Dear Bill , can you kindly from now one post the link to Alibaba supplier of all these PC cases, so that finally we can get case manufacturers step up the game into selling decent quality stuff instead of this usual Chinese 20 dollars cases that are marked up one million percent?!...please do not get me wrong,,,Case manufacturers do need to be profitable and what they mark up as long as it sells it is fine...but what is not fine is that they selling the same stuff over and over and over for years now...while i think they should be at least 10 years or more ahead in pc case design and quality and features...why do we still need to see 1980 paint, 1980 steel and 1980s plastic? why do we have to be pushed 20 30 dollars stuff at appalling prices that is obsolete even before it is manufactured?!...please if you do want to wish to make cases become better just post the ALIBABA link for these cases that are sold there so case manufacturers will move on into making something new and better that suits contemporary computers rather than end of 1900s ones

Is the top vent wider than the R5? I had to give up trying to place my Corsair H110i cpu cooler radiator/fans up their because the top heatsync of my motherboard stuck out to much. This is the case I'll be using for my new PC in the next month or so. I'll be going with the solid side case because I can't see the sides of my PC where it's located and I'd rather have the extra sound deadening. I very much appreciate that it includes a decent cooling solution with quality fans. Between that and the features to make it as easy as possible to do a good build, it's really not that hard to justify the cost. I especially appreciate the lack of RGB lighting. Count me as somebody who wants their PC to call as little attention to itself as possible. Having access to an optical drive is still something I want, but having it out of sight when not loading or unloading a disk is a really nice design.

The only thing I dislike is that there is only a single 5.25 inch bay. A customer of mine ordered a system with optical drive + cardreader. I've solved it by using a Icy Dock MB343SPO, fitted with a 3.5 inch cardreader and a slim line slot load optical, but it drove up the cost of the build (slot load slimline drives are getting rare and are a lot more expensive than regular slimline drives nowadays, but the slimlines that have a tray don't have the feel of quality I strive for in my builds).

"You really don't get any airflow when you have the top metal cover on". But is it manageable as an exhaust option with 1/2/3 fans if keeping the metal cover on for an airflow-silence balance? I can't notice how much of a gap there is between the metal cover and the chassis.

You can still put in two 3.5" drives on the back of the plate if you move back/remove the drive sledges. Also i think there are twelve slots for harddrive sledges, not eleven. You can fit eleven 3.5", but between the two bottom ones you can slide in another one for a 2.5" making it twelve in total.

I like the idea of 1- 5.25 bay just in case, the way the tempered glass panel is attached and so many other things. What needs to be changed IMO is they should've kept the fan speed controller switch on the front and already included the front panel type c instead of using the R5 front panel connections. On top of the case I would've liked to have seen just the solid moduvent cover but a magnetic full length dust cover that came with the gold and white fractal design R5 anniversary or whatever edition that one was. And of course it goes without saying about that shroud thumbscrewed instead of rivets as well as including that other panel for the shroud.

1 thing I wish reviewers would do more is mount some radiators with fittings just to get an idea of how the case fills up with those components. I know the manual shows what radiators can fit where but it is hard to visualize some of the combinations form the spec sheets. I would love to do a dual 360 but it seems like the end tanks may get in the way and cause clearance issues depending on fitting placement. But this was a very good in-depth review and being a month after launch I dont have much hope for it getting cleared up.

I know at least with HP's and the like they can be quite the pain to put back on.

For the psu shroud area, it seems like its the same as the ones in the meshify/define C cases so maybe the part that fits into the front of the shroud on them might fit this one as well? @@MaxellAdGuy Thanks for your response Bill. 2020 . . . well, I may have to bight the bullet and get the R6. Such a bloody shame they felt the need to make that PSU shroud non-removable as I have a lovely Seasonic Titanium to show off - as would many others I'd imagine. Why hide such a great bit of kit? Just beggars belief! I hope they are reconsidering this. If they can't make it non-removable for some reason then a 'cut-out' enough to show off the PSU would be great. The rest of the case is fantastic.

