I've been skinny as fuck my entire life, and have tried to wear jeans like straight or loose fits that "hide" my figure, on top of working out to try to "bulk up." Not being able to gain weight or appearing "bigger" despite these efforts have been a major stressor in my life ... until one day I came across Hedi Slimane and his embrace of the true skinny mens fashion. I realized the philosophy of "working with what you got" and wear skinny jeans as a way to truly be true to myself. I will be wearing skinny jeans til death!!
@BraveNewWear3 жыл бұрын
Theres an interview where Hedi actually talks about being waifish as a young boy and feeling like he wasn't a real "man" and then as a designer he realized he could reimagine this standard and make skinny cool - so I think in a lot of ways the skinny jean was made for people like u

When a certain style gets oversaturated, things will swing in the opposite direction. Skinny jeans/pants have been around for a long time and won’t go anywhere. Trends will come and go but what matters is if you feel comfortable and confident in what you’re wearing.

Skinny jeans will always be in style for skinny people and the mainstream will still wear skinny jeans because it makes them look good, especially women, high waisted skinny jeans save many women tbh. With more y2k aesthetics popping up I can see skinny jeans not maybe being the most popular choice but they will still be there.

As a more athletic build guy I personally love that the trend is swinging more towards relaxed because I've got some THICC thighs and I find skinny pants too restrictive and makes my legs stick out way more than I want them too. I love the way relaxed fits drape and stack on top of each other. Ultimately I think it depends on your body type and what aesthetic you're going for. Like you mentioned, you dont have to stick to one thing, your choices aren't only relaxed or only skinny, you should drag and drop, mix things up, layer, and have fun doing it:) great video

Just looking at Celine FW 21 you can clearly see he's also really playing with the more oversized silhouette and weird furry boots with skinny jeans. Freeing ourselves from only skinny jeans everything has really given us the upportunity to wear them in different ways and styling them in a way that's edgy again.

I think what contributes to people straying away from skinny jeans is the over saturation of skinny jeans. Personally I started my fashion interest with skinny jeans because I wanted to show my sneakers more. Since that is my starting point me wearing skinny jeans inadvertently feels as if I am working backwards. There is nothing wrong with wearing skinny jeans whatsoever and I still will indulge from time to time but as my taste in clothing progresses I am picking and choosing what I think looks best for me and becoming more self aware of my own body proportions, skinny jeans (at least for me) are not what I think fits my frame all that well. I also believe that many others are realizing the same thing as well. As their taste progresses and consumers get to pick and choose what they like and dislike as trends come and go, the exploration of silhouettes has expanded what is seen as "fashionable" today whereas just about a decade ago, skinny jeans were the primary way of dress for "fashionable" people. Love your take on this topic, my friend.

Great video. Another thing I want to mention is that menswear doesn't have nearly as many options as womenswear for bottoms, so in my opinion skinnies should never be counted out just because they're out of vogue. If they are true to one's style then they are obviously still a great pick!

I had my time w the "skinny high point" culturally, end of HS/most of undergrad. I would describe most of what I wore to be on the "slim" side as opposed to the painted on style, which I didnt think looked good when I saw it on scene kids back in the day and I still dont find it flattering today (for me anyway). for me, drifting away from it centers on alot of broader body image stuff . part of my motivation at the time was definitely trying to fit a silhouette that hid alot of insecurities I was facing and compete(ugh) w much skinner guys who I felt were idealized physically at the time. in addition to getting stockier as I have aged, I thankfully have understood that non slim silhouettes can be cool and sexy too. though its in vogue currently, and that has some degree of influence subconsciously or otherwise, for me, wearing more straight leg/wider silhouette pants gives me more of a classic/timeless/mature feeling independent of trends that the skinnys dont atm. I do appreciate your comparison point to the mick jagger look and may give them another look in the contexts of glam/mod/"rentboy" informed looks that I definitely have interest in. I'll probably always have some kind of slimmer pant available for variety's sake end of the day, i just dont see them dominating my closet like they did at this point in time.

for me skinny jeans was just the medium for me at that point which made me realise what and how I wanted to accentuate my legs and figure. I always wanted a tapered fit cos I used to have to wear trousers that were unflattering to my body type (school/work) - extremely loose, too much cinching on the rise and waist, too long, basically clothes that were uncomfortable and did not fit my proportions well. wearing clothes like that made me feel self-conscious and dysmorphic. too many breakdowns in the department store's changing room lol. then I learned how to dress for my body type and that changed everything for me. now I rly enjoy wearing a variety of fits from tapered to loose and flares. I gravitate more straight and looser cuts nowadays cos its so versatile. I dont really wear skinny or slim fit anymore cos of my big thighs and legs. Although I do bust out the ol skinny jeans now and then for some rockstar looks and heels, or some experimentation. Oh and of course the power of thrifting and TAILORING your clothes made me more comfortable and happy with myself. its so fun to create fits now

Hello Christian once again, awesome video. For me, the only time wearing skinny jeans is considered OKAY is when I am going for the COWBOY aesthetic. It depends on your body type/proportions really. Some people can wear them well, some can't. I like how clean skinny jeans look because they usually don't have a break and wrinkles, but I can't wear them well because my legs are too skinny, so it makes me look skinnier than I actually am. It also makes my feet seem huge with most shoes personally. I switched to slim jeans as a result and I think my proportions look better with it from my experience. You can rock them well because you got the legs for it lol. Just wear what you like and what you think makes you look good at the end of the day.

The relaxed fit is definitely going to look corny like you said. Like it emerged as a rejection of skinny jeans, yet skinny jeans will still always be relevant because they are a flattering piece that doesn't have a strong lenient in terms of style themselves (very good foundation piece). While that wide fit acts as a statement- it’s too overpowering and a bit of an eye sore with the whole outfit template it has caused, but to each their own.
