Fresh from sold out screenings at BFI Flare, writer-director Matt Carter’s debut feature explores life on and off the pitch at a gay rugby club.
Mark (Alexander Lincoln), a new and inexperienced rugby club member, finds
himself drawn to Warren (Alexander King), a seasoned first team player. When a series of happenstances at an away fixture lead to a drunken encounter, Mark and Warren unwittingly embark on a romantic affair they struggle to hide from their partners and teammates. As the secret begins to unravel, team spirit, loyalties and camaraderie are tested in writer-director Matt Carter’s startlingly sensitive story about forbidden love and finding your tribe.

Every once in a while you come across a film and you know that it will not leave you for a long long time. And this is one of them. It's fresh, authentic and tender. And on a side note: yet another example of great British filmmaking and acting at its best (and I'm not British) so well done.

@@burton2r2 I think Mark broke up with Warren because he thought about his mom’s story. His dad was with an other girl called Jennifer before mom "stole" him from her. And when Warren is ready to break up with John to be with him, Mark doesn't want that. He doesn’t want to be the reason of the breakup and end up in a relationship similar to his parents
@Maatjuhhh
@Maatjuhhh 4 ай бұрын
@@Ryanmanification agreed. The only thing that could save Warren in Mark's eyes is that Warren broke up with his boyfriend and left the Stags in the meantime they had no contact. Meaning that Warren did this from his own will. I do wish that they would expand Warren's backstory a bit more. Did John save Warren from a life of criminal and how so? Doesn't make us forgive Warren but could understand his motive. Now he looks a big coward. The ending could be Mark just content and happy with the Stags family, signaling he wants to be a single for a while. Now the meeting with the new guy at the end cheapens the whole Warren affair.

this is it, this seems like proper writing of gay characters, written as human beings where their sexual orientation isnt the focal point despite being a formative element of themselves and not painting it as an add on, will watch for sure. I have stopped watching movies centered around gay people and gay couples because they never write them as human beings but as tropes and from a heteronormative heterosexist and homophobic lens hope this movie wont disappoint.

this movie is remarkable, from the script to the actors. you can clearly feel them entering you throughout the film and beyond. i didn't expect a better ending, i wanted to scream at the producers that even gay people deserve a happy ending but thinking about it this is what warren deserves: i can only wish him to wallow in his pain and his web of lies continuing to being afraid to step out of his comfort zone for something better. I can instead compliment mark on how he stood up and wish him all the best. for once a different but realistic lgbt film, without homophobia but with a deep meaning.

So few could ever understand the impact this movie has had on my life.... The character of Warren is by far my favourite - his character reminds me somewhat of myself. Any movie which centers around Rugby is automatically a favourite, but add to that a gay theme with love, lust, hidden passion and you have a real WINNER ! Bravo ! So nice to see masculine gay men - we are becoming a minority compared to all the new shows chock-full of drag queens and nelly guys playing Barbie !

I'm sorry but Warren was an incredibly greedy, borderline sociopath who used every man he bedded for his own gains. I was honestly surprised it wasn't revealed that he had a predatory tendency to cheat on John with other members of the teams, which would have at least explained why the one teammate looked at him so contemptuously. He may have realized he ultimately did Mark but it was beyond too late and the damage he had inflicted was beyond any form of forgiveness or redemption, hence why he went back with John.

I watched it. I found it relevant, compelling and so authentic. I’m a gay man that has played on gay sports teams and saw dynamics that was portrayed in this film, and I had moments when I felt their conflicts, the struggles of taking that leap of faith out of toxic relationships and hoping that by doing so maybe, just maybe, I would be the exception instead of the rule. Please watch this to see that this isn’t as topical as you might expect it to be. The depth of the characters was so moving. Alexander Lincoln and Alexander King were perfectly cast as the leads, yet I have to say that each of the actors were on point in this film. This is what I want to see in Gay Film, and I want to thank everyone that Kickstarted this project because we have needed something more than the many mainstream uninspired stereotypes. Thank you, Matt, for your hard work that was the driving force behind the making of this film. You are amazing and I hope that this will be the start of some more inspired experiences. You scored a try with this one, and when I saw that you composed and performed many of the songs, as well as the ending animation and even was one of the drivers for getting this project done won me over. I’m so impressed.

