In-Depth Personality Analysis on Gregory from FNAF: Security Breach (Who is He?)

In this video, I try to analyze the personality of Gregory from Five Nights at Freddy's Security Breach. Was Gregory homeless? Did he run away from home? Is he not a kid? Was he in the Ruin DLC? I try to answer these questions by looking at his voice lines and how he talks and acts.
This video is not so much on the lore of Gregory, GGY, his background, etc. But more on what we see him do in Security Breach. There are so many theories about Gregory, so I won't go so in-depth on that. Although, I make some small theories.

7:07 That’s definitely The Mimic again, taking over the voice override. In the game files, there’s an unused voiceline of Gregory saying “It’s not your fault. I know you did it for me, to save me, but make sure it doesn’t follow you.” instead of “Gregory” saying “It’s not your fault. I know you did it for me, to save me, but we can’t risk being followed. I’m sorry.” so The Mimic was definitely talking over Gregory during that ending.

I don't think it was the mimic because the mimic can only repeat things it hears, and this is the first time we hear Gregory say that line, so it might not have been the mimic

So much lore, so little time.... I sometimes wonder what will become of Gregory, Freddy and Vanessa after the events of the game. Or even confused. No matter how much I try to figure it out, it just becomes a dead end for me. I'm stumped.

Well we find Gregory's backpack in the MXES room, seems like Vanessa and Gregory went back after sometime and trapped the Mimic.

love the video, but i do have some comments on it. 1) we could assume, based of GGY, that Gregory doesn't have any positive memories with the animatronics, while Cassie felt happy enough to hold a birthday party there. Cassie is gonna feel way more caring towards the animatronics 'cause she has good experience with them, While we haven't seen any of that with Gregory. The lies he told Freddy was most likely as well as being afraid of Freddy's reaction, or that Freddy would hate him. Whether it's 'cause Gregory cares for Freddy (most likely) or whether that is 'cause he wants Freddy on his good side is unclear. 2) Speaking of Freddy, the game did a poor job of building on Freddy's "we can't break my friends" point. Freddy himself also refers to "dealing/stopping" his friends, and we could argue that he doesn't want to harm them obviously, but his communication about that is double sided. 3) While Gregory's snarkiness in the beginning was a bit uncalled for (I kinda like that he's like that even though he's scared, acting all tough), Freddy proofs himself to also be a bit of a hinder sometimes. He misses the recharge cycle on purpose 'cause he was worried for Gregory (why not call him?), making Gregory go out of his way to get him to parts & service. Then, he gets caught by Moon (it's not completely his fault obviously), and Gregory has to go through one of the hardests part of the games just to help him again. So yes, Gregory is a snarky and a bit of a meanie, but I wouldn't say it was completley unjustified. Especially considering all he wanted was to just get out of a place that completely scares him and is actively hunting for him. And then comes the fact that Gregory selflessly shows that he wants to stop Vanny/save Vanessa so no other children would go missing. In my opinion, the ruin ending being Gregory makes barley any sense narratively, but this comment is long enough, so I won't get into that. Great video !!! Thank u for touching on this

This is a good analysis! I loved that you showed some of Gregory's caring side. Most people say he's just selfish and doesn't care about anyone. I mean, he saved Vanessa, and he stopped the disappearances he could've had just left all that stuff behind, but he didn't, and that's not something a selfish person would do. And I can understand why Gregory isn't very remorseful towards the Glamrocks. I mean, they did attack him first, so he is given no reason to like them even if Freddy tells them they are his friends. Freddy sees them as his friends while Gregory (a childs perspective) sees them as ruthless monsters that only want to kill. I mean, they insulted and threatened him, and they were banging on doors chasing him, trying to grab him, especially with Gregory's first encounter with them. So he only cares for those who are nice and friendly. A lot of people seem to miss these types of things and only focus on his actions. And It's sad that most of his lines were cut from the game he actually feels human. If only Steelwool were given more time. Also, I love that Gregory draws comics of him and Freddy. their bond seems to be very close.

​@@prufan​ I think Gregory, as GGY, made friends with Cassie at her birthday. We know Vanessa has 2 personalities and acts normal at times. The same could apply to Gregory since he made friends with 2 kids from GGY he acts normal at times, but in the end, he acts like an ai robot. I think after he was freed, he had amnesia he never has anything to say about Roxy or says anything about his parents or people he's really close with, like Cassie. Honestly, it's very hard to figure out when he makes friends with Cassie because I refuse to believe that Cassie's birthday party happens before GGY wouldn't make sense if he's going to school while there's missing posters of him around. Steelwool is gonna have to give us more info on his backstory to connect these events around him. This is all we have for now.

