Hey James, Same questions for you: How is it holding up? What's the current mileage, large mechanical replacements needed, and overall build quality lasting. How well do the ventilated seats work? I have wanted them for over 4 years now. Do they pump out good flow, or is it stale air and weak? Do you have the exact same year/make/model? Those are all the questions I have right now, Thanks! --Archer

@@sterlingarcher2107 Got it with the hemi at 86k miles, had an issue of engine shutoff with sudden braking. Replaced the TIPM under warranty and totally fixed the problem. 126k needed a driver headlight assembly replacement for broken seals that blew out bulb + ballast with water leaks. Only mechanical issues I've had other than usual maintenance. As far as quality, the leather dash was already peeled back but this past summer a lot of the wood trim popped off in the heat. Some black stuff has come through the vents when I blast it on high, common issue with higher mileage. Ventilated seats work great. Hope that helps.

I had a 2012 Overland Summit in Rugged Brown. I traded it in about 6 years ago and have regretted it ever since. I am currently looking for another one. If I can find one in the same color I had with decent miles I will scoop it up and keep it forever.

28:48 I just inherited my uncle’s 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland this year, and it actually makes a lot of noise even just at 2,000RPM+, but it might be because of the aftermarket air intake from Mopar. But I still love it even if it’s loud and all around. It’s quite literally a cheap luxury car.

My 2011 has about 94,000 miles and is going strong! The 360 HP V-8 Hemi comes in handy here on Texas 130 where the speed limit was 85 mph on our trip around Austin to San Antonio, It's a Mercedes on the cheap according to some sources. The tech on this vehicle is basically comparable to 2024 models.

I agree Nate, I've always preferred this first generation, there is something about the look, people always comment on them to me how handsome they look. I own an '11 Overland Summit and '13 Overland, I may have a problem ha but they are holding up well, the suspension always worried me long term. Both have the V6 but they are actually more reliable than the V8. I had a '12 Hemi V8 and had so many issues with the MDS.

The air ride suspension on the earlier models will have to be serviced. I noticed that's a common issue.

i one a 2013 GC overland, to answer your questions, yes the 5.7 hemi has held up incredibly and I just hit 80k miles without any problems. The air suspension on the other hand has been not so great, alot of the times after being parked for a few hours the car is at a rlly awkward angle even while driving, but when parked its worse, its like the front suspension is at the lowest position possible, but the rear is at its highest, I am not sure why, I got this car as a hand me down when my sister moved for college and I havent asked my dad about it. THis also causes an issue where if you dont give the suspension enough time (4-7 minutes after startup) to rise up and you drive off, your whole car starts bouncing up and down as you drive but it goes away after a few minutes but still kinda embarrassing, this is also where the Remote Start comes in handy. Some other problems are the wood trim peeling and falling right off which has happened on all panels where it has trim and it looks horrendous and mismatched and another thing is a peeling leather dash, which is so bad and so common with the GC that jeep even had to issue a recall, but I was unaware of the recall at the time at the time it was in effect. A part from these issues, it is awesome to drive, especially bc of the Hemi, the interior is really nice with the Brown leather, heated and colled seats, heated steering wheels, its so luxurious for its time and so many safety features too. the looks are also really modern as well.

I have a Black 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited and I have all the toys and things the Overland’s have inside and out but just not the Air suspension witch I didn’t care to have! I have the luxury package and it’s so nice and comfortable inside! Over time I changed the intake to K&N cold air intake and changed the exhaust to Corsa and now with the K&N and Corsa exhaust I’ve gotten more power more MPG and more torque and better breathing air through! It’s a beats with the 5.7 hemi! And I changed the rims to OEWEEL and thay look cool with 20inch. The one thing that my Jeep has that no one has is I put lights inside my grill that shine and light up the whole inside of the grill at night so u don’t just see head lights coming towards u but a grill that’s all lighted up like it has a mouth eating all of its competition out there!

I have a 2012 Summit with 170000 miles on it. The air suspension went out at about 150000 miles and I replaced it with a spring conversion kit and put a cold air intake on the hemi and I have had few problems sense. I love the car and think it handles much better with the stiffer springs. If anyone is interested I am selling this car and down sizing to a sedan. I have taken proper care of this car and it is amazing to drive. I have also replaced the radiator for something more beefy and the hemi runs very smoothly.

I have a 13 Overland and it has this same interior. The only difference I noticed was you have different mats, with the brown around the border of the mat..the Grill, and the foglight surrounds being chrome. I'm going to get the chrome bezels too but not the grill. Thinking of swapping to a 2014 grill with the inlay'd paint, FYI The "Haul/Tow" mode is also good for driving in the mountains, limits trans shifting to keep the trans from overheating.

