SO! while this works to breed worms it also works to attract them so that you dont have to buy a single thing. just burry it in your yard and keep the area around it covered and moist andyoull have it!

I love the project. A composting-specific worm, such as red wigglers, should eat up the scraps a lot faster than the larger ones from the bait shop. Some people say that red wigglers won't survive well outside of worm bin, but I've seen some survive for months in an in-ground garden. (Depends on what the soil is made of, I suppose.) Red wigglers multiply fairly quickly, so even a few worms to start can grow over the months as long as food + moisture is added. I have a 7 ft x 3 ft worm bin with red wigglers (basically a wood raised bed, but with a bottom + top, and air holes on the sides), but I like the concept of having a worm bin (or multiple) inside of a raised bed.
@yes350yes2 жыл бұрын
Exactly the large worms are deep burrowers, red wigglers are the ones that compost the best. They usually stay in the top 6".

Good to have at least two in each garden. A full one maturing and one to continue to fill. The worms will go back and forth. Key point is a raised bed as demonstrated here. Ground level bins fill with water and stay filled too long.

hi, what are the bricks you use for surrounding the raised beds? Thanks for sharing the method. Very easy to follow.
@OHZdashcam4 жыл бұрын
The bricks are so called planting bricks, they are hollow inside, top to bottom. Made from concrete. In Germany you can buy these in the hardware stores. They measure 20x20x40 cm. I bought these 2nd hand because the cost around 4-5€ a piece. I paid 1.5€ for a piece. For the garden bed I used around 100 of them. You should check out Ebay. 👍

Sir, I like your simple idea of getting a few fishing worms from the bait shop ( yes they will multiple) .We here in Ohio USA has the bigger 10 "nightcrawlers" that can be seen after dark and better on raining nights and 3"red worms near river banks,The reds might be the prefer little garbage garden digger for our beds. Agree one dozen should get the compose heap the little workers it needs,They will multiple quickly. Sir I think I will get digging soon Thanks

Lil pro tip, go outside with a flashlight that has a bit of clear suranwrap lightly colored with a marker at night and find the worms that way, buying worms in the plastic containers is a little counter productive lol. The tinted flashlight lens helps you get closer to the night crawlers

@OHZdashcam5 ай бұрын
I think, the amount of compostable waste I have to throw away has reduced by half to 2/3. It works for me. I live by myself, if more than one person uses this, I would recommend a larger bin.

I just want to know if how deep is that your raised bed garden? 😊😊🙏🏼 Thanks in advance. 💕
@OHZdashcam3 жыл бұрын
The raised garden bed is about 1m deep. The stones are hollow on the inside and connected using the soil which fills the bed. Therefore the space of the wall is useable fpr plantig.
@davidwood622 жыл бұрын
Why not put the worms into the soil without the bin.

Mouse can get in through the holes.
@lourdesdoty77653 жыл бұрын
The holes are way too small for a mouse to get in throught the wholes he drilled on the sides and bottom. And if one got in from the top, it would not be able to get back out and would become worm food:).

When the intention is to mix the vermicompost in the soil why not just dig a hole and do the same why go through the bucket???
@angelaa33903 жыл бұрын
I guess so you can just throw in waste vegetable matter to top it up, no need to dig and bury it
@zettavilla3 жыл бұрын
@@angelaa3390 but digging and burrying would actually fasten the decomposition process and get quicker contact with the worms... Worms require a cooler temper during summers out of sunlight pref.. But the bucket part of it am not sure
@donf42272 жыл бұрын
It can make sense with the bucket if trying to go somewhat no-dig method. Also, if there are any rodents (or other animals) that like to eat worms, perhaps the holes can keep the worms safe while they are in there.... Simply burying fruit + veggie scraps seems logical as well, especially after harvesting and before starting new plants, though the time they take to break down may vary widely, if there aren't many composting worms helping to break it down.
@ilDreadmakermichele4 жыл бұрын
You used too much nitrogen material You added unnecessary water because you used only fresh material You added the worm too soon The worm eat decomposed organic matter and if you don't wait they will go out of the bin
@tornado100able4 жыл бұрын
But happily they will come back by same holes they left the bin when the food is ready to be eaten by them
