I believe this is pretty much the standard in every country. You dont have to, but it will alwayd be a great advantage for landing that first job. After that experience is everything

In my country they do the exact opposite. They require a lot of degrees, especially in the public sector. They believe that those who have many degrees have skills. Sooner or later they see the mistake and the wasted time.

Interesting! I will move to Japan as a student (language school) but I do have just over 5 years experience in software development. From what I've heard, even tho you might not need a CS degree , because I have no degree (I finished an apprenticeship in the UK) I need to take the ITPEC FE or AP exam to qualify for the working visa. Im still beginner w 1 yoe in IT now still grinding + doing anki, hopefully in a year ill be ready to take N2 (im still n4 now).also I heard data center tech jobs needs ppl over there, which ill be aiming first probably..
