You are absolutely correct. I could expect a Lucknowi saying "fir" but, not a Hyderabadi saying anything other than "phir". A few years ago, Mr Javed Akhtar on this Rekhta platform laughingly said: He came across several children in Mumbai, telling him: "Zaved" Sir, aap hamare ghar "Jaroor" aana. Similarly, Telugu speaking news reporters in Hyderabad write: Sania "Mirja" and "Zaya" Prada regularly in their English publications.

I have listened Madonna listened anjilina jooli and listened to this Urdu speaking celebrity diya mirza the common factor amongst all three women was their confidence clarity of mind ease of self expression tremendous vocabulary and command on its use elevated and focused thinking very close to the intellectual and philosophical approach of conveying the topic they talked,I am proud having diya mirza and others like her in the most hostile environment of India and Pakistan for Urdu speaking people this gives me confidence and satisfaction that Urdu speaking society is still an agile vibrant pragmatic resilient and active part of the larger human society despite all odds and hindrances in their ways both in Pakistan and India!!

home atmosphere matters, then comes in children's school environment freinds and surrounding... even at our home books megazines, newspapers, all of that was inundated volumes, urdu, hindi punjabi english and then after that school college all of it seeps in...then ones own composition as growing human being evolvement growth especially mind brain growth .cultured good influences reamin with you, despite so many ups downs of life and whatever other things bad ugly might come and go...

یہ نام " دیا مرزا " نہیں ہے بلکہ "ضیاء مرزا" ہے۔ عربی کا تلفظ ہی اردو سے بالکل مختلف ہے۔ اس لیے انگریزی میں ' Dia ' لکھا گیا ہے، جس کی وجہ سے یہ تَذبذُب پیدا ہوا ہے۔ البتہ دونوں الفاظ کے معنی اتفاق سے ہندی اور عربی میں ایک ہی ہیں۔ معذرت کے ساتھ، چونکہ دونوں خواتین بھی اردو کے گہوارے (لکھنؤ اور حیدرآباد دکن) سے ہیں، اس لیے اصلی لفظ سے نا آشنا ہیں۔

@@irfact398 language and tehzib are synonym for each other both are a unitary force language makes tehzib and tehzib makes language both are interdependent both are complimentary and reciprocal look the difference between two languages and societies in Urdu people say pohnchi wahein pa khaak jahaun ka khameer ttha and in punjabi what they say!? they say jitthay di khouwti ouwtthay aan khhalouwti!!! So did you get it!? I think you got it very well!!

Love this discussion. However before asking poetry or shayri specific questions, Atika should have done her research. Dia is born to a Hindu Bengali mother and a German father. Her parents got divorced and her mother married a Muslim. Hence she doesn't have lineage of urdu poetry behind her.