I don't get why they went for a top 5.25' drive bay. It prevents installation of a 360 radiator in both the front and the back. Do you think its feasable to turn the front 180deg so that the bay is on the bottom? Most of the front looks rather symmetrical. I believe the main issue would be the cutout in the plastic door part for the IO port block.
@stevenkingston69777 жыл бұрын
Not sure about this case the R5 has 3 modu vents so you don't have to have the whole top open if you want to put 1 fan in the top, the drive caddies are removable and movable in the R5, although the R6 does have some neat solutions. I cant work out how you control the 3 pin fan hub. PWM 4 pin hub goes to the Mobo cpu fan pins and controls all the 4 pin fans. I looked at the instructions online! but where is the speed switch for the 3 pin fans its not on the front like the R5. The solid side version don't have the side fan vent like the R5 either. You cant put a 140mm fan in the rear like the R5 either On the plus side it looks great, I like the PSu shrouds HD covers and the tempered glass. I'm going to buy either the R5 or the R6 I am just not sure which.

The 5" mount is "fun....I guess"....? I can't EVER run a half decent PC without access to a cd-rom drive. Not everyone has every single thing they've ever done on a PC backed up on a hard disk (and that's a pretty stupid idea to anyway), plus the ability to chuck a music CD on while you're doing stuff on PC, plus some of my older games always want to read off the cd/dvd disc itself before they will even start. Steam is not the be-all and end-all of games - and neither is any other digital copy. Tons of games I will always want to actually OWN (as opposed to rent from Valve (read your SSA if you think you own your Steam games). Plus borrowed media on a disc, plus many other reasons - don't be so quick to laugh off the inclusion of what is still an essential part of any *practical* PC build.

Thank you for your kind words and watching David. You could go with 280mm radiator in front and still use the 5.25 bay. If you want 360mm in front, the radiator will block the 5.25. Bill that was a great review! How is the airflow in that case with the solid front panel? I currently have a NZXT H440 with a rad in front and rad on top and airflow sucks big time. I’m trying to decide if I want to do your airflow mod to my case or upgrade to the R6. Would it be significantly better than what I have?
@MaxellAdGuy6 жыл бұрын
The R6 would be "slightly" better, it has bottom opening, and vents on BOTH sides, versus the NZXT H440 bezel has bottom opening too, but only has vents on right side. ........Record your temps with and without the front bezel on, Do you see significant difference in temps and performance without the bezel on? If so, you may consider performing the bezel mod for more airflow.... I can't say the R6 will yield better or worse results for your individual configuration. Everyone's system and environment is different.

Would i be able to mount a larger gpu vertically? I have an msi rtx 2080 super gaming x trio. It appears I will most certainly need to remove hard drive mounting plate but im more worried about gpu thickness as i dont want it to hit the front glass.
@MaxellAdGuy5 жыл бұрын
space wont be issue, but mounting that beastly GPU alongside tempered glass is going to effect airflow performance in this case.

I got it from SCAN as soon as it was in stock as far as i can tell. Ive been moding the hell out of my 750D but this thing has design features i was basically driving towards, like the case door i replaced with a clear acyllic sheet with magnetic strips for a super clean look and ease of taking it off, but the R6 just craps on it, i just had to buy it. Its perfect. Still waiting on the Primochill Vue fluid to hit the shores of the UK too to really set the build off. Anyway im getting over excited again, I'll TWEET it if it all works out lol

Watch out, I've been warned by my fellow online retailers to stay away from PRIMOCHILL VUE. It's clogging and separating in customer loops. You'll find photo evidence online posted by people in community forums as well.

Thanks for the reply. However, I can't find my answer on that page. In the R6 manual, page 27, for open layout, it suggests you can put two 140mm fans in the front. However, it appears that there's room for one more. I've emailed Fractal and hope to get an answer soon. Another problem (at least for me) is that the link you provided states the case has 3 pin fan connectors. Does that mean I can only buy fans with 3 pin connectors? Obviously, I'm not very knowledgeable. Thanks.
@MaxellAdGuy6 жыл бұрын
According to the manual, the case only fits two 140mm fans in the front. You can connect THREE 4 pin PWM cooling fans of your choice to the fan controller hub in the R6 case. If you have more than THREE 4 pin PWM fans, check your motherboard for 4 pin PWM header power connections. The R6 fan controller hub also allows SIX three pin fan connections. (As noted in the video) Overview of 4 pin PWM fans www.ekwb.com/blog/what-is-pwm-and-how-does-it-work/
@lloydchristmas45476 жыл бұрын
Hey, I understand the pins now. I'm convinced to get 4 pin PWM fans. Thanks a lot. My motherboard has two 4 pin connectors. If I don't have enough 4 pin connectors, and I'd like to control the speeds, I may have to another get a hub (despite the R6 one). I appreciate your time.

