I did get to see him play, and he embodied what a team sport should really be all about. Don't be fooled into thinking he could not have scored 30 points a game if he wanted to, but the Celtics would not have won those Championships. He was the absolute true GOAT for reasons that today's players can't even comprehend. I have been blessed with being able to watch both Bill Russell and Tom Brady really show how a team sport is meant to be played.

Born in the 90s so didn't get to watch Bill play, however I remember being at a OKC Thunder game not too long after they got there and Bill Russell was at the game also. They showed him down by the court. Ever since then I say my favorite player I seen on the court in person is Bill Russell.

Which is even more valuable than the foundational aspect Russell has. Although it was obviously out of Larry's control. The Celtics were already successful and recently tasting victory. I would go for Larry still as the greatest Celtic.

All my life I have always known of the sacrifice he had to endure to play the game he loved. No one in todays NBA understands that. We go through this life not knowing how his life changed and he became a different person because of it. He helped pave the way for change and equality. The world was different and it did not accept difference. I am so happy he helped all those after him. He is the most important basketball influence of all time.. there are others but because he overcame and used his influence there can never be anyone like him. GOAT's don't average 15 points for their career on 42% shooting. Was the Ben Wallace/Rudy Gobert of his era. Those guys would've dominated and averaged 30-50 points and 25-35 rebounds back then. Same with Kwame and Javale McGee. Even the White Mamba Brian Scalabrine would've averaged 30-40 points back then, everyone would say that he was Dirk before Dirk and that he's one of the GOAT power forwards lol. That's how pathetic the 50s-60s era was. JJ Reddick is right, it was a horrific plumber era of basketball. Just painful to watch really.