@@prufan Cassie's time with Roxy was cut short, we learn this with the Roxy's birthday lines we hear in the AR land, and in the files, and Gregory met Cassie after Roxy left, and it seems that Gregory's time with Cassie was also cut short, as we see Cassie crying with Gregory's missing posters.

Haven't played the game or read the books but he probably switched to his GGY persona and Vanessa is not completely free of her Vanny persona. So it's possible that the William Afton AI will brainwash Cassie as well. Not to mention that there could be more brainwashed people too.

Gregory wanting to defend himself and to destroy the Glamrocks isn't selfish tbh. Gregory had a very bad experience with the Glamrocks, and with the Pizzaplex, a very traumatic one in fact even before SB with GGY, which is why he's so hostile towards them. While Cassie had a very good experience with the Glamrocks, and with the Pizzaplex, had lots of happy memories there, which is why she's so empathic towards them. The way they both treat the Glamrocks and the Pizzaplex are because of their experiences with them, not because Gregory is a selfish evil person, his experiences were different from Cassie's. I also don't see how destroying Freddy's friends is also selfish, those friends where trying to kill him, the Glamrocks being friends with Freddy doesn't give a them a pass to Gregory, especially since Gregory doesn't even know they're hacked. In fact canonically Freddy leaves the Pizzaplex, with Gregory while leaving and abandoning his friends to rot, so it's clear Freddy wasn't that affected with their shattering nor did he care for them that much. Gregory also isn't snarky, he's sassy, I mean Cassie has some sass, Sun is a super sassy control freak in HW2, but I don't see anyone calling them snarky. Oh yeah lastly, GGY aka Gregory's evil bunny persona like Vanny, is no longer a thing, Gregory has been freed from Glitchtrap before SB, much like Vanessa was, in fact that's what Balloon World is, it's Gregory's arcade game that freed him much like how Princess Quest is for Vanessa. That's why everyone is after him, Gregory knows too much and Glitchtrap wants his favorite follower back.

While I would recommend taking the connections with the books with a grain of salt (silver eyes series) I agree that Gregory has every right to not feel so remorseful about the other Glamrocks. First few seconds of meeting Gregory, and the Glamrocks are trying to kill him with no remorse, scrap those beasts.

“It’s pretty dark in there” in the books we learn that Cassidy is the one who can see and move the Golden Freddy body whilst the Crying Child the other soul within Golden Freddy can’t see anything or move and can only speak. This is why in FNaF 1 Golden Freddy says “It’s me!” As if it’s an old friend trying to get attention whilst trying to kill you.

One of the friends and Kelsey one day chose to break in to an abandoned Freddy’s location to look around. The friend of Kelsey plays a prank on him and tells him to go in a Golden Freddy suit. After he got in the suit the springlocks set off killing Kelsey. The friend runs back home and pretends like nothing happened. Haunted by what he did he goes back to Freddy’s and looks at the suit but the blood that poured out of the suit is gone. The friend looks into the suit looking for Kelsey and he gets dragged into the suit by a hand. Whilst he is in the suit dying from the springlocks he notices a girl is in the suit with him. Then it cuts to the next day in a different school Kelsey who is now alive and well walks up to a group of children introducing himself “Hi I’m Kelsey”. Btw The random girl in the suit is said to be a version of the crying child as she is trapped in the body of the suit and can’t see or move whilst the new kid is some sort of spirit that lures children in to get killed by springlocks the new kid is probably Cassidy.

Hear me out Gregory looks like Crying Child but he doesn’t cry and doesn’t have remorse Cassie has the name of Cassidy but she crys and has great remorse What if Gregory’s body is the Crying Child’s body but he is controlled by Cassidy? By this point Cassidy would do ANYTHING to get to William this explains why Gregory mercilessly beats the animatronics another reason is that the Pizzaplex is built on Cassidy’s friends graves and she might see these animatronics as a mockery. And what if Cassie has Cassidy’s body but has the Crying Child’s empathy? (I know in the Freddy Files we see a young girl suspected to be Cassidy that doesn’t really look like Cassie but it just a theory :/ ) in Ruin we see that she crys after having to sacrifice Roxy. Also in FNaF 4 the Crying Child is held up by his brother in a fox mask and his friends into the mouth of Fredbear a bit like a sacrifice. Now look back at Ruin we have Cassie who I suspect to be the Crying Child sacrificing a wolf/fox that has it’s face ripped off. And After Roxy “dies” she comes back to save Cassie in the basement, after Crying Child “dies” his brother who wore a fox mask dies in the basement of FNaF 6. Pretty good?

