In Defence of the Canon EOS 1D MK iiN in 2021

Getting out just after Sun Up @ Silly o'clock (05.30) to take shots with my new(old) toy.
Put on the 22-55mm to give a bit of width.
All shot at F9, ISO 640 to keep the speed up and test the sensor.
Needs a clean, job for later............

All cameras, from 35mm film to 50mp SLRs and mirrorless, take comparable images in the hands of a skilled photographer. More mp and bells an whistles don’t equate to better images, but so many people are obsessed with the newest available gear.

@@shishkebab-i4z I use many, and still, for kicks, use my 300D (Digital Rebel) purchased in 2003.

Absolutely right, just look at all the award winning images that were taken in the days of so called "bad digital cameras" that many now consider to be toys. They prove the point, it was (and it is) absolutely possible to take stunning images with lower spec gear... but camera companies desperately push he other agenda, thats the way they generate their sales and profit. I have not even touched on the VERY old gear that was used decades ago, almost pinhole cameras shooting photos we still use in photographic education because they are considered masterpieces that stood the test of time. Today most would laugh at what they used back then or happily throw away that gear without a second thought... whilst obviously lining up to buy the latest mirrorless bodies so they can feed their own GAS frenzy, which Nikon, Sony, Canon and all others are gaslighting....

Yes I agree you with. I am a pro & I first came across this particular body while photographing a football match in Milan in late 2005. The previous year I had invested in the 1D Mark II which was incredibly difficult due to raising the capital. When I came across this body I felt like giving up simply because I felt you can’t keep up with all these news bodies. I never did upgrade & stuck with the 1D Mark II. I use 1D Mark IV’s these days which I love.

I have a mint version with less than 6000 on the clock, but the SD slot has never worked.

ISO 640 is too high for this sensor. The noise is really bad. I'm not sure why you shot at f/9. I love the 1D Mk2 but you really need to use a tripod rather than go beyond ISO 400. None of your images really needed a small aperture or a fast shutter-speed.

Sharpness at f9 is gonna be better than most for many of the landscape shots

If you can't take great photos on this camera then you can't take great photos on any camera. The Athens Olympics were shot, professionally, almost exclusively on the 1D mk2. Good cameras don't become bad cameras just because new tech comes along. This is a $5,000 camera that now costs $250. Why wouldn't you buy one? It's a guaranteed modern classic for the price of a good evening out with the Wife.
