Your reaction to the mirror scene was so me.....I was like, wait wait!!! No married not married :p lol. But to be fair, they do not wait in the book lol. The showrunner also mentioned within the timeline of the show they DID get pregnant on their first time. So in a recap, in approximately 24 hours time, Colin purposefully breaks Pen's engagement to Debling, chases down her carriage, admits his undying love to her, they hook up in said carriage for the first time, Colin proposes to Pen immediately afterwards, told both their families they were engaged, had sex for the first time, and then Colin got Pen pregnant. Let it never be said that once this dude figures his feelings out and knows what he wants, he doesn't walk, he doesn't run, he CATAPULTS lmao.

I can’t tell you the number of times I have watched and rewatched the spicy scene in episode 5. Not because of what is happening, but because of how it happened. The tenderness and understanding that Colin showed in this moment knowing that she had no experience. He was the epitome of the perfect romantic partner for Pen. Also, the continuous consent that he kept circling back to…swoon! This scene shows just how important consent and care is when it comes to being intimate with your partner. Also, shows how SEXY consent and care is! I’ve never seen an intimacy scene that truly felt like a real life experience and I was beyond impressed by the attention to detail when it came to Pen’s needs. Ultimately, I would have loved for them to wait, but if that man was standing behind me, whispering romantic declarations and making every effort to ensure that I had the best time possible, I wouldn’t have been able to say no either! Colin stole my whole heart in this scene.

I have felt the same! At first I giggled to myself about how silly I felt for rewinding so much. Now I realize it was in pure appreciation of how sensual, pure, tender and female lead it was. So refreshing and DIFFERENT from what we normally see on our spicy tv shows.

I agree the young women should be informed by the at least their mothers how the intimate relationship between a husband and wife works. However, in this system, Colin was the perfect example of how a husband is expected to teach his bride about the bedroom activities in a marriage.

56:17 this scene is very symbolic and sad at the same time. Penelope is literally burning her dreams while Colin is discovering his at the same time - and ironically, they both have the same dream to write. She’s sacrificing hers for his and home boy is in the dark about it. This scene truly illustrates the discrepancies between women and men back then in a really sad way.

And he is a little impetuous (as we've seen) so I think it made sense. They had to change things a little from the book, but in the book they don't wait either.

10:11 in my opinion, this is the perfect example of how Eloise is a bad friend. How can you not see the heart eyes Penelope have been throwing at Colin over the YEARS they have been friends? That means Eloise was more focused on her ideas and views than on Penelope. Lets see, they all met when Colin was 10 (Pen and El would have been 8) I would have liked to see flashbacks (instead of just hearing bits of the story)

6:00: Pen knows the footmen talk just as much as the women do. That talk would have ruined her for good if she didn't get in the engagement news first. Colin just getting in the carriage alone unchaperoned was seen as 'improper'. Although the footmen are clearly trustworthy as they have never let on about her Whistledown trips to the Printers so maybe it was just a way to say 'stuff you' to her Mother with the showdown we saw after.

Soooo many people could have outed Pen! While she hid her identity from the Ton, the rest of Mayfair knew her game and that was so SCARY to me! The carriage scene could have been another issue for sure, did they work like a taxi service? Or were carriages assigned to each home?

@JoiLouiseReacts They could be ordered like a taxi yes, it's why the London and Nottingham cabs are still sometimes referred to as the 'Hackney Carriages'. But for people of the Bridgerton's and Featherington's wealth the Carriages were usually assigned to the Houses. My own opinion is I think the reason no one outed Pen is because she recognised the importance of even the 'little people' being given a fair wage, from the printers to giving the carriage drivers her pin money (pocket money) for the overtime she had them do. In essence she earnt their loyalty and respect one way or another.

Yeah exactly little enfp colin had an idea and he is running with it. Within 24 hours he; * made it clear to another man they are entangled and wrecked her engagement. * talked about his feelings, kissed and compromised pen. * proposed to her, arranged it with the head of his family, introduced her as his fiance to his family and "asked" for her hand from her mother. Well he told mom he was taking her hand if she likes it or not. * already arranged their future home, is in the process of furnishings it and had his personal belongings brought over already. * told pen ILY. * took pen's v*rginity and possibly created little lord featherington. * and is arranging the wedding. All within hours. No wonder pen is stressed. Let the girl breath man. Colin definitely has never been more sure about a decision in his life. 😂 But only 24 hours ago pen was giving up on love and going to marry debling. But now her world has turned upside down and she might be pregnant with colin's baby. 😳😂

Poor pen is so overwhelmed she isn't sure its actually happening. Meanwhile colin is already going "our bridgerton name" cause to him she already is his wife. And he is planning the future in rapid speed. Not just planning it but actively putting it in motion.

