I was listening to “Up Front” this morning on WCLK 91.9FM in an interview they did with Louis Gosset, Jr. a couple months ago and it was truly powerful. It wasn’t just his words, but you could actually feel the power and energy of his message. He spoke a great deal about salvation and the honor of being servants and vessels in the world. Everyone should go the their station’s site and listen. This man’s career and accomplishments speak for themselves. One of the greatest ambassadors this world has ever seen. But his message on our greater purpose and responsibilities to our society speaks FAR GREATER VOLUMES. Truly an honor just to hear that interview and just wanted to give this man his flowers while he is still here with us. Only one Louis Gossett, Jr.

Louis Gossett Jr, extraordinary actor of "An officer and a Gentleman". Unforgettable! His performance was a masterpiece, as was the entire film, in which Taylor Hackford managed to unite the delicacy of poetry with military harshness. I would never have imagined that this could be possible.

I was his friend back in 1985. I attended his 49th birthday party. I was 24 years old. I held Lou Gossett Jr.'s academy award for best supporting actor, while sitting next to him on his sofa at his home on Bonsall Drive in Malibu where we watched "An Officer and a Gentleman," together. He had just bought a new 50" television and phoned to invite me over to watch a movie. I told him to pick the film and he did. He pulled out a VHS tape, and asked if I'd ever seen this particular film, to which I replied, 'No.' He asked if I knew who was in it, to which I replied, 'No." He pointed to the Oscar award sitting on the fireplace mantle and said, "That's mine. It's an Oscar. I won it for best supporting actor in this film." He slipped the movie in and I fell asleep halfway through it and regret having done that to this day. I think it's possible interested him in me was how little of him I knew. I was from a poor Polish family where there was never enough food and I never had very many toys as a child. It's funny how we think of no-names taking interest in celebrities for their money. I remember when I stepped into his home for his 49th birthday party and saw the Table Pac Man arcade game he had. I was a complete and total nobody, from Pasadena, California, living with my grandmother. There I was at the home of an academy award winning handsome celebrity, in the mix of his birthday party. My interest? I sat for hours at that table Pac Man game. I LOVED THAT GAME. From there, I moved on into his kitchen and discovered a "Stainless Steel Refrigerator." WOW! I'd never seen anything like it and immediately made a dash from the kitchen to the living room where all the party guests were gathered. I walked over to Lou and politely whispered, 'Oh my God, you have the coolest refrigerator I've ever seen. May I open it?' To which he whispered back, "You may not only open it but when you do, eat anything you want." I was in awe. I thanked him repeatedly and dashed back to his kitchen, swung that door open and could not believe that he had a cooked PRIME RIB in there and other amazing goodies. There I was in his kitchen alone, making myself a plate of Prime Rib. Therefore, when he bought the 50" television, he invited me over. Again, I was blown away. He took great delight in helping me relive my childhood. That's when I came to understand the term, "Star Presence." I am absolutely NOT someone who takes any remote interest in celebrities as many do. I'm thoroughly disinterested in the hype. I grew up with David Lee Roth, went out often with Brian Johnson of AC/DC having zero clue who he was but none of them had the energy, the electricity or "presence," of Lou Gossett Jr. He was extraordinary and amazing.

Louis Gossett Jr. has lived the life most black people face everyday of their lives. It proves that blacks have been profiled, stopped by police for no reason, leading the the message we are spreading after the death of George Floyd. He teaches us about understand. We need to take care of ourselves and one another better otherwise nobody's going to win anything. We need each other quite desperately for mutual salvation.

You cannot compare Mr. Gossett's being stopped to MOST "stops" this day in time! MOST people are stopped for a REASON, other than just being BLACK. I used to get stopped often, but MOSTLY for speeding. I KNEW i was speeding, so i ACCEPTED my ticket and went on about my business. To be honest, MOST times, i was just told to "slow down and drive safely". IF i lived in a DANGEROUS/HIGH CRIME area, STOP EVERYBODY as far as i'm concerned. I don't worry about the police....because i am not a CRIMINAL! Again, i have been stopped, in a high crime area....for no apparent reason. I was told they (police) had been cracking down on drugs and crime in the area. I had an attitude, but i DID NOT act a fool. I went on about my business to go do some illegal acts (SEX) in the park!
