality then. I want to learn from your view. Tell me where budha born and came. And why he is the only enlightened person. Why nobody before or after him enlightened. For Carbon Dating : which machine or technique can calculate exact age of rocks? Must answer me if you find it. The books you are reading are speculations only. People call indian history as Myth!! You are saying the same! And lord budha was also part of indian history. Means you are saying him a Myth too. "I am not claiming" that budha was vishnu's incarnation. I am claiming that vishnu's idols are found in these temples. With same stones same amount of erosion corrosion. Isnt it enough to claim that it was Vishnu temple!
