I thought I was getting better the more I hear this song and not break down but right after 6min mark where showed the mom laughing in the car with the kids I broke. 😓This song is too relatable for me.😥

He didn’t say “why would I feel sad for someone that I never had” he said “why do I feel like I lost something that I never had”

This one is a nut punch. When you grow up around this stuff., even as a man now in his late 40's, you can be transported back to the horrible parts of your childhood. Some people want to ban stuff that triggers them. I seek it out to stare it down and take power away from it. The past is a shadow. A shadow might be dark, distorted, tall, and very scary looking, but it has no substance and you control it. It is nothing.

Truth. Well said! The shadow of a dog never bit anybody...

@@jameslmarsh I like that. I think I'll start using that line of a Shadow of a Dog. Sums things up nicely. Thanks!

our past make us who we are we get strength from adversity it can shape who we are if we don t allow it to break us

That’s a good way to look at it...if you can...but the shadow still represents so much pain and sadness. It takes a long time to get over it. I’m blessed to have had wonderful parents and I wish I knew how to comfort people who are going through this torment ❤️❤️

OMG! You do NF, also! Hes my FAVORITE artist! I listen to many different genres, but after my son came to me in 2016, when his father passed away at 47, from refusing to take care of his diabetes, stopped going to his dialysis, etc....So my son identified with this song, DEEPLY. He came to me and asked me to listen to this song with him and just when I thought we couldnt be any closer and bonded....we STRONGLY bonded even more, with NF. Raising a teenager, there is so much music out there that I did not want him hearing. I was so elated to hear all of NFs songs and to find out he doesnt curse, disrespect women, speak of drugs or violence....but he is agressive! His music became a very positive therapy for him...and he praises Christ, which is another reason I love NF. Real men openly praise Jesus and have respect! I love your videos! Thanks for reacting to NF!!!!!!!

People have all sorts of escapism, just hate how much it effects everyone when it happens. Love your guy's reactions to this in humanizing his mother and explaining that she probably really wanted to stay.

Lady got it right, addiction is usually the addicts solution to trauma or injury. It's not through selfishness, it's to stop the hurt. Gabor Mate an addiction specialist explains this.

I don’t care what your excuse is at the end of the day even if you can’t recover from your addiction your child/children deserve an explanation,... no child should have to ask their parents why with that much pain behind it, this song sends me on a rollercoaster first I’m sad then it slowly transitions to frustration then by the end I’m just angry

You hear it all the time..."My lifestyle don't affect nobody but ME!" This incredible video proves that's a lie. It affects EVERYBODY around you who cares about you. And these children, though now grown, will live with this and deal with this for the rest of their lives. And though I'm sure the mom had issues that got her started her pills, I think we need to start having at LEAST as much sympathy for the REAL victims...the children...as we do for the addict. Her struggle is over; theirs will never end.

It’s really weird remembering listening to this song as an addict and then listening to it being clean. Definitely gets the feel wheels turning but In two different ways though I know that could be hard to understand for some.