He needed to prevent her getting engaged to another man. But he ended up spilling his guts in the carriage and got swapped up. But after the carriage stops he nods to himself in a "yes this is good" sorta way. He knew then and there he was all in with pen and would propose. Thats the moment he saw her as his wife and wanted a future with her. He used to be directionless and he just found his direction.

I really hate that Colin had to find out on his own, in this manner. This must add to whatever hurt/ anger/ betrayal he must be feeling. Pen had so many opportunities to tell him and she didn't. I love that Pen started LW all on her own and she truly is so clever and brilliant, but the fact that this power and notoriety has come on the backs of hurting, humiliating, betraying and stealing the dignity of so many...especially those she claims to love, like Colin....really puts a sour taste in my mouth regarding Pen's activities. Now the Queen is actively trying to find her, and she really dislikes LW so who knows what she will do to Pen and/or those that know of her true identity. Pen has really put so many people at risk with this whole endeavor. This pains me to say because I truly adore Pen and understand her because we've seen everything from her perspective, but if I were Colin I would probably leave her and never return to London, I'd probably go on another trip and never come home....hopefully Colin is a better person that I am because I truly love Colin and Pen together. I just feel like Colin has always been open and honest with her, and even after saying that 1 harsh thing last year - he immediately took responsibility for it and apologized....I just don't see Pen giving the same level of respect or accountability for Colin this season, which just breaks my heart.

Pen never lied and most of the time just repeated what was going around. Yes she hurt marina and Eloise but she was also trying to protect someone else. Like she explained herself the power did get to her head. She was only 16/17 with all that power. Plus she did reveal some secrets that needed to be said like burbruk. That gossip helped Dafne get away from such a horrible person. I know she made mistakes but at the end she made a business in a time women couldn’t do I love she didn’t give it up.

Colin asked her time and again what was wrong and she either gave lies of omission or straight up told him she was writing letters instead of telling him she was LW. Pen could have taken the blame for being LW and not have had to write about Eloise...she could have also told Colin about Marina being pregnant without revealing that in LW. Pen made bad choices. I'm not saying she should have to give up her writing, but she did make bad decisions that affected others and prioritized herself time and time again. She wanted to have her cake and eat it too...and in the end she got it, but she had to let go of the toxicity that was inherent to LW.

Hi, there! Thank you for starting this conversation. Colin could have run but he would have come back. HE LOVES PEN, she was willing to give it up, give up Whistledown, especially for him. We are human and make mistakes, Penelope was willing to take accountability. I think Colin was able to forgive her because of his own imperfections. Let's remember Colin only apologized because he was confronted by Pen, he never should have said it. especially not to look cool in front of a bunch of wannabe rakes. A whole summer passed and he didn't realize that the reason Pen wasn't writing back to him was because of what he'd said about her. I think it is easy to say what we'd all do in a position but we'd be surprised at the decisions we'd make in the event something like this did happen to us. I don't really know what I would do besides be heartbroken.

Penelope is used to not being heard. She tried to warn Colin that Marina didn't love him. She tried to convince Marina not to use him like that. Nobody listened. So she went nuclear to protect Colin. She tried to tell Eloise to stop running around the less desirable part of town. She didn't listen. By the time the Queen suspected Eloise, Penelope was sure the Queen wouldn't believe her if she confessed. Because no one in her life listens to her. So she went nuclear to protect Eloise. Colin waltzed back into town after insulting her last year with this new f*ckboy personality talking about "I miss you." She doesn't know the Colin she loves is still in there until AFTER she wrote about him. And, she basically said "Is this really him? Or is it some fake bs?" Which is exactly what his siblings said. That wasn't even going nuclear. It was petty, but not life ruining. The thing I would have changed is that I would not have had her write about their engagement until after she'd told him. But, her first instinct when something big happens is to write about it. I can see how she was overcome by her excitement. And then it was a big old whirlwind of emotion and sex where I'm sure Whistledown was the last thing on her mind. After that, the chances to tell him were fewer than it seemed. Still there, just not as many as it seemed. When he gave her the ring, her mother was in the room. In the church, Eloise had already come over and told her not to tell him. And then she gave up Lady Whistledown. She only wrote again to protect the Bridgerton family. By that time, Colin had followed her. Not saying she was right to keep this secret as long as she did, but she's not a bad person. And even the very worst things she'd written were motivated at least in part by her love for the Bridgertons. She LOVES them. Fiercely.

