Seems like you and I are going down this rabbit hole together. My case and first module are arriving today. Perfect timing to follow this series. Thanks, as always, for everything you do Christian!

This is amazing! I've been using Spitfire since Solo Strings and started my Eurorack setup 3 weeks ago. Love this series. Go Christian. This is great fun.

Totally agree with your philosophy on staring at screens (versus not, and the benefits thereof as regards making "music") and the ideal "place" of Eurorack inside the ecosystem of noise-makers. If I want (relative) predictability I will play a classic synth. If I want regimented sequencing and rhythm I will turn to a drum machine/groovebox, if I want overdriven harmonic mayhem guitars and pedals, but nothing does experimental/organic/psychedelic/spacey/happy accident heaven like modular.

I highly recommend Knurlies instead of screws - they tighten by hand so it's easy when you want to move things around & they have washers to avoid rackrash. Have a look at the Praxis Electronics Snake Charmer Out that gives 8 balanced outputs to a DB25 connector

These are the knurlies as mentioned above. I have a bunch and they are just so convenient. www.thonk.co.uk/shop/knurlies/ However, currently out of stock at thonk.

Wow. I have been in the modular game for 24 years and i still have not gotten anything as pricey as the Erica Fusion. Impressive start. I will follow this and see where it goes.

Been a while since I've had something new to look forward to weekly, brill stuff. I'm glad you're going slow, as it means we can all rise with the tide. If yourself, or any of the viewers have any noteworthy synth channels to check out for ace sounds, or better yet, synth education, I'm all ears.

Nice episode! Thanks for taking it slow! What will be your method of recording what you've made? And how will you integrade it into things you do with samples, and things you do with recordings?

"...and then just fucking expensive!" Haha perfectly sums up the iMac Pro! Quick question, though: Does the direction of the units matter? Take guitar pedals for example, we patch them right to left and you seem to be respecting that direction here. Can't they just all be placed wherever and you make your patches?
@BenA7186 жыл бұрын
Pat Flanigan Yes, that’s true, but it helps to plan out your skiff so it’s not just a jumble of leads going back and forth for the simplest patches.

Now that you mention voltage values between one medium and the other....in my very short experience with eurorack, I've noticed that I find myself applying high pass filtering on very low frequencies, as ULTRA low voltage seems to seep into the signal as audio (maybe from the LFO's) and distorts the waveforms in such a way that they end up hogging headroom, and just being super wonky....hope that helps somehow! =)

Ok, in what way is the Synthrotec Asshats? Would like to know that so I can stay away from them if it is some kind of zero customer aid and no refunds bullshit like 8Dio.
@BlackMan6144 жыл бұрын
Yeah... that was a pretty bizarre statement made with nothing to back it up. I've dealt with Synthrotek a few times and the modules were outstanding and they even sent me something by mistake and just told me to keep it... free. "Asshats"?? No.

Eurorack levels are actually louder than line level signals so when you're patching in audio from an external source you'd normally amplify it. The signal out would normally be attenuated. That said, I've run audio directly out from some Eurorack modules and straight into a decent mixing desk (SSL X-Desk) and while it's a hot signal the desk can handle it.

Be nice to Old Steve Harmon and Synthrotek. He is completely honest and polite to all his customers and helps people with DIY synths. From what I can see of his home life on social media, he doesn't seem to abuse women. He just made a bad joke on twitter and then wasn't immediately apologetic about it. But he did eventually make a full and honest apology. Tell you what, he has a lovely daughter who seems to build robots and stuff, so if you are feeling guilty about having supported his business, just imagine that the particular dollars wend directly into the young lady's college fund.

Christian Henson Music by the way, have you checked out modulargrid.net? It's a great way to plan out a modular system. Another great interface is Expert Sleepers ES-8 which can hookup to an audio interface via ADAT.

Modular - what larks. Endless hours of patching cables like a steroid-fuelled 1940s telephone exchange operator & great fun that is until you have that panicing-murderer, knuckle in the mouth realisation that you’ve spent more money than Melania Trump does on wardrobe binges - and amassed a veritable tower block of units that collectively sound less impressive than a vintage NHS ECG machine. I’d use the cash to do something more fulfilling like starting a bald tyre collection or creating a shovel appreciation society - just saying.