I was very privileged to be at the world premiere of this film, at this year's BFI Flare film festival. I was blown away by this film. What at first seems to be a film about two gay men who embark on a relationship, spins out into a much bigger story about gay men trying to navigate life and love and friendship. I really enjoyed watching it. I would highly recommend the film.

okay... I've watched the film several times, because this film is good. But, the most important thing I can find the meaning of this film. The meaning is that love is never wrong it's just that the time is not right. Why? How Mark and Warren fall in love even though they both already have their respective partners. The points that I can take so that I find the meaning of this film are: 1. Mark is cheating on his boyfriend, because his boyfriend is busy with his personal affairs so he forgets about Mark, he does love Mark but it's just that he doesn't have enough time with Mark. 2. Warren was the worst, he cheated on his boyfriend who was even in the same group as him, he thought that spending one night with Mark wouldn't be a big problem for his relationship with his boyfriend, but it all happened outside his expectation was that he fell in love with Mark. 3. Mark decided not to be with anyone, he ended all his relationship with his boyfriend and Warren, even though he knew he was also in love with Warren, it's just unfair for him if he was with Warren but he had to break up with his boyfriend. 4. At the end of the film, Warren admits that he is in love with Mark, he even asks Mark to be with him, because at that time Warren is going out of town with his boyfriend. But, Mark refused because he knew his relationship with Warren would not be smooth even if they were together. 5. Mark told his mother that he and Warren were just friends with benefits, or just friends. However, his mother knew that Mark was having an affair and his mother made sense of it, because Mark's father had also had an affair with another woman, but his father still chose his mother, but with the story that Mark's mother did not find a way out at all, instead he was angry with the attitude of his father who had an affair from his mother. These five big points are the points that I think are the essence of this film, so I can conclude that "Love is never wrong, it's just that the time is not right".

I was surprisingly impressed by this one. At first wasn't too keen on yet another film centered around sporting, but I think it homed in on the more relatable quality of the sport. Not the technicalities of the rules or even the competitiveness (wonderfully telegraphed by the fact that the only point at which the sport's "laws" were relevant was at the end), but friendship and comradery amidst drama of romance and such. It was sad, real, frustrating and adorable, pointing out a lot of the flawed toxic thinking of males, even when in a queer-positive space. Not really resolving them in ways that are the healthiest, but in a net positive and mature way you'd at least hope for. Nearly cried at the end. My major sentiment throughout was that it's so sad how people get in their own way by being too afraid to confront their own emotions in a productive logical way until it's too late. But at the same time how beautiful it is to have found a family that you can stick by through drama. Very well done film, great score and excellent cinematography as well. Every single shot was a vibe and that alone made it stand out.

*spoilers* I absolutely loved watching this movie… Mark was very smart for rejecting Warren, instead he chose to work on himself. Even after that he still denied his offer, which portrayed his actual growth really well… Most movies choose the cliche route and bring them back together in the end, even if their relationship is toxic and won’t lead to anything on the long run (they were both cheating, pure selfish love) That’s why I truly liked how Richard turned Mark down, it portrayed that a glow up won’t fix the hurt you’ve caused the other person. Truly remarkable work of the writers and producers! Also towards the end I started rooting for Mark and Henry, but I must be the only one, cause no one has mentioned them until now😂 Though they had great chemistry😏

I'm wondering if Warren's love for Marc is partly based on getting free skiing vacations in Switzerland with Mark's parents. But I do believe that his love for Mark is somehow true anyway.

