In Memory of Conrail - 20 years gone - PART TWO

20 years of Conrail’s split between Norfolk Southern and CSX is/was on June 1st, 1999. Here is part two of a 3 part series showing Conrail in Eastern & Central Massachusetts to mark the occasion. This part once again shows trains in Charlton & Spencer, MA, but visits to other locations were made, Including East Brookfield (CP 64) which marks the west end of the controlled siding, While some of this footage made it to our line of commercial programs, there is plenty seen for the first time in this presentation.
Once again, in this show, many trains are shown in their entirety.

Who U tell in? I grew up 200 feet from a CSX mainline with the Conrail TRIPLE track 2 miles or less down the road.

I grew up in Youngstown Ohio and big blue ran right against our property line. Great memories! I had a h.o. layout with my dad and mostly all Conrail on the rails. Thanks for the upload!!

Wikipedia states that Conrail bought 60 C30-7s and looks like they assigned lots of them to this region of the country. I'm assuming that's what these are. Santa Fe, Wikipedia says, bought 167 C30-7s and Burlington Northern had 242 of them. And, those F40PHs might have actually looked good had Amtrak used their Phase l scheme. From what I understand, they were good engines that could run fast. Basically, they were passenger versions of the GP40-2. They pumped out 3000 horsepower.

Great scenery. To me, it's tougher to tell the difference between GE locomotives. A U36C looks just like a C30-7, and with the exception of the trucks, all the Wide Cabs look alike. Some are longer than others. A C40-8 is 70 feet long, but an ES44 is 73 feet long. I say this because lots of GE units here.

Wonderful vids. I've seen four of them. Do you have footage of the Conrail E units when they were originally painted in Conrail Royal Sky Blue - like the rest of their freight units?
