Thanks for highlighting such an important craftsmanship which we will stop seeing in near future due to lack of investments and importance given by society -- and threatened by lure of excessive consumption of social media. Also, I have seen section of community who treat these people very disrespectfully considering them as lower caste. And then there are coward uneducated people from GenX and GenZ who imbibe those same sick thought they learned from their parents. I still can't believe we are playing the game of caste in the presence of living Buddha. Such a two headed, sick, coward, self-cherishing and self-entitled people in our society.

You are absolutely right yesyesyay. Artists are looked upon as low caste ( gara). That practice actually came from Hinduism where all the craftsmen and farmers and cattle breeders are considered low caste..My assumption is that Buddhism came into Tibet some twelve hundred years after the passing away of Buddha. This discrimination has nothing to do with Buddha's teachings. Because of such stupid baseless practises you will not find a single gold smith master in Dharamsala where during my childhood days there were about five great traditional arts and probably its the same else where. There is a colony in Dheradun called Lingtsang where almost every family members used to make the best Vajra, phurba and bell. Now its all Nepali artists who are practising. Thanks to them. Tibetan shoe craftsmanship is all on the brink of extinction...Such ignorant practices still continue.

If Gen Z and Gen X are still have that rotten mindset then it's ok...but one day they will face is dearth of income and food then only they will realise and they will be compelled to learn this art and realise their mistake. But I doubt they won't be able to imitate this great art as making such pieces of art is not a piece of cake at all...they will be Good for nothing. They might beg. Karma hits hard always😂

If you are not selfish and flowing HH Dalai Lama’s path, then you should share your knowledge to others too, otherwise this art will be despair from world.

What is more sad about is how the nepal government is creating Tibetan life more difficult by restricting them from getting a valid identification and revoking UN amendment for tibetan refugees. And the silience of the Himalayan people over it .