Appreciate that John! Nothing I do professionally, just a car enthusiast who also enjoys making videos. Glad you found the video useful and wish you the best in your vehicle search! Through the years I’ve owned two WK2s, this 2011 and a 2015 and both were very reliable. While the 2015 did have the newer interior and 8 speed ZF transmission, my wife and I both preferred the 2011. It seemed to have more interior space and better ride quality. Both had air suspension, the 2015 just felt firmer.

We have owned 2 of the WK2 Jeep's, with a total of ~120k miles driven during our ownership period and neither had any major issues. The only thing that failed on each was the water pump (weaping coolant) but it appears that was a common weak point on the 5.7L. Thanks again!

@ApexReviewsOfficial
@ApexReviewsOfficial 9 жыл бұрын
TrendyCaliOG Hello! Thanks for watching the video on our Grand Cherokee! As far as this being a first car, its foundation is great. It's a 4WD, safe and well built SUV. However, with this being the Overland Summit it does have some fairly expensive (and useful) features that are great when they work, but not so great if they were to break. For example, some of the Grand Cherokees have Quadra-Life air suspension. It's a great system and makes for a great ride, however, each tire has a spring/shock assembly that costs over $1,200 a piece. If one goes out, that is a large cost compared to the $200 a normal shock may cost. We did have one of our headlights go out and because they're HID the bulb itself was ~$280 without installation (requires the front bumper to be removed). I guess what I'm trying to get at is the cost of ownership on this model is higher than the Laredo or Limited models (some Limiteds have QL), so you will have to budget for some potentially expensive repairs. If I were you, I would spring for a nicely loaded Limited and wait on the Overland or Overland Summit until you have a higher income. However, you might be fairly well-off and the repair bills may not matter. In that instance, you only live once so why not buy the Overland :)

Hi Joseph. I believe I mentioned in the video that the Saddle Nappa leather interior was exclusive to the Summit, but it's not. You have a Overland trim, that wasn't equipped with the Summit Package. You would have similar rims but they wouldn't be chromed, the grill inserts would be black and you wouldn't have the summit stitching on the button of your overland logo of the seats (or trunk badge). You can refer to www.wk2jeeps.com/wk2_overland_summit.htm to see exact details about the summit package. Also, your window sticker would show the package add on. I believe its around $4,750-$5,500 dollars. Take care!

This is the exact car I am looking for , this or a 2012, if anyone knows which year is preferable,(and why) let me know, but one thing for sure, there are not many of these around. I live in South Florida and the closest one was in Wesley Chapel, Fl. which is the other side of the state, after that I think the closest one was in Virginia. anyway congrats to you, this is a great machine.

+Gamingtaco is it cold where you live? I had our QuadraLift act up once when it was extemely cold out here in Michigan but it quickly fixed itself once I put it in the garage amd heated it up. Apparently ice can form on the sensors in the wheel well and cause the system to default to a fail safe mode.

Hey great review man! Exactly what I was looking for. Amazing the review is helping me out 6 years after you posted it. I am going to look at one soon and have some questions: How is it holding up? What's the current mileage, large mechanical replacements needed, and overall build quality lasting. How well do the ventilated seats work? I have wanted them for over 4 years now. Do they pump out good flow, or is it stale air and weak? Those are all the questions I have right now, Thank again! --Archer

Sterling, thank you for watching! I'm glad this video was helpful for you! We have actually sold this Grand Cherokee (GC) , but we did drive it for ~75,000 miles and I'd be happy to give you a high level overview of our experience. Overall the GC was a great vehicle for our family and it gave us minimal issues over the 4 years we owned it. As you could see in the video, it had ~70,000 miles at the time of filming and we sold it private party with 145,000 miles. Over this duration the only mechanical issue we had was a failed water pump which was covered on the 5 year/100,000 miles powertrain warranty. Note that this warranty was only offered until 2015, and then dropped for 2016+ units. I had simply noticed the small coolant leak when I was refilling the windshield washer fluid and took it in for repair. It never left us stranded or anything of the sort. Right before the 100,000 warranty expired, we took it in for a full inspection and they found a small leak in the exhaust manifold and replaced that free of charge under warranty. Other than those two issues, it was trouble free over the duration of our ownership. The towing capability of the 5.7 served our needs quite well, it was very smooth on the expressway, and returned respectable fuel economy. We had actually sold this and purchased a 2015 Summit, and found that we enjoyed the 2011 MORE than the 2015 as we felt the build quality actually went down a couple notches. Additionally, we preferred the overall layout of the 2011-2013 interior as the dash was a bit further forward and gave the cabin a more spacious feeling. To answer your question on the ventilated seats, they work fine for what they are. We personally didn't use them very often as the camel interior didn't get too hot in the summer heat. I also found the seats to feel kind of "odd" when ventilation was on. It almost had a feeling like a had wet pants on as your rear end feels cool but the rest of your leg is warm. Hard to explain really! I also wanted to note that the we found the heated seats to be lacking a bit. It would take quite a while for them to heat up, which was odd since the heated steering wheel would heat in ~30 seconds. Please excuse the long response. I hope you found this feedback somewhat helpful. Best of luck in your search for a new GC! I'm sure you're going to love it. Regards, Apex Reviews

