Honestly, if you are gonna spend $1,000 on an Epiphone you may as well save up for the $3,000 Gibson ! In my opinion Epiphone is getting too expensive, but so it's Gibson for that matter since you can get a really nice Japanese Greco or Tokai or Edward Les Paul for the price of the Epiphone and even though Epiphone is using ask premium parts they haven't updated the fret wire which is still too soft but yet you get the good stuff on Gibson and all the Japanese guitar so 👍 yeah !🥂

I just bought the goldtop one last week and it is above and beyond any Epiphone or Les Paul style guitar I’ve ever played. I have a 2016 Gibson LP Traditional and I absolutely love that guitar. This Epiphone feels exactly like my Gibson. There is no part of the Epiphone that I feel is compromised on quality. It’s all there. And the case it comes in is nicer than my Gibson case. Totally blown away when it arrived. I will say the Epiphone 1959 Standard that is available now is a better value because you get the ISA Gibson Burstbuckers in it for less money but the finishes on the ‘59s look very cheap to me so I couldn’t get passed how they looked.

Dagan does very good reviews generally so this is no knock on him, but every KZbin channel that's been hired to review these has an up-hill battle here in order to convince the buying public. Gibson/Epiphone really messed up by outfitting these with Epiphone pick-ups instead of Gibson Slashbuckers or Seymour Duncans. The Epiphone Slash AFD from 2010 (and all the various color variants released in the years since) were around the same price as these latest versions yet all had the Seymour Duncans. Also the 2010 AFD Epiphone had a much better quality flame maple veneer. The flame maple veneer with orange finish on the current version of the appetite burst looks more like the one on the cheap entry level Slash Epi LP from 2015. Bottom line is, with Epiphone probuckers, these are basically just Epi LP standards, so they should be no more than around $600. A slash skull logo on back and a signature truss rod cover aren't worth $300. They really should have come up with a better pick up choice prior to releasing these.
@TheSupart913 жыл бұрын
Epiphone is more affordable then thousands dollars original Gibson version thats why its "Gibson inspired"
@andrewbendahan13793 жыл бұрын
Yeah but there is an argument here. People have been waiting for a long time and the slash set of seymour duncans are only like $160, so they should be in it. I'm super excited for this line of guitars, but I wish they had the gibson slashbuckers in them
@bozeeke3 жыл бұрын
@@andrewbendahan1379 they have neither Seymour Duncans or Slashbuckers. They have epiphone pick-ups, which essentially makes them an Epi LP standard. So a truss rod cover and a sticker on back alone do not justify a $400 mark up.
@bozeeke3 жыл бұрын
@@paulblack1272 it's not about snobbery. It's about ripping off the buying public, particularly the part of the buying public that's most cash-strapped which is why they'd choose Epi over Gibson in the first place. The previous versions of this guitar over the past 10 years (released one by one over time in virtually the same assorted colors) all had Slash's actual signature pickups. These have Epiphone pick-ups in them which are much cheaper. So charging the same price as those prior versions without the pick-up upgrade is a rip-off on the part of Gibson pure and simple. An Epi LP standard, which is essentially what this is, based on the specs, sells for $500-600 depending on which model you get. These here are $899 US. Does a signature truss rod cover and a skull sticker on back justify a $300-$400 mark-up?
@bozeeke3 жыл бұрын
@@paulblack1272 To be honest, Fender has a lot of good instruments in the under $2000 price range and their Mexican line is great for under $1000. Some companies though (like PRS and Gibson) are out of control because of the price points you mentioned. With these new Epis, I'm OK with the $800 price point, they just needed to put the Seymour Duncans in it like they did in the older models to justify the price. I understand not putting the new Gibson Slash pickups in it (because they'd likely cost $200-250 per pick-up) but a set of Slash Seymour Duncans is around $200, therefore would be reasonable to do AND they've done it in the prior Slash Epi models. Basically selling an Epi Les Paul standard for anything more than $600 only because of cosmetics (a sticker and truss rod cover) is almost a crime.

@shane10343 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I’ve got 2 2020 Epi custom silverbursts with the probuckers and a Slash Rosso Corso model with the SD Slash A2’s and they aren’t similar at all. The epi probuckers are a good pickup for a 600 dollar guitar just not right for this guitar or price point. SD Supply must be too hard to get right now and I heard magnets have gone way up in price. I would venture a guess that Epiphone couldn’t wait any longer and needed to release these for sales and just bit the bullet and put in what they had available.
@shane10343 жыл бұрын
I will also add that if the electronics in these are like what’s in my 2 custom silverbursts then a pickup swap is a breeze. Clip the connector off and match the wires. Bare knuckle Abraxas went in directly and a SD distortion was one wire off. Had to swap the red for the green but it was in there instructions. Maybe 15 minutes with string change.
@bozeeke3 жыл бұрын
I think I know what's going on here. Gibson ran into a unique problem on this one. Gibson pick-ups bought separately can run $150-200 a piece depending which one you buy. So they didn't want to put $400 worth of pup into a $900 guitar. Now, the Slash Seymour Duncans which they were previously using on most Gibson and Epi Slash LPs are only $200 for a set. But here's the issue, when they changed to the Gibson Slashbuckers on the newest Gibson Slash models, a lot of long time fans were mad and wanted the Seymour Duncans (even though most Gibson pups are more expensive than aftermarket pups like Duncan or Dimarzio). So even though it'd be affordable to do it, it'd be a PR nightmare to put the pickups everybody still wanted (but didn't get on the Gibson) on the Epiphone instead. So I think that's the REAL reason for the decision to go with Epi pups (because the Alex Lifeson les paul is only $899 and has all kinds of special add-ons including a $300 Floyd). The problem is, as presented the guitar is now basically an Epi LP standard with a skull sticker on back and a Slash signature on the truss rod and really only a $600 guitar as spec'd.
