Hey everyone, Justin here for a new series I'm testing on the channel called In-depth Deck-building. In this series, we build a deck and discuss everything in detail. Let me know if you like this series and want to see more in the comments!
In this entry into the series, we're building a Flex Joe Diamond deck. So let's have a hunch and get a bit flex-y!

LOVE THESE. I go to you guys to get ideas for combos and synergies. I'm less into "successful" decks and WAY more into in playing an involved and interesting deck. I love the game, but I our group play campaigns and we don't get together to do so often. So when i do, I want it to not be straightforward/boring. Love it whenever I can provide ways for us to manipulate the game itself and not feel like we're being totally controlled/reacting the entire time. (Certainly, we expect a lot of that. We enjoy that.) But I like to feel like I'm doing something about it, creatively.

This is great! Loved the idea of this series. And I would love to see Bryn and Travis doing some of those. Heck, Bryn's could be a special series in itself.

I enjoyed this video, and appreciate the insight on Joe Diamond. Please make more. I’d like to see a video featuring Travis. Maybe he could show us how to build a good Carolyn or Norman deck.

You should definitely continue this series and get Travis and Bryn to join (don't let it die like a deck doctor series). As for other content creators i belive that you had Quick Learner on for your Blob patreon video - he would be a great guest. And you should definatly consider publishing decks on arkham db - either your starter decks from the videos you made for each investigator, or for your most meme or powerfull decks from the streams (hell, do both - people are gonna love ya).

would love to see the three of you build the same character and role to see how you build differently! maybe with a discussion of the differences. has to be a character that can be built differently enough i guess. but that would be interesting!

Love the idea, especially around some of the more non-traditional investigators (e.g., Patrice, Preston, or other who change the core play). Would also be interested in seeing an "Investigator Two Ways" deep dive: what does Winnifred (as an example) look like as a cluever vs. enemy manager?

Really like the idea and the video, the only thing I might add/change is make it a little bit more new player friendly, not a massive thing, but in this bit I would have explained what the actual hunch deck mechanic is and does and also pause on some of the cards for a second or so longer so it's easier to pause the video and read them. There was a couple of times where it was a bit fast to do so , so I ended up opening Arkhamdb and following along that way on the cards ( which might also be a suggestion to put at the start for new players as well.

Thanks for this. As someone who came to Arkham Horror from board games rather than CCGs, deck building is a week area. I've learned a lot from seeing the decks others build and play but hearing the logic behind their decisions is invaluable. I hope you keep this series up!

i built a flex joe deck recently playing through edge of the earth with my table. i stuck mainly to the tools that boost stats, Hawk Eye camera and Dissection tools. they both get evidence when youre doing your flex things and when youre on a location with someone helping them do their thing. i also had a microscope as the last tool and had tinkers in my hunch deck to make the tools take fewer hand slots. for weapons i only had the detectives colts and two enchanted blades but combined with micheal leigh thats more than enough to handle the smaller enemies. i even upgraded the enchanted blades to brands of cthuga so they stopped taking hand slots. for my mythos protection i ran tooth of etzli and since im getting +1 to a defensive stat anyway from the tools the tooth is super reliable. with micheal leigh, the two tools, tooth of etzli and scientific theory i was basically running a 4/7/7/4 investigator. i went charisma and dr milan to juice up the economy since im running so many expensive assets. i also had great use with hand eye coordination in the hunch deck. i just use it whenever it shows up to microscope investigation, or kill enemies. the super high stats really helped protect the normally squishy joe and having both milan and micheal for soak kept me safe in a lot of situations. the high stats also combo well with the upgraded practiced skills. the hemlock cards added a lot to joe. tinker gives him hand slots to run kinda sub optimal tools and microscope combos well with his flex play style and hand eye coordination makes the microscope action even better.

I didn’t click at first, since Joe Diamond wasn’t on my radar yet. Once I started listening I was very glad for the content. Maybe a tweak in the title would tell me “In-depth deck building a great flex, featuring Joe Diamond.” I also really enjoyed your quick comparison of the pros and cons of “Burning the midnight oil” vs “Crack the case.” That could either be a regular part of these or its own series, as part of deck doctoring. Thorough inquiry vs Deep knowledge. British bulldog vs Ornate bow for flex Winnifred. Even reviewing five Joe Diamond decks from patrons or from published decks on Arkhamdb and talking about your preferences and deck building logic for a specific situation is exactly what I’d love to hear from you. Even though I’m not planning to run Joe soon, this video is super helpful for talking through your card selections based on a specific case-the specific case matters less than modeling the process.

Love the new format. Moar plz ;-) I realise you play 3 player but I am presently being eaten alive by Brown Jenkins and Co in my true-solo blind TCU run and I am curious why you didn't discuss protection cards like Guts given how weak minded (and clumsy) Joe is. Cheers.

Appreciate this. Consistent Necklace/Event Wendy Adams. (Flex) I think this would provide some facinating thoughts on how each card is selected

We recently completed RtTCU on Hard with similarish Joe, but the main thing was utilizing cleaning kit for both his colts and FPK. Throwing Tinker in the hunch deck was also really good since he had a total of 6 targets to just make slotless free and fast (Magnifying glass, FPK, Cleaning Kits). Another reason for me picking the kit was it basically increasing the value of upgraded cards like FPK (4) and returning more expensive events from discard with colts kills, like cryptic research. Overall it felt super smooth and strong.

I love the idea of this series! I'm playing through TCU with Joe and Jacqueline currently. My Joe deck is pretty flexy, with the concept of "one gun Joe". The only true weapon in the deck is the 1911's, supplemented by One in the Chamber, Extra Ammunition, and Prepared for the Worst. Standard clue package of Milan/ Fingerprint Kit/ Magnifying glass. And then lots of card draw packed into the insight deck. I also threw in handcuffs and interrogate for fun shenanigans (that honestly haven't paid off yet, but I'm holding out for the dream!)

I am about to take Joe Diamond out for a game today, so very curious to see how my build does. Might have to take your video into consideration for future play throughs. Would love to see more videos in this vein, especially for investigators with more complicated mechanics.

@@Chappykinz they should, yes, but ArkhamDB just throws all insights into the hunch deck when you're building it.