I have owned my 2011 Grand Cherokee Laredo (3.6L w/177K) for 2 years,, not as many features as the Summit. I have had spent approximately $5K in repairs (T-case, all 4 blendoor valves, HVAC fan & module, rear diff. pinion seal and a couple other repairs that I’m unable to recall to list). It is a lovely vehicle & it does ride nice (shocks & brakes are still good). Looking at it in a philosophical view, it’s cheaper to hang on to it for a while longer & hopefully I’ll have no more major repairs than to pay $30K-$50K for something newer.

That’s not terrible considering the mileage. I’ve learned that these are very sensitive to not have fluids changed regularly. I changed all fluids every 24k - 30k with mopar fluids. Other than that I’ve replaced a blend door, blower motor, condenser, windshield cowl (rubber windshield seal was drying out), and the driveshaft that I destroyed when I bottomed out.

I would def upgrade the engine oil cooler housing with the newer 2014+ design. You’ll have to use a 2014+ oil filter, but it doesn’t have the wear defect the older design has.
@kennethmelnychuk9737

@@Cleaning_Hero: thank you for the suggestion. Ironically my oil cooler is leaking and I’m considering replace it in the future with an all metal oil cooler (after market). However what is most important right now is to repair the notorious ticking sound coming from the engine. I’m quite certain that there are failed rocker arm bearings but I won’t know how many until the heads are removed. Hopefully, the camshaft lobes and the lifters are ok, otherwise I’ll have to pour even more money to get it resolved (and it’s becoming quite a piss off). Also as an update, I’m having all of the struts/shocks replaced soon (putting in Bildsteins). I have also had the computer module replaced (TWICE, good thing the second computer module was still under warranty) as well as the alternator) got replaced. As well as the manual door lock needs repair/replacement too.

I have one question Does the trim level/style matter when it comes to the V6 engine? I’ve seen 3.6, 3.6vvt and the older looking V6.
@ApexReviewsOfficial
@ApexReviewsOfficial 5 жыл бұрын
Paul, the 3.6L V6 is the same between all WK2 Grand Cherokees from 2011-2015. From 2016 forward, the engine saw some minor revisions and the addition of auto start/stop technology. I've personally driven a Grand Cherokee with the V6, and for a majority of people, it offers a great mix of power and efficiency.

sold on this! recently moved to the countryside of Australia, requires a beefy vehicle with a beefy motor and some damn luxury, seems like this has it all at a great price. Do you know much about the v6 3.0 diesel? we have that in Australia, probably the better option in terms of fuel economy / towing

cizlol I'm glad you like my video! This WK2 has been a very reliable vehicle for our family, I'm sure you will love it! I can't comment on the 3.0L Diesel as they are not available in the US. We would LOVE to have that engine, so if you can source that in Australia I would definitely go that route. This 5.7L Hemi gets about 18-19 MPG on the expressway at 73-75 mph.

question for you my friend. I have been reading that jeeps (all models 2011 -12) have been having issues with starting and the fuel pump, and stalling while driving. it is caused by the TIPM “Totally Integrated Power Module" failing. has this happened to you?? i am really worried about this. have you heard anything about this? google search if it need be. (there are some videos on youtube as well complaing of this) pleased help
@ApexReviewsOfficial
@ApexReviewsOfficial 9 жыл бұрын
Hi Nate. There was a recall for the TIPM failing in the WK2 Grand Cherokees. Mine was included in the recall and at first I ignored it as the Jeep wasn't having any problems. However, about a month ago the Jeep stalled at a stop light (as if it ran out of gas), but started back up with one try. Then about a week later it didn't want to start in the driveway. I called the dealer, had the recall performed and it's been great ever since.
