After a long battle with locals, heritage concerns in Parramatta have been swept aside and the destruction of Willow Grove is now under way. Willow Grove is being demolished to make way for a new Powerhouse Museum. Willow Grove's loss further diminishes the heritage character of Sydney's second CBD. The Powerhouse Museum project hasn't yet managed to generate significant community support.

Mark, you draw a parallel between the current urban development in Saigon, and the current urban development in Parramatta…the common denominator between the two…Big China..?

If there is a single common element, I guess it's an excess of developer power in decision making and insufficient consideration of liveability, community, heritage, green spaces, public amenity - in both places. As you'd expect, the stage of economic development and population make these challenges greater in Saigon.
