Whenever I see them live I get as close to the stage as possible and constantly scream "DECEMBER FLOWER!" at Anders as loud as I can in between songs. He ignores me all the time though =[

Probably the most brutal in flames song. I find it cool they still blasted a bit on jester race, its more of a heavy metal album but at least unlike a lot of melodic "death metal" today it has some balls in the drumming
@arkhanyc2473 жыл бұрын
Still ? This is their first "true" album, if you don't count Lunar Strain. You should also listen to Behind Space for a bit of "brutality". Btw, it's really not "heavy metal", it has always been labeled "swedish death metal" like Dark Tranquillity, At the Gates, A Canorous Quintet, Edge of Sanity, etc.
@fredmaddog28143 жыл бұрын
@@arkhanyc247 Lunar Strain is like 10 songs and half an hour, recorded in a studio. In what universe is that not an album? Lunar Strain has some more brutal moments, however it's a very light and ethereal feeling album. I'm not saying In Flames is totally just heavy metal (though if you watch the full version of this live DVD the band themselves describe the jester race as "more of a HM album") but it is obviously death metal influenced by HM on those old albums (rarely fucking death metal at all post whoracle) so I would describe it as a death metal/traditional heavy metal hybrid a-la deceased or something.

I seriously don't get people who think this song is all about the solo. Saying the solo is like the cherry on top would already be overstating its importance imo. This song is about the awesome rhythm persisting from beginning to end and the beautiful melodies that ride on it. The solo just provides a break from it and return to it. But I do get that music is a very personal thing and this is just my own take on it.
@xDMrGarrison3 жыл бұрын
Holy shit I left such a snobby comment. Booh me.
@MasiukA12 жыл бұрын
The reason there is no solo is because Jesper Strömblad, the regular guitarist didn't play the solo for this song, I don't think he could, so they had guest lead guitarist Fredrik Johansson from Dark Tranquility come in to play it for the studio recording for the Jester Race album.

Anders sounds nothing like on album, but I still love it!
@xBullet216 жыл бұрын
Let me clear up a few things: The solo is cut becuase the guitarist who wrote the solo isn't playing. The guitarists in the video are new to the ones recording the album and have no idea/hate playing complicated guitar solos. Anders did record the album version, it just sounds different because they're playing live and it's the 7th song he's had to scream and he is tired. He's basically standing still, watch for yourself.
@Robertspurling14 жыл бұрын
@sulz47 The solo was played by a guest guitarist (Fredrik Johansson) on the album version. I guess they didn't bother learning it.

@alexanderabbey1980 Apparently you don't know In Flames well enough to know that Fredrik Nordström didn't play this solo. Fredrik Johansson played this solo. Fredrik Nordström was the guy that produced their early albums. And they didn't play the solo because they couldn't. Jesper is and has never been a guy who shreds and stuff, he's just godlike on creating melodies and a great rhythm guitar player.

What I wouldn't give to see them try this song nowadays. They're all much better musicians now, and Anders is a far more consistent live screamer, he wouldn't sound like his throat was bleeding, but scream the song like it's sposed to sound.I know he can still do The Jester Race growl.... @watertouchesthesun9 жыл бұрын
TheGoldblaze Hmm i'm not too sure it does. I agree it's far from polished, but actually I quite like how raw it is. And the tone of Jesper's guitar is great. As for the solo... I can understand them not playing it, and you could argue he should has learned. He's more than capable (listen to 'Haunted' by Annihilator, he's the guest soloist on that song and it's great) A little bit like Suburban Me, would have been great to see that live but the solo is Christopher Amott and I guess they would've done the same as here.
