What would be great is a tab by the side or if you were to call out the fret and the strings As you were playing them ,but great lesson dude , even though it’s 9 years old …

When i try these riffs, my b string is always left ringing... what are you doing to mute the strings after youve moved to the next string? thx in advance!

Can anyone tell me if this guitar has a lower-action or higher-action set up? When he plays, is he pushing down on the strings as if fretting, or is the slide just floating along the top? I've been getting better at slide, but I still end up with a large amount of side noise from clunking and scraping the frets and side of the neck. He makes it sound so clean. Wondering if my approach is off...

You would want higher action to reduce bumping the frets with the slide. Don't fret the strings with the slide, just put a slight amount of pressure to get clear notes. If you play a Strat/Tele or their copies set up so that the bridge saddle height follows the radius of the fretboard, you can try adjusting all of the saddles to the same height, which makes playing slide easier. Also mute the strings with your remaining fretting hand fingers and also apply palm muting. Besides all of that - practice, practice, practice...

Great advice, thanks!

Daniel Brophy for slide the string height on this style guitar is higher than normal. And no slide never frets a note, just slide over the string and remember to mute the strings behind the slide and playing had otherwise you'll get unwanted leftover sounds. Truth be told it all in the accuracy you develop in the muting.

Yes, think of it as the slide IS your fret, with infinitely variable positions along the neck.

Um, Andy DOESN'T make it sound clean, which is kind of the point of slide playing, in a way... it's sloppy, like sex. You can hear the fret noise and the clicks from the neck. Listen to Luther Dickenson, Ry Cooder, or a cat called Bill Sheffield out of Georgia, if'n you can find him... For the more discerning players, Sonny Landreth has lessons free on this-a-here youtube...The noise can be used as part of the style and what you want to get across. I grew up on Andy from the days of print magazines, and he's a great player and a fantastic teacher in that he engages us all to play more. That being said, go listen to the old timers. Slide guitar sound is not in the action or the strings or the guitar... It's in your hands. Keep playing, my brothers and sisters.
