I am a direct descendent of John Middleton - in the 1950s or 1960s the Guinness Book of Records asked the family for permission to dig him up and measure him - and the family decided to refuse. The story in the family is that he was 9'3" and he was in the Guinness Book of Records for years as " 9'3" unconfirmed ". By the way, we still don't want him exhumed.

Although he was said to be 9'3, some experts suggested that he was merely 7'9, believing his hands weren't measured accurately according to records. However his remains were supposed to be exhumed during the Victorian Era but were worked out to about 9'3. You can read this in Wikipedia

I visited HALE VILLAGE with my son 3 years ago. I was over from Vancouver visiting the place of my birth. As we walked down the lane to the lighthouse there was a plaque on the right hand side explaining it was the site of a mans house that was Captain Cooks navigator. Quimper may have been his name.

There was speculation he may have been just 7ft 9, but even so back in the 15th century, this would still be dangerous to the body and medical care would’ve been non-existant.

Im currently writing a book on human giants, an encyclopedia A-Z of pituitary cases & exhumations. Coming from the Ohio Valley its beyond me why people would doubt a 9' giantism case when exhumations here have found taller paleolithic era men and women. What I dont understand is why Wadlow gets creedance when his hands were 12" and Middleton had 17".
