I live in Granada, just a couple of miles outside the city (I can see the Alhambra from my bedroom balcony). The crowds you encountered - especially at the Alhambra - are a fairly new phenomenon. When I came to live here twenty years ago, you could walk in without queuing, and explore the various palaces and gardens almost on your own. Restaurants and bars in the city were half empty most of the time. There were no tour buses, and very few guided tours. For some reason, there has been an explosion of interest in Granada, and the Alhambra, in the last ten years. Incidentally - as I said in a tip below - the best time to visit the Alhambra is at night. And that's also the best time to visit the Sierra Nevada ski resort (early Nov - late May) which you can get to by bus from Granada city centre (1 hour drive).

I spent 3 days in Granada and could have stayed longer. I rented a house in the Albaicin neighborhood and it was so beautiful even though all those stairs were quite a workout. Hopefully I will go back there when I visit Spain again.

Looooove Granada. ❤ I was fortunate to have spent 2 years there in my 20’s. I go back to visit almost every summer (high school Spanish teacher). The mirador at night and sunset is even more spectacular. ❤❤

Visiting next spring! Just curious as it surprised me, did they say why you needed the passport here? Such a good thing to know. We were going to do Granada as a day trip from Seville which is our main destination but now I feel like we need more time there!

Tip 1: Best to visit the Alhambra at night. Tip2: At the side of the Alhambra (near the Alcazaba) there is a small public entrance which gives access to a fair sized section of the Alhambra, including one of the palaces and a superb garden area. So if you can't get tickets, or money is tight, just slip in through the side entrance. Tip 3: The best way to see Granada is on a scooter or by bicycle (both of which can be hired).

Very engaging video but tell us what the Spanish name for the tomato bread is!
@davidrm1102 ай бұрын
In most parts of Spain you can order “tostada de pan con tomate” (“and jamón” for more Spanish flavour or protein). In Catalonia, it goes by “Pa amb tomaca”.
@EricandSarah2 ай бұрын
@@stevewturnbull ahh yes sorry normally include that on the screen. At this place though it was just called “Especial 4 Gatos” but most places you can just ask for tostada con tomate and they’ll know what you want ☺️
