We loved the program as well. I did use the teacher guide and it was amazing. Basically I followed the flow of discussing the vocabulary words then reading the story and follow by the questions they provided (not all) and did many of the activities. We really enjoyed it. I plan to use it with my younger two kids.

@thepracticalhomeschooler11 ай бұрын
Once they got past 1st grade and could read fluently we didn’t really use Abeka readers anymore for any of them. I used to have the Abeka readers for 2nd grade but my older 2 didn’t like them (there was nothing wrong with them they just wanted to read their own things). I will say, my daughter who is in 2nd now actually asked to do the Abeka readers for 2nd grade this year because she really loved the ones from last year, but I’m glad we went the BJU (I pulled rank on that one lol). She LOVES the reading and although she doesn’t love every page of the activity book, she still enjoys it overall and it has been good practice. I personally like the BJU readers better only for a visual standpoint…they change up what the illustrations look like to keep it feeling like you’re reading different books all of the time, whereas Abeka, they mostly all look the same. But at the end of the day, Abeka is still really solid and they both will get the job done.

If anyone can answer: I'll be a first-time homeschooler on the fall with 2nd and 6th graders. Thank you so much for this flip thru! My question: i am a busy stay at home mom, with another younger child who will still attend a private school... how heavy is the "teacher/ parent" involvement for BJU? i want to be involved, but i also cannot be tied down for hours on end. Thanks!

I love this! We do the good and the beautiful language arts but i'd love to add this. I'm just not sure how to do that without overwhelming my daughter though.

We don’t do TGTB reading, this is her reading. And many of the comprehension pages for the BJU reading book I do orally with my daughter. She mainly does the other ones (phonics, etc) by herself. But I find that helps it feel like there is not so much on her plate

Definitely considering using this with my youngest, he is only 3 right now, but it’s in my top 3 for him. I am planning, as of now to not really focus on grammar until 3rd grade. I’ve been reading that students can easily “catch up” with grammar and I plan to make sure that the reading and comprehension is solid before introducing grammar. I would use this as a language arts for 2nd graders. Maybe have them write in a daily journal as well. And continue reading aloud many other books. Between science and history added on as well, I think this would be plenty.
@thepracticalhomeschooler11 ай бұрын
It definitely would be!
