The Pamir Mountains of northern Tajikistan are sometimes known as "the roof of the world." Isolated by the rugged terrain, the Pamiri people who live there have preserved some of the Zoroastrian traditions that preceded the advent of Islam.

The Iranians themselves are descended from bronze age European tribes connected to the Andronovo horizon. Iranian is an Indo-European language that was brought to Iran from eastern European/Siberian nomadic tribes (similar to Scythians but older than that). These tribes mixed with the even more ancient peoples who had lived in Iran since the Neolithic.

@@nizar151 The Kandahar inscriptions (Edicts of King Ashoka) erected from around BC 260 were written in both Greek and Aramaic. So some of you in the region may indeed have some Greek ancestry. That said, you guys do speak an Old Eastern Iranian language, which descends from old Indo-Aryan. So your ancestors likely did migrate from proto-Indo-European homelands somewhere near the Caucasus mountains.

You are not Persians, the Persians originated from South Iran and have more Middle Eastern ancestry. Your language is not descended from Persian. Your language and culture are distinct. An italian ethnologist, Cacopardo, has studied that. There used to be the same pre-vedic indo-aryan culture in that mountainous area, the Badakhshan and Cachemire, with a religion similar to hinduism but european pagan celebrations.

@@extremistterrorist i did not said that wakhi are Greek wakhi are iranic turkic group ,,there are some groups who live along side of wakhi .....Alexander arranged susa merriage cermony which was mass wedding in which he himslef merried Tajik princess and at that time this whole region was one ,,,,at that time a big number of his soldiers were merried to local women and they all settled here and never mix alexander army only as Greek there were men from all neighboring areas ... there were men from all neighboring areas ....mecedonia,Bulgharia ,Albania ,Algeria etc some families most probably moved there all those people have indo euriian or indo European group gene ,,,,I am not talking about Wakhi but Kelasha,Bursho,Shina ,minaro ( Bropka) groups i have been researching for a while ....Aleander himslef had only son which died young so his progeney did not continued but his army men stayed here had families here....in our Pakistan side we also have Krgyz here which are also Turkic group not Greek etc
