Holly Rose It seems to be one of the hardest things to grasp. Among toxic masculinity, pink is frowned upon. But for the men who want to show that being a man has more to do with bravery than style, pink is commended. Yet to either, a trans man who wears pink is somehow still frowned upon. It took me the LONGEST time to understand, I mean, I knew it, but I wasn't really able to accept that if a man can wear and do anything, and a woman can wear and do anything, then a trans man or trans woman can do the same. I still very firmly believe that, but for the sake of my own sanity, around some people I don't do things that could be considered 'masculine' because it's just too much of a headache to explain to them. I'm a girl gamer, and I'm a lesbian, and I like shooters and puzzle games, and I like heavy metal and rock, and I do a lot of heavy lifting, and I am still a woman, because that's who I am.

Why do we only ever recognize in these films the masculine trans men and feminine trans women?? I swear if I hear one more limelight shed on "I was a tomboy and I guess that was a precursor" shit I am going to rip off my face and throw it at someone! I was never much of a tomboy. I was a whimsical fairytale inspired girly boy in a female child's body. I have always been a boy and me being a dreamer and enjoying the sensation of flowing fabrics around my body does not make me less of one. It's total crap that these films always say "there's not just one right way" yet inform everyone there is only one way because it pushes that trans men have to be overbearingly masculine and trans women have to be extravagantly feminine to have the identity respected as valid. Someone should really make a film about something other than these overly precise stereotypes

But don't you think you're being VERY presumptuous in assuming that all the people in this film are hyper masculine trans men and hyper feminine trans women? This film shows five different people whose experiences may have some similarities but are essentially all very different from each other. Some trans men are quite masculine and refer to early childhood as 'tomboyish', and some trans women are very feminine. There are plenty of people that also don't fit that, and their experiences are no less valid. What I find wild is that you are saying that this film pushes that you have to be a certain kind of 'trans' even though there's not just one right way. You have watched this film and have made complete assumptions of the people in it, made assumptions of how they identify. You say it pushes that you have to be a certain kind of trans, when nobody in this video is saying that and it's not expressed. The film looks into THEIR personal experiences and they're simply retelling parts of them. I do see your point and I do think it is great to bring about this conversation. But I do think you need to be more sensitive and aware of how you go about it because you are making big assumptions about the young people involved. At least one person in the video doesn't even state their gender or if they identify as feminine or masculine, and to be honest you're kind of looking at people and fitting them into labels that YOU think they are, without actually knowing. And yes, there should be something that looks particularly into people like feminine trans men, and masculine trans women and non-binary people and their experiences. That's important, and I'm not trying to derail that. But you're saying the people in this are 'overly precise stereotypes'. Well who is stereotyping them? Because it kinda seems like you yourself are. Some may have a more 'common narrative' than others or whatever. These are real people that opened up, not stereotypes. That itself is a bit of a shallow oversight on your end in my opinion.

Hi Stephanie! Thanks for your comment. The team are chuffed that we've inspired you to tell more LGBTI* stories. We used a Sony FS-700 camera with a Metabones EF adapter and two Canon lenses (70-200mm and 24-70mm). For audio, we used a Rode NTG3 microphone and Sony UMW-1 radio mics fed into a Zoom H6 recorder. For lighting, we used a kit of 4 x 150w Dedolights, 2 x Kinoflo Divas and a bit of sunlight. The piece was edited in FCP7 and graded in Da Vinci Resolve. Hope this helps!

Stop focussing on others acceptance, it's perception we learn as kids. Also try putting yourself in your mums shoes, I understand here maternal view off her child thats part of who she is. If it's meant to be and not just a phase or identity questioning, she'll accept it. Just be true to yourself and your reality not a false one created by perceived ideas and thoughts.
