Mayor Wayne Brown is an astute man of substance, Financial literacy skills and expertise garnered from years of experience as an engineer battling with councils and making things happen. This is way more important than having a mayor who is a silver tongued entertainer groomed for the camera. The proof will be in the pudding when the financial mess gets fixed and ratepayers aren't forced to shell out for higher exhorbitant rate hikes. It is a shame how the mainstream media has piled on him for their own biased agendas like a pack of berzerk dogs instead of backing a good man , assisting, suporting him and letting him get on with doing what he does best.

"Council cannot just print more money, as can be done by a minister of Finance" ...internal division cuts, council services cuts, sale of Airport shares approx 2.3 billion, rates rise of 6.7 % which is less than inflation rise. New council premises instead of Waterfront Palace; nissan huts in Huntly? Franklin & Rodney made serious cuts. Citizens Advice Bureau should be funded by central government, only 2% of their work is related to Auckland council. Original local funding was set up according to what they already had, so the rich got richer. Long term plan will have Zero base budgeting, which will be a shock to existing. Policies are: fix Auckland's infrastructure, stop wasting money, get Auckland's transport moving faster, take back control of our council organisations, Port and parks. Govt wants more public transport. Cheaper to pay a parking fine than pay for the parking.

All I can say is...stay the course Wayne, your in a league of your own when it comes to mayors looking after their respective ratepayers. The majority of councils in NZ today are intent on window dressed policies and wants rather than addressing the needs of their communities. Too many councils operate from the "ratepayers will make up the difference if needed" ethos rather than being prepared to cut their cloth to gain what's "needed'' over a longer time period. Keep up the good work, hopefully some other mayors will take notice and bit by bit this country will become a better place to live... sadly at the moment there's a massive change of approach needed for that to happen.

The minister of Auckland Transport has a cheek having squandered over 3 billion on an under ground tunnel that crippled businesses wasn’t required, when you can literally walk the distance in under 30 minutes, the city rail link is an absolute waste, that creates 2 additional bottle necks, and he wants more money, he should either resign or be dismissed. All the counsel members who wanted to increase rates, should either offer to reduce their own wages or step down.