I’ve seen too many people hating Gregory because he destroyed the animatronics and lied to Freddy about them, which I get, but like. He’s 10. A kid that age isn’t going to think about the long-term consequences. Someone that young can be selfish and snarky. And a kid like that can certainly lie. Also, Freddy welcomed him with concern, while Monty, Roxy, and Chica welcomed him with breaking open gates, insulting him, and plowing through boxes, respectively, to chase him, then bang on the doors. No kid that young would react kindly to that! Also, my theory is that he was supposed to cry after Freddy got shattered by his friends, but that got cut. And that was definitely the Mimic at the end. There was wires it could cut and it has hacked into speakers before. There was also a scratching sound before the switch.

He may be a booger, but he isn’t evil or a mastermind. Is he homeless or a runaway? Sort of a bit of both. I thought he might have been a child actor for Freddy Fazbear’s Mega Pizzaplex tv commercial footage, but he ran away when his contract expired and his parents put him under pressure to perform all the time and stole as much of the money he made as they could (85%, with 15% protected by The Coogan Act). He was never recorded as a guest there, as he entered with the cast and crew. Or if he was in the system, it was wiped by Vanny and Glitchtrap, as they didn’t want any record of him. Gregory probably stowed away in the Pizzaplex that night, having had some knowledge of it from being there to film his commercials and crashing Cassie’s birthday party to cheer her up.

'Love the intro ambiance. The process from Freddy's crash to Gregory hiding in him, I'm still unsure about. Glamrock Freddy has proven to be the best dad FNAF has to offer. Having seen NottyName's videos saying "if they chased me like this, I'd probably do it too" Interestingly, Freddy already seemed to acknowledge his friends being dangerous like around the backstage office, only to dismiss it an hour later. Regarding "Cassie loved them all, (besides Roxy of course,) she was concerned upon first seeing Chica and Freddy, though I'm not sure the same could be said for Monty. From recovering after the title, to just sounding surprised in the log flume, she never really said much sympathy on him. And of the many ways to interpret the "hard to look at" description of the Monty plush, maybe Cassie's simply not into him. Eh, Freddy sounded like he also thought Mr Hippo was lame. Regarding GGY, I've been thinking about a big chunk of their lore was for trolling. As with the mech bot in Freddy in Space 3. Despite the looks, I prefer to think of him a separate person to the Crying Child, and got into several time travel fics of Gregory meeting, befriending and defending him.

Funny, this analysis is based on pure misinformation. First of all, Gregory didn’t “stay” in the pizzaplex. He was kidnapped at around the age of 10-12 and used as a vanni follower for 3-5 years. The day security breach happens is the day he breaks out of the mimic’s control. Thus, he never purposely stayed in the pizzaplex. Your analysis on his relationship with Freddy is laughably wrong as well. We see in ruin that Gregory is emotionally attached to Freddy and doesn’t see him as a tool, even going so far as to draw comics of them bonding together. Gregory also is aware of what the glamrocks are capable of, which likely contributed to his decision to destroy them. In the books, we know that GGY used the glamrocks to mangle his victims. This is also stated in the cds when a therapist’s body is a found “mangled by machinery.”. It’s also implied GGY killed his own friends in this manner given the ending of GGY where Tony follows Gregory into the Pizzaplex. This would mean that around 8 of Gregory’s friend’s were killed by the glamrocks for the crime of getting to close to him or the truth of his situation. OF COURSE, Gregory would want the glamrocks dead knowing this. He even says this when Freddy and him reach the exit door. “If I leave now, nothing will change, will it? there will be more disappearances.”

EDIT: Well, _this_ just got torn to shreds.... From a storytelling standpoint, I think it would be pretty damn cruel for them to make Mimic hold _all_ control in the end, even with the elevator. Also, think about it--would the Mimic really destroy the only way out he had? He's too big to fit up the tunnel Cassy crawled through from the initial elevator taken for the Afton fight. From what we can see, there's no other elevator or way out for him. I think it was the real Gregory who cut the elevator, though I think he acted wayyyyy too early--he could've waited until after Cassie got out of the elevator up top, _then_ cut it while it's all the way up there. Then again, there's the fact that the Mimic is inside of her, through the neural implant. Gregory may well have had to do this completely on purpose because otherwise, she risked brining the Mimic back out, letting him jump to another thing to possess. That'd be some hella range, but still. As for why he was that invested, it's likely that he's with Vanessa, the "friend with the blueprints". Vanessa most likely programmed and built M.X.E.S. and got him installed down there, possibly with Freddy's help. He was concerned because, well, we saw that he didn't want more disappearances to happen in SB, so he didn't want any more Hell to happen. Overall, I think that was the real Gregory in the elevator. If it was the Mimic, then that more than likely means the Gregory we hear in the final chase is the Mimic, too. The Mimic was too busy fighting Roxy to focus on talking to Cassie in the cutscene before the chase, and it most likely knew the way to the elevator itself, so I don't think it was making her lead him (besides, if he was leading her, he obviously knew the way already). And why tell her how to escape when it obviously wanted to murder her? Not only that, but I would think the Mimic would have a more taunting tone if he was the elevator Gregory, not a remorseful one. Regardless, Cassie's screwed. If she's still alive after the elevator, then she's got the Mimic waiting out there for her, pretending to be Roxy, as is all but certain thanks to the sounds we hear under Gregory's exposition before the chase.