Just happened upon this film on Netflix last night. I wasn’t expecting much but holy cow I loved it. It’s always fun to question if you should be rooting for the protagonists; they’re clearly in love and not happy with their current relationships but have both broken the ‘rules’ set out by their significant others. Made them feel so much more human and relatable. Big fan of the ending too. It was heartbreaking seeing Warren physically cry (for the first time in the film?) and having to face returning to his relationship he doesn’t want and leaving the club when the love of his life is right there. Mark ends the film following the advice of his mum which is so sweet, if the film was longer I would have loved to see how his relationship with his teammates had changed now this has all happened. The resolution of the team is the only bit that felt a little rushed after the beautiful pacing from the rest of the film. All in all, god damn beautiful film and a very much appreciated amount of gay sex. 9/10

It looks promising, I just hope for a happy ending, no unnecessary drama, no tragic deaths... we have seen way too many LGBTQ+ movies with depressing endings and although in recent years we have finally seen a change in this trend (God's Own Country, Love Simon, Jongens, They Way he Looks, the series "Heartstopper" which I loved...) there's still way too few series/movies out there with happy endings but a ton with sad ones.

Warren is in love with john and will never actually leave him unless john breaks up with him. In the new years party he had a chance to stand up for mark after john rightfully punched him but he did nothing and instead went back and presumably begged john to take him back. Just how mark's mum said it is not about love between mark and warren its about how cheaters never change & how cheating on the love of their life is the thrill they are after. Think of the scene where marks dad brings up jennifer his first love who left him for cheating but he still talks about her. Exactly like that warren will never leave john bcuz he never did even after the multiple chances he had bcuz he respects JOHN unlike how mark was his dirty lil secret he is ashamed of and sees as a toy. He only wants him in dark corners while mark wants to go back home to his bf or life but Warren always chooses John first like not breaking up with him for months + leaving the club for him + taking his side when john punched mark.

i rarely watched gay movies with sad endings, and somehow this is my first time. i couldn’t forget that pain and emptiness. this movie somehow portrayed the brutal truth of gay community where not everyone will find their fairy tale ending. i wish i will find one tho, even tho it’s just a glimpse or just faint light. i wish i will never experience the pain of heartbreak/infidelity and i wish that my first romantic relationship will be the first and last till my afterlife. i just want somebody to love me for me and i love him for him. i wish that everyone’s reading this will find the greatest happiness in your life in any form and hope that you’ll keep surviving for me. stay strong for me and please enjoy the ups and downs of life together with your loved ones hee hee❤. i need all prayers and hopes that i will find a man in the future….. 😊

Amazing movie, so well acted, so well shot, great music ❤ The only negative is the two main characters which the audience were supposed to connect with were cheating on their respective partners... Slightly problematic... 😬 Maybe a sequel focussed on John and Rich, and how they felt and dealt with their long-term boyfriends betrayals?

I just watched this movie had to buy it on Prime. And it was amazing. Both actors had great chemistry, they both did a great job especially Alexander Lincoln, I just fell in love with his acting and his puppy dog adorable face. Anyway, why isn’t anyone talking about the culprit of the movie? I am not talking about Garett, we all knew from get go that he would be the one to expose them. But the real evil of the movie was Henry. Oh god that was absolutely the worst character in this movie. He was selfish, sloppy and expects Mark to babysit him around meanwhile he has a secret crush on him. You know what made me mad so much at the end when he tells mark maybe we can work on being friend again. I was like wtf, if I were mark, I would’ve 🥊 him😡😡😡😡😶‍🌫️🤬🤬

the most inspiring and special part is that even mark loved warren too much still he declined to be with warren as warren lost his chance after mark went through so much for him and he was not there when it was the time. That's very difficult in real life which is why we need to get inspire from it and should be strong as he was.

All I have to say is wow... We need more movies like this. The end got me. But it was excellent and also an excellent film all around. From the cinematography to the message conveyed throughout the film. The level of authenticity this movie has is extremely realistic. As a gay man myself I have gone through the exact same thing and I felt very connected to the movie in representing the story of a gay man's struggles, hardships, friendship, and infidelity within a gay partnership. I highly recommend this movie! Excellent work from everyone involved in this movie.
