When it got to a stage where 100s of postmarsters were being prosecuted for having their hands in the till did no one think their must be something wrong here.

Good point! I think if this was to be clearly told we would find that there is history of low level discrepancies taken as a normal occurrence because some errors are inevitable. It does lay itself open to cheating. There was a facility for dealing with imbalances called the "suspense account." Unexpected deficits and surpluses were supposedly put into this account. It may be that many prosecutions brought before Horizon featured the misuse of this account. It was decided that Horizon would not include a suspense account. Therein lies the suspicions and the wholly mistaken idea that Horizon itself was so robust no errors could ever be made. Some declared bugs, would be likely to appear at any office that dealt with an affected transaction type. Where other types of discrepancies were seen at more random offices on the network. It is my view that in the latter case the communications network should be a number one suspect. Yet no mention is ever made of this possibility. I would like to ask why that was. I would also ask what is the point of POL employing all these lawyers who freely admit to having little or no knowledge of how the Horizon system works? They mill around spreading a web of litigation intrigue lining their own pockets as they do so.

Myself having prosecuted people before, even if it got to 10 I'd be halting any further prosecutions until a thorough investigation was done. These horrible people were doing everything they could to protect "THE BRAND".

@@yhshah21 We all feed off each other - some more so than others. POL had a whole team chasing would be dishonesty that had been in place long before computerisation. They had to have something to keep the business integrity. It might well have cost more to run than was ever swiped. Possibly not quite the point. Computerisation baffled them all - including it would seem, - the supplier! There probably was some bandwaggon jumping by PM's to blame Horizon. A study of the "Suspense Account" system of accounting is very enlightening. It makes me wonder why the PM's signed up to the make good any losses clause in their contract. They also did some transaction reversals in order to achieve a daily balance. Some have admitted to that. Technically that is False Accounting. One wonders if that device had been used for many years? I expect some of the computerisation costs were promised by much more precise accounting. A promise that the computer could not deliver on. An independent "expert" should have looked into the system integrity starting with the communications of the branches to the mainframe. Another weakness in such computing is the "recovery" process that follows, amongst other things, a system reboot. For me - everyone is wrong here. The ignorance is appalling.

I wonder if Mrs. Crichton is still employed. Her memory is so appalling she really wouldn't be much use if she "can't recall" and can't remember" so many important things about her role. Yesterday she was shown a file note regarding a fiery exchange with Paula Vennells, which Mrs. Crichton said of herself it was not like her, yet she can't remember something so unusual for her.

Surely some judge should have seen over 700 Citizens only working for the post stealing. There must be something wrong here. It doesn't make sense. Why did they not question this strange Statistic. After all they are extremely well paid and give n huge privilege to make sure our justice system works.