@jenssong117 oh I totally agree that Pen absolutely loves and adores the Bridgertons, but I don't think Pen really tried telling Colin about Marina or Eloise about the Queen. She was "trying " to tell them in a way that kept her safe. She could have straight up told Colin that Marina was pregnant, but she chose not to seemingly so that she wouldn't be seen as being part of the entrapment scheme. So she beat around the bush by bringing up the letters because that was a safer, low hanging fruit topic. If Eloise had all the information of Pen actually being LW prior to Pen writing about her, then that's a different story. Pen has issues with honesty....just because you are ignored or overlooked does not give you the right to keep the truth to yourself....especially when you are choosing to weaponize the truth to hurt others and ruin reputations. I'm sorry, I just don't see Penelope as being a faultless victim. Yes, she's been bullied and has had a hard life, but she is not blameless. Also, just because Colin came back a different person....he doesn't owe Pen anything. He said 1 harsh thing about her....he didn't know anything was wrong between then, Pen never said anything for months, so he returned confused as to why all their interactions were harsh and weird and Pen did the right thing by confronting him after the ball....what she had no business doing to writing about him to in essence get back at him and humiliate him because she felt humiliated. Colin didn't intentionally hurt Pen with his comment, but Pen intentionally hurt Colin with her LW column...now that is cruel and mean. Pen has a tendency to weaponize her anger and that's just wrong.

The way she talks about LW with the queen changed. She was protecting pen the second she figured it out. LW wasn't a thr**t to the queen. She is like LD/queen before they found their voice. And LW is protecting the bridgertons thats all. Pen has the potential to become like LD/queen with the right guidance. She can become a great force for good in the ton.

I think it will be Benedict, with his newfound sexual libertarian it would be hysterical to see him be bitten by the biggest love bug and be physically, mentally, and emotionally drawn to one person by his heart. I am sure Francesca's story will continue but will be a sub-story. I am interested to know how this story will pan out with Michael now being Michaela. Oh, yeah! Definitely enough for her to live on her own for a while. But (and now this is me taking off my feminist hat and speaking realistically) Cressida is not one to make a life for herself with that money. It would be gone before she could see a full year. She spent most of her time bullying and prancing around the ton, unlike Pen who harnessed her energies to create a fruitful business and truly realize freedom. Cressida's escape would have been temporary since she did not have the means to invest in herself. $500,000 today is the means to creating a better life for yourself if you know how to make that money work for you.

She could live very comfortably with a couple of servants for less than £500 a year back in those days. 51:10 This whole Lady Tilly subplot was a missed opportunity to drive Benedict’s story forward. I thought the whole point of him hooking up with Lady Tilly is to introduce us to Sophie. I would have blown my mind if Benedict is introduced to Sophie in passing without even realizing that he met his future wife. For example, he could be at Tilly's having tea and a maid comes in to serve. When she is done Tilly could have said "You can leave now Sophie". All the die hard Bridgerton fans would have caught that and set the internet on fire. Imagine - Lady Tilly is the evil step mother to Sophie; and Benedict was hitting that without realizing.

@@JoiLouiseReacts well not the only time. But I believe at this time Prince George was Regent and he was known for having a bit of a lavish lifestyle. Church was probably not a priority. But church was also one of those places to see and be seen. Some people still do that today. I commented on a couple of pretty dresses at church and my sister said Church is not a fashion show for your benefit. But I'm sure it is as today, some for worship, some for social reasons, and some for business reasons.

But the way she reacted to Michaela at the end shows violet was right all along. She upset violet so much she had to step out. That is what bothers me more of her story change. Wait till…. *spoiler of haven’t read book*……. John dies till you look at people like they take your breath away.