All I want is a simple Define S with tempered glass, the top of the R6 to help improve air flow and one of the Front Mods from MSPC Tech and be near MY ideal case. TG to display custom water loop Ample room to plan a clean looking loop Good airflow to help keep temps down Decent storage in the back for some SSDs and HDDs

I think this is a near perfect design, certainly its a huge leap of improvement of the R4 and R5 though I feel it should have come with the USB Type C front panel connection as standard. Having said that, as I had the R4 and R5 I feel a bit bored with its design even though I do love the nice glass side. I feel I am craving a design such as the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ATX Tempered Glass even though I hate that it only comes with 2 USB 3 front headers and no USB Type C and the rear psu filter pulls out the rear of the case, otherwise I love the design. I am so conflicted :'(

Id like to see a cheaper version with maybe no fans/controller , no sound proofing, mesh style front with like 2 of each drive trays. also with the optional type c i/o they want 30 bucks for separate. Some where in the 100-115 range with the temp glass panel still. And maybe do like corsair and CM does and sell extra drive trays or fan controller . I personally like the lay out more than the meshify c, but for the price it's a lot of stuff i'm not going to end up not using , doesn't seem worth it. Where in the 50-100$ range you can find so many good cases.
@Neumah7 жыл бұрын
Man, because I'm into silent rigs and also don't care about internal aesthetics I always disregard windowed cases, but fuck me that thing is gorgeous in gun metal gray with a window. I might have to sacrifice some silence... damn.

What's the point of the front panel filter? At 6.20 when you take the panel off you can see the air intake holes are behind the dust filter, meaning that any incoming air goes straight to the fan NOT via the dust filter.
@vvmmuu7 жыл бұрын
No......at 6.20 he DOES take off the front panel and after that you can see the filter is behind the front panel and in front of the intake.... Like the humour and troll , but get it right and it's Soooooo much better.

Incorrect. The front filter fits flush over the front fans. goto 4:10, kzbin.info/www/bejne/iGeWiKSsnbBnnqM

There are only 2 things I don't like about the case that I have seen on videos. 1. There isn't a cover that can be placed to complete the psu shroud. 2. USB type C isn't supported natively.
@MaxellAdGuy7 жыл бұрын
very valid points, I suggested to Fractal to consider an exchange program for anyone who wishes to update their I/O panel to the C-Type version, otherwise it;'s waste to throw away your old I/O panel, after spending $29.95. Thanks for a very good review. Yes, great case, about as close to perfect we may get - possibly the best in it's class currently. I just hope the next version (R7) has a REMOVABLE PSU shroud. It is REALLY ticking me off that it is not removable. If I'm paying $300+ here in Australia for a Seasonic Titanium Or AXi Corsair PSU WHY oh WHY would Fractal force me to cover it up with that damn shroud when the gorgeous glass window affords such a great view of a magnificent high end PSU. It is a modular PSU so making the cables look neat is easy! No need for a shroud - OR, make it removable! Couldn't have been rocket science difficult to make it removable, surely Fractal?!! Oh, and they need to make the top twin piece roof easier to separate. Does anyone, including the reviewer, know when the R7 is due please? If these two things are fixed I will be insisting they take my money !
@MaxellAdGuy6 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian, we've worked with Fractal as consultants since 2010. They do listen, but we havent heard of any news on an R7. I'm guessing they won't release a new design for their R-series for at least another year or two. btw I'm editing more PC-related videos, Hope to See you soon! Bill - mnpctech.com/
@brianhoward92176 жыл бұрын
@@MaxellAdGuy Thanks Bill. That would be such a shame to wait 2 years for the R7 because if they made the changes now they could have the absolute perfect case NOW. Silly to have such a great case in the R6 with such silly little EASILY fixable 'bugs'. I have to buy 'something' for my first 'real' build early next year after Z399 motherboards are released and it will probably be this or a Darkbase but I'd really love this R6 with the issues fixed. Cheers and thanks for your response.

Just a little FYI for those thinking of building a white-themed PC in the Refine 6 White TG; for some odd reason Fractal design decided to make the front panel black in stead of white, more information here www.fractal-design.com/home/product/cases/define-series/define-r6-white-tg IMO I think the case looks weird with the black front panel, and I can't think of a real reason why they would have made this design choice.
