In Defense of Sigurd II VIKINGS

People love to hate Sigurd, but I think he’s just as important as his brothers. He was compassionate and honest. Even in voicing his resentments towards his father, but he practically had to raise himself. His resentment was valid. He was very observant, saw Ivar for what he truly was. He also had many great ideas (he was the one to first mention the idea of a great army.) And even in his death: he seemed more annoyed than anything lol. As if it was a mere inconvenience. That facial impression and that walk towards Ivar said nothing but an “Are you fucking kidding me?” Sigurd was just as complex as his brothers, he just didn’t get the time to truly showcase that.

I definitely agree Robin. Your last sentence sums it up perfectly. It will always baffle me when people hate on Sigurd cause he had a right to feel the way the did.

I agree...I actually found out recently...I'm related on my mothers side to Sigurd and therefore Ragnar...needless to say mind- blown!

Honestly, when he died I was a bit pissed cause I wanted to see him do more stuff (I mainly wanted to see more stuff cause I'm a descendant of him)

To be fair to sigurd, ivar started most of the arguments. Sigurd was mostly defending himself. But people ignored this simply because they were biased towards the fan favorite ivar

Sigurd was my favorite Ragnar son in beginning season 4b and he died after 10 episodes... Many peoples hate Sigurd and named him as a bully but he only defending himself, he was the one and only who has balls to put ivar on his place. After hes death i was thinking he comeback in season 5 or 6 with some mythical think with hes eye and defeat ivar but not, they just kill one of the promising charaсter, i think he would be goated warrior like Hwitserk and Rollo, worthy king attentive and clever. By the way in history he was one of the most succesful son of Ragnar P.S After Sigurd death my favorite character became Ubbe.

Well done, you’ve given some really valid points, I’ve always wondered what season 5 and 6 would have been like if Sigurd had survived and it’s good to see him getting some much needed attention. By the way if you get a chance in a later video could you elaborate on what Ragnar really meant to Ivar by saying “be ruthless” I would love to see what you think. Thanks so much for the feedback! I definitely plan on elaborating on what I said about Ragnar. It might take some time though because he really is a complex character; the devil truly is in the details with him and I want to make sure I word myself correctly and find evidence to back up my hypothesis. Plus, to be honest, I don't plan on making this channel solely about Vikings so I'd like to discuss a couple other topics first. But thanks again for the comment and for subscribing!

To be honest, i liked both ivar and sigurd. In fact, i can empathize with sigurd, i can understand his jeolusy, i understand his feeling of being distant. I know that feeling all too well. I can also empathize with ivar's need to prove himself, i tried to prove myself more than once so. You know

That's understandable. I also sympathized with Ivar throughout season 4. But I liked him a lot less after he killed Sigurd and season 5 made me really dislike him. I like that they both had things that made you want to sympathize with them, and I think it would've been interesting if Sigurd had stayed alive so we could see that dichotomy play out a little longer.

I think they wanted to show how ivar tolerates nothing from no one and they couldn't think of a character to sacrifice that would be significant also they must've had a hard thought about which brother to kill and I could only imagine they'd would have chosen hvitserk and sigurd on one note I'm sad that sigurd died on another I believe if it weren't him it would've been hvitserk because he had little character development and he wasn't a prophecised child like sigurd was and you raise so many good points in this video like the sentimental value sigurd held from caring about siggy and it is fucked bjorn didn't care, the point about ubbe telling ivar when he is wrong rather than peacekeeping I love this show but sigurds death is rubbish writing
