It's not lip-sync, Anders sings along with the chorus playback and he moves his microphone away when he needs to sing the notes he can't sing.

He screams the high notes he can't reach, it sounds like, which is a decent compromise.

He's not lip syncing, but he does use a backing track to provide cover for his voice. And he can't hit the notes for the words "want" and "dream" at all so he screams them instead, which is pretty pathetic for a professional musician. He could get some vocal lessons, but he has said in the past that he doesn't do it.
