I believe this is pretty much the standard in every country. You dont have to, but it will alwayd be a great advantage for landing that first job. After that experience is everything

Except that the local market is desperate and will take people with 0 actual experience (never written a line of code in their life, dropouts and hairstylists etc) and then just train them up over a few months lol.

In my country they do the exact opposite. They require a lot of degrees, especially in the public sector. They believe that those who have many degrees have skills. Sooner or later they see the mistake and the wasted time.

Interesting! I will move to Japan as a student (language school) but I do have just over 5 years experience in software development. From what I've heard, even tho you might not need a CS degree , because I have no degree (I finished an apprenticeship in the UK) I need to take the ITPEC FE or AP exam to qualify for the working visa. Thanks for the video!
