For active TCM fans, a lot of this video is old news. This video is more for new or casual fans. That, and it's just one of my favorite obsessions and I wanted to have fun with it. Of all the videos I;ve made this one had the least scripting, making it a lot more disorganized, but also the closest to how I talk in real life. I hope you all enjoy!

I think Leatherface's problem is that he has never had a chance to think about what he wants. He kills because he feels he has to and so that is what he has done his whole life. For him, there is no alternative. That and his very troubled family situation are why I think he wouldn't leave. He doesn't enjoy what he does but it's really all he knows.
@kevinskywalker5539 Жыл бұрын
The interesting thing is that the og leatherface actor, Gunnar Hansen prepared for his acting as Leatherface from watching , and being inspired from mentally disabled children in care facilities. (Although, this wasn't in the script), his intent was to portray Leatherface as somebody intellectually stunted and living in an insane, violent family who normalized the types of violence and insanity he ended up doing as well, because he had no other frame of reference. That's why he reacts with such fear after he kills Jerry (the third victim), running from window to window and acting stressed. He literally doesn't understand why or how people are coming into his house and he's freaked out and wants them to stop, hence why he goes searching for the remaining survivors- he thinks he's protecting himself from a threat. And the characterization of leatherface works, because he's an interesting character that's not really evil, just misunderstood.

I always loved the matter of fact reality the original movie takes place in. The chainsaw isn't depicted as the end all be all of horror weapons. It's just a tool he uses to cut up the meat so they can sell it. It helps that he's able to completely terrify anyone who comes too near his house, though

i'm gonna add my thoughts on bubba giving stretch a human face because Why Not: he's giving her things that make *him* happy. a fresh, fully-intact mask is something he would probably want to receive as a gift, so he's giving it to stretch assuming that it could calm her down. also, this theory implies that he likes dancing, which- sahjlsdgsg i wanna dance with him. my favourite big boy. okay i'm done now i love this video very much

People like to identify with fictional serial killers a lot and it’s usually a far stretch but I can’t express enough that I genuinely feel like him in the sense that I’m just a big caveman-proportioned oaf with childlike bewilderment of the world who gets stressed out easy and doesn’t know how to communicate with anyone.
@tubian3232 жыл бұрын
I agree totally, I never saw Leatherface as evil. He's scary and his actions are messed up and wrong but they're done out of fear and desperation. In his mind he's protecting his home, the only home he's ever known and as you pointed out he has nowhere else to go.

I saw the texas chainsaw massacre movie last week and lately I'm getting into slashers a lot I started obsessing over bubba sm and I was like What do I even see in this man? Then I started to think more delicately about it and realized that he is SUPER CUTE and lovable, that's why I think he's so cute in the fact that he's so innocent and just trying to help his family and get their approval the only way he knows how. He is loyal and tries his best, aside from the fact that he is basically afraid of everything and is just trying to protect himself and his family from what he thinks is a threat. He has a scary big dude look but inside he's just a scared kid looking for approval and love and UGHHHH I love him. You put just the right words and explained perfectly whats to love abt this man fr😻

You know, i feel this video. I too am deeppy in love with this beefcake, he is so tragic. The only probpem i have with the films is that there is the prequel called "leatherface" where 1:he doesn't have his skin condition but his face just gets slashed/mangled, and 2: he grew up in the foster system and in an asylum, has only one more brother, who then ends up dying on their way back home. This "prequel" makes no sense at all in relation to the original films. Still love bubba tho
@SmallvillenerdTwo3 жыл бұрын
Yeah but what do you expect from a modern horror film? Espeically a "prequel" to a classic film... let's be real everyone knows Leatherface (2017) is shit.

I’m so happy that I’m not the only one who sees Leatherface for who he truly is: a large literal teddy bear of a man who just wants some love and deserves a better family 🥺🥺 Edit: Also, I completely relate with your experience growing up as “the outcast”. Being diagnosed with ADD and Asperger’s definitely takes a heavy toll on your self-confidence and social skills, so I also relate a lot with Leatherface!

The instance where he tries to hide Stretch with the skin mask is a perfect example of the concept of a "loving violence" referring to an act or acts of violence stemming from context of love. Similar to when Katniss volunteers for the Hunger Game to protect her little sister knowing it will force her to kill, everything she does in the area coming from a place of love and protectiveness.

That's the great thing about the movie, even though Leatherface is thrown on the poster as the ultimate terror, he's actually probably one of the least disturbing members of his family. The movie doesn't even really kick into gear until we see the depths of the insanity of his two brothers in the last 1/3.