Well him dropping the elevator doesn't make sense of Gregory's character.. and It would make Gregory stupid. Gregory in SB shows care for the missing children, stopped Glitchtrap (I think it's still unclear) and saved a women who's been hunting him for six hours straight from her evil digital furry overlord, even saves and helps Freddy. Heck him destroying the Glamrocks was away too weaken Glitchtrap's minions, he puts himself in alot of danger to help people and to stop the Mimic. We see this clearly in the Mimic's lair with Gregory's pack back, near the collapsed vent, implying he was the bait for trapping the Mimic. Also logically if he did drop the elevator that doesn't make sense, why help Cassie to the elevator in the first place? why not just leave her to get killed by Mimic? or why contact Cassie? if Gregory wanted her dead why did he do all that effort to contact her Cassie. It would also make Gregory stupid, firstly if he wanted the Mimic to not be freed why drop the elevator in the first place? Just wait until the elevator with Cassie reaches outside, Cassie gets out of the elevator, then drop it. Secondly the Mimic is free no matter what, the elevator isn't it's only exit as there's nothing stopping Mimic to just escape the way Cassie came in, Mimic has retractable and expandable limbs, so it can fit in the tunnel Cassie came in, and even if for some reason it couldn't Mimic can literally turn into a spider and can just clime up the elevator shaft. It is free no matter what, the moment Cassie broke open that concrete wall it was over, it was free and Gregory knows this! He knows the Mimic is free no matter as one he most likely helped with the trap so he knows it from the inside out, and two he knows Cassie freed the Mimic as he directs her though the cave tunnels, speaks to her (briefly before cut off) in the elevator. So if he knew that the Mimic was free no matter what, why would he drop the elevator?? If he lets Cassie live and escape, the Mimic is free, if he sacrifices Cassie by dropping the elevator the Mimic is free. He might as well let Cassie live as it won't change anything, the out come will be the same, dropping the elevator is pointless. So either Gregory is stupid and dropped the elevator for no reason, killing Cassie for no reason (which he isn't stupid he's clearly smart especially in survival situations), or he didn't drop the elevator.

I dunno, elevators do tend to have ladders in case of an emergency, not to mention the strange robot was taking a bit of his time in the last bit of the chase scene, you'd think it'd be gunning it for the exit, unless it knew that elevator wasn't gonna hold, and that it would've been better to take the elevator ladder after the elevator fall and break. I wouldn't be surprised if the mimic-like robot was mimicking Gregory to trick Cassie one more time IN CASE she survives.

Narratively it doesn't make sense for Gregory to lead Cassie to the elevator to get her out, only for him to want to kill her. The Mimic could've done that job and Gregory would've dropped the elevator regardless if that was the case. Also, Mimic1/Helpi being inside of Cassie's head does nothing, as both Vanesa and Gregory already had experience with that, they would've found a way to help Cassie. The Mimic dropping the elevator while also making Cassie believe she was betrayed by her friend is peak narrative, perfect set up for manipulation if they want to continue her story. The Mimic didn't make it to the elevator, so it was useless to him already. PLUS we know he has access to the speakers inside Pizzaplex (through Helpi likely), so why wouldn't he have access to the speaker inside that one elevator?

We do need to take into consideration that by the point of the Mimic chase, the Mimic isn't actually trying to escape the underground anymore. If that was the case, he wouldn't have even started chasing Cassie and would've taken the other way out (He would've been able to since he can shapeshift, like he did in the Scooper ending to get inside the mascot costume). He wanted to kill her outright, that was the Mimic's goal, which is why he's pissed when Cassie does escape (Him squishing the metal pieces of the door out of pure anger). The elevator's power controls are also with the Mimic (The ones you boot up with Faz-wrench), he could totally take down the elevator if he wanted to, which does happen. The Mimic had also been Mimicking Gregory for the whole game, has access to most things in the pizzaplex through the hacked Helpi and overall has control of a lot of things. I think it makes more sense that the Mimic is still trying to kill her, but he's making sure that no matter what happens to her after the elevator crash, she totally believes that Gregory left her to die and that he's the most evil person ever, one final act of cruelty.
