This knot comes in handy when you need a quick release along a section of rope. You can use it to hang items while camping, or to tie down gear to a truck bed. It’s almost like having a carabiner tied into your line. I am using 1/4” paramax and 9mm dual blue by black diamond. #knots #paracord #rope

Wow, what an awesome solution! I've always loved the concept of soft shackles for their strength and ease of use, but having to make them yourself or buy them is kind of a hassle. This is much easier, and very versatile. Thanks for posting this video!

Very clever, indeed. Working with 3-strand and the simplicity of splicing with it, I would have tackled the problem from a different angle, but I may never do that because this setup is so natural. The simplicity, the ease, the utilitarian design; a clever bending of the line, you've done. [Slow clap]

Fantastic.. I can think of 3 spots to use the is already. Straps are ok but heavy where the buckle is and don’t work well for odd shaped item like bags and trash. This soft shackle whatever you called it 😂 will be perfect. And I can leave them in the vehicle till the next time 🥂

Very informative video. And nicely presented. So when you break the knot in the middle you pulled on the standing ends to tie your second knots as we speak. Great idea. I am knot tyer from the UK. You have some cools ideas sir. Kudos to you. I can see the application of this in a survival situations as well. For making simple complex net for catching anything. Well done. Cheers.

One of my fav channels, love it ^.^ One suggestions would be to use another auto-holding truckers hitch on the other end of the red rope, meaning you could tension without the need of feeding it all through again and retying when you bottom out.

I've been tying the overhand knot for probably 50 years never heard the other term. What a lovely thing to think of. And what a bad knot for hanging people. Almost as much fun as piano wire. About as technically appropriate as calling the bowline the "never comes undone when you are pulling over an overhand, knot".

First, everything I know about knots I’ve learned on this channel so I may knot* know what I’m talking about. Could you put an automatic truckers hitch on both ends of the rope? This way you wouldn’t have to feed all the rope back through to get it tight?

If you use a Trucker... And still have slack in the system, Something is wrong...maybe to many anchor Points ;) Or you need for each pair of anchor a trucki... (Moving the slack Out with hands will reduce the down force a Lot.) Have a nice Day Greatz from Germany opo

I found an application today. I tried this for a single quick release system, but my length was too short. So, I tied in an alpine butterfly knot and a stop knot at the end, and this worked for me. I then had to trying tying on to a pole for hanging a bag, I did the alpine butterfly and then the stop knot again, followed by a rolling hitch to the pole. I wonder if the cargo net idea could be done with the alpine butterfly. Though, I think the above is much easier to ty, when doing multiple anchor points.
@ScorpionRegent
@ScorpionRegent 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah you can use half hitches or round turns to add more security to that set up. A cargo net secured to alpine butterflies (or figure eight loops) could be done. You either have a very long line like Brent does or a separate perimeter line. Connects loops and corresponding net points with the perimeter line. Tightening up the perimeter line tightens up the net.
@MrGlider_
@MrGlider_ 3 жыл бұрын
Quick question. Why not use a double figure 8 as the base? That way you get both ends and can adjust the loops before locking it of on it self...
@7051CWO
@7051CWO 3 жыл бұрын
I actually had used this knot and then it occurred to me to use the Double-8 and came back to suggest it, but you beat me to it. The Double-8 seems to cinch better, more cleanly, and seems to use less cordage.

I like it. Dunno if I would use it, but it’s freaking cool. I guess if you had multiple things in a truck or a cargo basket, you could create the net to keep objects from bouncing or flying out. It definitely looks cool. I really like the soft-shackle thing. For a basket, I may just have a dozen or shackles made up in a tote and pull them out to create this net like affect, instead of tying in the shackles at certain spaces, but very cool to know this can be done with a single rope or two long lengths.

You clever, clever man. Thank you. I don't understand how you attached the other end to the pole at 02:14 without it sliding. All i could think of was a prusik which takes more rope, would like to learn something new.
@patrickb-man1309
@patrickb-man1309 3 жыл бұрын
You should be able to tell by pausing and looking at it. It’s just two free ends of rope wrapped around the pole in opposite directions two times in a criss-crossing fashion and attached facing each other with a square knot. It’s nothing like a prusik knot in appearance.
